Okay, I have looked at the specs repeatedly and cannot find the weights anywhere. Can someone tell me what the weight of the 11 pro is vs the pro Max?

I swore I was gonna keep my XR another year, but I’ll be damned if I’m not wrapped up in trying to decide which phone I want to get. I think just the portrait mode on the 11 would make me go from my XR because I did miss being able to get really good portrait shots of my grandkids even when they weren’t looking.

I’m just wondering if I should go for a pro, and, if so, which one. I didn’t keep my XS Max last year because it seemed to cause me to have headaches, although I’m wondering if it could’ve just been from excessive use early on, so I’m a little concerned about going pro because of the OLED.

I’ve also thought it would be fun to downsize a little, but then again, I love the size of my XR, and am afraid I’d really regret going to an 11 pro.

First world probs I know, but any suggestions, or is this for another thread?

How does this mean these people (myself included) have problems because a phone is becoming increasingly heavy? So because we criticize the fact iPhones weigh more now, we have more problems? Whats your cut off for a phone being too heavy and why is it beyond your comprehension that for a lot of people apple has already surpassed that threshold? The rationalizing is off the charts on this forum. Im not saying don't buy the phone if you want, but let's not act like the increasing weight isn't noticeable. It's very noticeable.

Same for me. I had a 7+ but have had the XS Max for a while now. I picked up my coworker's 7+ recently and completely forgot how light iPhones used to be. The weight differences are noticeable

I have reasons to believe there will be a titanium iPhone in the near future to address the heavy weight problem while maintaining the prestige status of its flagship models.

The thing is, Apple can make a 6.5" phone with a really big battery but could put it out at less than 7 ounces if they want so why are they making it so heavy? Google, Samsung and other manufactures achieve this. Is Apple going with heavier building materials because they think super heavy phones are good or is it because the higher end lower weight materials are more expensive, or what?

The Samsung S10 plus feels lighter, and it has glass. I’m with you, I like a lighter phone. I kinda miss the aluminum iphones.

Because these phones are made cheap. They fell cheap. I rather have better and heavy materials then plastic junk that feels cheap.

Seeing as I put my phone in a case as do I imagine more people than ones that carry them naked the thicker / heavier shatter proof glass on the rear I don't ever see. The stainless steal band, well I don't see that either. It's a bit of a mute point to me what those are made out of or look like.

Personally I wouldn't really mind if they changed the band back to aluminium and the rear to a nice premium plastic. Plastic also helps with phone signal strength. They'd drop a ton of weight and then could bump the battery up a bit more with a wee bit more thickness if needed for the battery. Honestly I feel like they need a bit more thickness to fix their camera lump issue. Could make lower the prices a little as well.

It won't happen of course and just my opinion.

Only a leather case will make the phone feel much lighter. I’d go with the Apple Leather or the Mujjo Leather case.

So the 6.8” Note 10 Plus, with a stylus weighs 196 grams
The 6.5” iPhone 11 Pro Max weighs 226 grams

I’m not a small dude, and that’s gonna be a pocket problem since swapping from a Note 9, 201 grams, to a Note 10 Plus at 196 grams feels significantly lighter.

You know what other things weigh 226 grams

This bicycle seat.

I rather carry a 226 gram iPhone than a bicycle seat.

I got used to the XS Max size and weight, but it never felt as comfortable as the X did to me. That still feels, to me, to be the best size and weight for a phone. I’m sure it’ll take a little getting used to it, but I’m happy to be headed back to the 5.8 size with the 11 Pro.

Yes, the X/XS/11 Pro size is more comfortable - my iPhone 7 was much more comfortable than any of those. But the extra display pixels and longer battery life alone make it worthwhile to me. I had two tests for the Max: it had to fit into my very small under-saddle bike bag, and it had to fit into the front pocket of a pair of 501s (and still allow me to sit down comfortably). It passed, so I'll stay with that size. But this is major YMMV territory.

I thought I would need the larger size, but it really only felt better to me for video. Other than that, the value just wasn’t there. It’s nice that they make multiple sizes though, options for everyone.

I upgrade to the XS from an iPhone 6 and the weight difference was noticeable. The iPhone 6 disappeared in my pocket, the XS not so much. The weight was also a big reason why I went with the XS over the Max. It has nothing to do with going to the gym, my pockets already have a lot of other crap in them (keys, wallet etc...) and a big heavy phone is not desirable.

The new phones are not only heavier but bigger in every dimension too, and thus have even thicker bezels.

I've also never really used wireless charging and its certainly not a regularly used feature for me, so I wish there was a version of the OLED iPhone without a heavy fragile glass back.

Right. Whether right or wrong, a heavier phone feels more substantial/premium.

The 6 had a flimsy feel to it, and it turned out, it was.
I agree that heavier feels more premium. I loved that about the x. I eventually got to thinking that it’s mostly the materials that make it premium, not so much the functionality vs lower priced models. Not sure if that makes sense. Similar to the stainless steel Apple Watch vs the aluminum Apple Watch. Not the same but similar since I know the premium iPhones offer features above the aluminum trim versions. Regardless, I think it’s great that there are options for different price points and premium offerings to suit different tastes.

Edit: corrections

Right. Put the thing in case and it’s fine for me the past 5+ years going strong.

Believe it or not, my reading comprehension goes up with the Max.

Right. I had one for 2 years also, caseless, and it was flat as a board when I sold it. Doesn't change the fact it was still Apple's flimsiest, most bend-prone phone and didn't feel nearly as substantial as the later, thicker, heavier models.

20g heavier, omg, how can we ever cope...
That’s a large difference on an already hefty phone. Weight is the single most annoying thing about my Max. Completely warranted. I’ll take my lesser battery life and lighter phone. An extra 20g is noticeable and bulky. Enjoy.
