I think that this is the year they’ll drop the numbering scheme like they did for the iPad.

I really hope this is the year the drop the numbers, but I doubt it.
The marketing is easier when the numbers are involved.
And like they did for macOS, after the OSX dynasty.

This “Pro” device likely won’t have ProMotion, USB-C, or 5G.
You are misapprehending what is going on. XR becomes “iPhone.” The other models become Pro (including the small one)

They need to stop with this naming. It’s getting harder and harder to understand it. Go back to the days when it was just iPhone 6 and 6+.. we got iPhone 8, 8 plus, x, xs, xs Max, Xr, 5c..

I’ve wanted to see something like this for a while. Clean up the naming. The numbers are really becoming a bit stupid, especially with the 3 year cadence we seem to be in for redesigns - 6, 6s and 7 were all essentially the same design. And now X, XS and 11 (maybe?) for the current design.
The iPhone has matured. We don’t need drastic redesigns often just like we don’t see on iMac, MacBooks and iPads.
I would take iPhone and iPhone Pro if that meant they got off the stupid numbering scheme. Also it would more closely mirror the iPad which is good.

They're all just as pro as pretty much everything Apple offers, which is not at all. The jury's out on the cheesegrater still, but that's about it. Or maybe it just means it's even thinner?
I'd like to see it go a step further:

And now all simply designated by year as they done with Mac models and, to some extent iPad models too.
Faster CPU, translucent matte back, um... bragging rights, snappier Safari, something about battery life...

Turns out he wasn’t real. Just some social experiment somebody whipped up in photoshop.
It’s only naming people, calm down. It’s very possible the now XR will be called iPhone 11 (since it’s the best seller) and the 5.8 and 6.5 OLED models will be called iPhone 11 Pro.
