Nope, not just with SMS. As far as I can tell, all of my missing notifications to date are iMessages.I just started having this issue around 3 days ago. It seems to be only with sms users. No notification sound vibration or any indication a new text has been received. Am using an iPhone 11 Pro so this is not just a 12 issue
I had the same situation - only missing in a group where there were also Android uses. However, I then, started experiencing in a group with only iOS users as well. I had both SMS and MMS go missing. After resetting my network settings and then re-setting up the phone not from backup, (neither of which fixed it), I removed all call filtering/blocking software and deleted out my blocked contacts list. So far I haven't had issues again (it's been 3 days).I am experiencing this issue and Apple does not have a resolution to date...I have been advanced up the chain in support and the current case worker is going back and forth with engineering. The base issue seems to be any group messages that include an android user where whole streams of the conversation are missed. App,e is trying to get me to replicate while they have SW installed on my phone to monitor things but it is extremely hard to say WHEN I missed messages. Usually it’s do to replies that I have no context for or someone laughs or likes a comment I have not seen...it is a HUGE issue and even with deleting and restarting groups the issue persists...I also had a secondary issue where I would reply to a group exchange and individuals would receive it like I only sent it to them. This is less serious than missing out on entire exchanges and I have confirmed with my carrier (Verizon) with Apple on the line that they are sending the messages I’m missing...I will add more as I progress with Apple but would love to know if and when anyone resolves this issue.
With all this complaining it seems clear there is a problem and Apple hasn’t said a word. Have they?
Since the release of the new iPhone 12 models, many new iPhone owners have been running into problems with the Messages app. There are complaints from users who aren't seeing SMS messages from friends, are missing text messages in group chats, and who aren't getting notifications when text messages are incoming.

It's not clear if this is a problem that's related specifically to the iPhone 12 models or if it's a wider issue with iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2, but the majority of complaints appear to be from iPhone 12 owners.
Those who are experiencing missed SMS messages are simply not seeing some text messages that are sent from Android devices, as MacRumors reader FraXis describes:Most of the people who are missing SMS messages are not seeing them in group chats, but there are reports of some standalone messages not getting delivered. From MacRumors reader TheElmnt:There are also separate complaints of Messages being received, but no notification showing up. This is a problem that even pre-dates the iPhone 12 and iOS 14, as we've had earlier issues with it too. From MacRumors reader bmac4:
Some Verizon users have been able to solve their SMS messages by downloading the Verizon Message+ app, but it's not a complete fix for everyone and it doesn't work for all non-Verizon users. One reader also had success resetting network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings), but that has not worked for others. Toggling off 5G also does not seem to be a solution.
This is likely a problem that carriers need to address with updated firmware or that Apple needs to fix in an upcoming software update. It appears to be a problem in both iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2, and it's too soon yet to tell if iOS 14.3 is affected.
