Same problem for me on iOS 14 with my 11 Pro Max in the UK on Virgin Mobile. I'm not in any group chats, but it seems to happen between Android and iOS a lot. I never had this problem before iOS 14 but it's a real pain as I'm not getting verification codes or messages from those who still use SMS - sometimes I just don't get the notification, but more often I don't get the messages at all, or they don't get mine.

I think I kind of understand why this is happening if it is a temporary outage. In our country when SIM Card gets changed there is a ONE DAY moratorium for SMS to avoid SIM SWAP frauds (OTP for Banks) and the user gets notified with an alert message to his alternate communication methods and the user can raise complaints if it is not initiated by him/her. This 24 hours time frame iMessages & SMS won't work.

If you migrate from one iPhone another iPhone it is equivalent to SIM Change since both uses eSIM. This probably should not happen if someone changes the mobile with the existing physical SIM instead of eSIM.

I am not sure above is the scenario in all reported cases!

I just got my iPhone 12 pro max yesterday and I’ve have not had any of these issues. I am on AT&T and I never had the issues on my iPhone X either. I am on iOS 14.3 on my new iPhone but I was also running the same on iPhone X.
Most likely you are using physical SIM card earlier before switching to iPhone 12

I have a physical sim and am only - as far as I know - missing notifications randomly, not actual messages, which are always there when I get a follow up asking if whether I received the previous one.

this is not a hardware issue, but a software one. this has been happening since i upgraded my iphone x to ios 14 (Sprint). i will get some of the missing conversation for group messages including android users at 12:10AM and 2:38 AM. (it is a real problem for work. my group work texts had to switch to google hangouts 🤢 for the messages to be delivered reliably on time.) i thought this might have to do with my macbook set to be able to send messages to android users- but even after turning that feature off, it got better, but two messages were still delayed. i tried looking into fixes in the beginning, but every time i searched it came up with the typing lag and not this, so i thought it was my phone or the carrier.

This could be it for me. I got paged for work Thursday night, and didn't get it on my phone. Heard the alert on my iPad thankfully. I just got another page Sunday morning from work, and I got it on my phone.

Had not had this issue before last night. Missing messages in group text. iPhone 12 with latest non beta iOS.

yep, having same issue here. iPhone XS (me) missing messages from iPhone SE (2020). iMessage on for both of us, messages are being delivered without notifications. I live in the UK so it’s not a carrier specific issue. Probably a software issue. I’m running iOS 14.2, but there’s a 14.3 beta out that I’ve just seen, so will try that out and hope for the best.

This has been extremely frustrating.

I "Reset Network Settings" and the problem did not get resolved.

I "Reset All Settings" and group texts started showing up after the reboot.

HOWEVER, one person within a group (an iPhone user) will respond to the group and those messages are not showing up for me.

The issue has only appeared after I began using the iPhone 12 Pro.

I’m having this issue day one on my new iPhone 12 Pro Max in multiple group conversations. My iPhone 11 was fine on iOS 14.2. This feels like either a hardware issue or backup restore issue. I hope they have it acknowledged and fixed soon. It is very annoying and an excuse for Android friends to make fun of the iPhone.

For years I have had problems with audible alerts for text messages often not sounding. I had the problem on an iPhone 7 Plus, an XS Max, an 11 Pro Max. I've also had the problem with two different wireless providers (T-Mobile and AT&T). Apple even had me submitting some sort of logs from my iPhone for a period of weeks, but then it just dropped off with no solution. I have a 12 Pro Max now. I'll have to see if it continues. I suspect it will.

I'm not sure how that bug got through and hasn't been patched yet.

It’s upsetting. I literally just had someone message me on Facebook messenger asking why I’m not responding to their text. Didn’t even know they had texted me.

What exactly are the beta testers doing? Other than getting first crack at the latest software? My 11 Pro max started this as soon as I went to 14.2 and now my new 12 Pro Max is doing it as well. I was excited to see my 12PM came with 14.1 but I had to update to 14.2 to transfer my old phone to the new one. There’s no way the beta testers didn’t see this issue.

Hey, how about some respect, please.

I've filed hundreds of bug reports FOR YOU and everyone else over the years for iOS and macOS and tvOS. I'm not paid, and it's not exactly a dream to be using and stuck on a broken OS for three months before you get a working one on day one.

You know why I didn't report this issue? Apparently so, you said there is no way we didn't see it. Well, buddy, I didn't see it.

If you can do better join the betas and see for yourself. Otherwise appreciate the quality that is there for what it is—software is imperfect like the humans that write and test it. Stability comes with iteration.

I'm sure you'll find no better with Android. Possibly worse, since there's no single company to blame unless you buy a phone directly from Google.
