This notification thing is getting weirder all the time. Today I used the Link2Cell feature on my home phone to make the iPhone also ring there. it is basically just a Bluetooth connection like you do in your car. After linking the iPhone 12 Pro to the home phone and testing it, everything seemed cool but then I noticed that I was not getting any phone calls or notifications at all from the iphone. I looked at it and it said that Do Not Disturb While Driving was turned on. I thought ok, that’s stupid but understandable. Maybe it can’t tell the difference between my home phone and car Bluetooth. The thing is, I went into settings and set Do Not Disturb to require a manual turn on instead of automatic but guess what.. Yep, it still goes into do not disturb mode on its own after a few minutes of being on the Lock Screen.

I wonder if this could be part of the root cause?

Could be. It hasn’t happened in a few days but at first I was getting weird pop ups telling me it just recorded the location of my parked car at odd times when I was sitting on the couch at home. It is supposed to do that when it disconnects from car Bluetooth.

Possibly a dumb question, but in cases like this, do you think Apple would ever offer compensation? Like the amount of chats and calls I’ve done with them on this issue, they should totally send me a free accessory or something.

One conversation I had with a supervisor indicated that it was a possibility. I've wasted over seven hours speaking to them at this point and missed some additional work because of the issue.

Same here. Like I'm not a douche that tries to get free stuff out of anything, but this is the one issue that has actually affected my daily life both in time spent and my close ones wondering why the heck I'm not responding to their texts. Add the potential safety issue on top of that.

I've been missing tons of messages lately due to no notification or red badge on the app. ios 14.2.1 , iPhone 12.

Between this and the lagging keyboard the message app is such a steaming pile. and the fact the keyboard lag is STILL an issue after 3 months is beyond pathetic. Messages is the most used app to be this damn terrible especially since I just dropped 800 on a new phone.

FIX IT APPLE

100% that's what's going on. I even once saw the badge appear for a split second and then disappear in the app library.
Cool, so the community figured out what apple's engineers get paid 100+k per year to do.

Thats what I'm noticing too. Its when the reply comes very quickly and Ive seen the red badge appear and quickly disappear as well. The keyboard lag seems to be on the similar track when going in and out of the app quickly to respond , constant lag.

In addition to overall missing messages, my odd situation was I was expecting a message (sent an app link to myself from a website). The new message red badge showed up on my iPhone but when I went into the message app, there was no new message. The badge also showed up on my iPad and MBA but on those devices, the message was there. As soon as I read the message on one of the other devices, the badge on my phone went away. It's as if the phone recognized everything about the message coming in short of allowing me to see it. After working with both Apple and then Verizon support, Verizon had me restart my phone after they tinkered with some settings. After the restart, messages came through including the original missing one showed in my history (as read).

I was talking to an Apple Senior Advisor yesterday on another matter and asked him about the message issues.

His answer? "Oh really, I haven't head of that".
Ugh. Thankfully some have. My Sr Advisor told me he’s received multiple calls. I do wonder sometimes if they’re trained to downplay it to avoid bad press.

Theres no way they cant know. Just like the keyboard lag....literally every person I talked to with an iPhone on ios 14 has the issue. They themselves are no doubt having the issue.

It always boggles my mind how sometimes silly stuff like this never gets fixed until enough people complain.

Maybe Tim Cook will pay attention in a couple years when the "customer sat" numbers take a hit. Then in meeting after meeting they will try to figure it out until one brave soul raises their hand and says "remember with iOS 14 we pretty much busted the most used app on our platform, so that might have something to do with it , Tim"

As much as I know its cliche to bring it up, Steve would have thrown his phone at a wall screaming in a meeting if these stupid issues were happening for this long.

One thing is for sure, Apple's QA, QC....testing.....whatever you want to call it has taken a big hit. Last year iOS 13 rollout was a massive disaster, riddled with bugs, bricking devices including homepods. This year its a busted messages app. Wonder what iOS 15's snafu will be.

Sorry if this may have already been mentioned, but I've discovered that if I turn bluetooth off, I no longer have the issue of messages not notifying me on the lock screen. If I turn bluetooth back on, I once again will not be notified.

Using the website opentextingonline.com -- No message from this site has ever given me a notification on the lock screen before. But with bluetooth turned off, I get the notification every single time.

I am using an iphone 12 with 14.2.1 on T-Mobile.

That’s really interesting! Unfortunately I use Bluetooth for 4 different devices in my home. LOL!

Yes I understand. I like most, rely on bluetooth in my car and nothing else so I really could create an automation to automatically turn on and off when leaving and returning to my house. Not sure it might or might not work correctly though as my car is sitting on the property and it might not turn bluetooth on when I get into my car.

But it's something to look at and my point of posting was in hoping that someone from Apple might see it.

Just some more info as someone elsewhere asked me if something about imessage may be having an affect:

- The website opentextingonline.com sends SMS and MMS, not imessage. - Bluetooth on and I do not get the lock screen notification. Bluetooth off and I get it 100% of the time
- Banks using 2 factor authentication - Bluetooth on and I do not get the lock screen notification. Bluetooth off and I get it 100% of the time.

- Send myself a message from an Android phone - Bluetooth on OR off, I get the notification 100% of the time.
- Messages from friends in a group message, Bluetooth on OR off, I get the notification 100% of the time. Some use iphones with imessage, some use Androids.
- Messages to me from my wife's iphone 11 pro max - Bluetooth on or off, I get the notification 100% of the time.
- Interestingly she will not get a lock screen notification from opentextingonline.com on her 11 pro max either. She is using ios 14.2, I am using 14.2.1

I always seem to get notifications if the phone is unlocked regardless of where they are coming from.

I just got 2 new iPhone 12 Pros. When I try to log into Social Security site, it requires sending me a message. Won't come through, yet when my wife attempts logging into her account, it comes through on her new phone. When I send test messages to friends , they seem to get them and I get messages back. So seems like something random. Interestingly, I didn't get the message from Social Security on my old phone either nor my iPad. So it makes me think it has something to do with 14.2. I just updated to 14.2.1 which said something about addressing MMS messages not being received but that didn't do anything either. I was requesting the code from my desktop so wondering if that was the reason I went to the website on my new phone and requested the code - still no luck. So I'm open to any suggestions! Would be nice to get into my social security account.

Have you tried it with bluetooth off?

I am seeing lots of bluetooth issues. I am not getting any notifications whatsoever when I am in my car (connected via bluetooth). Not sure if all of this has more to do with bluetooth or the idiotic Do Not Disturb crap (Which I have set to off and set to activate manually.

This really needs to be fixed. I didn't just go and spend money on a phone that doesn't do some of the basic things that I have relied on for years.

Turning Bluetooth off in settings doesn't do anything for me. Worse yet, almost all two factor messages do not come through. I'm locked out of many accounts at this point.

Same here, just gave it a shot since I'm locked out of 2FA as well. It's a real bummer. 😖

Interesting. I had been getting notifications fine but then tried the opentexting site juts to see how the site worked :) and didn't get notifications with bluetooth on. Turned BT off and still didn't get the notification.
