This problem goes back to at least iOS 13 and iphone 11.
It goes back further than that. iOS 11 and iPhone X. This was and is still my first iPhone. I still have issues with texting and Android users. Very annoying! Every iOS version has had the issue. And with different cell carriers to boot.

Ugh! My wife and I are having group SMS issue for last 2 months. I have been in touch with t-mobile engineers and they couldn’t figure out the issue. I called Apple and was told it was t-mobile. I finally got fed up and left tmobile. We now have Verizon, everything worked great for 4 days and now we are in the same issue. I am currently using iPhone 12pro and prior to this I had iPhone 11pro. Really hoping to see a fix very quickly.

I've been having the issue of not getting notifications. I wonder if there's some "phantom device" getting the notification, therefore my phone/watch don't show it.

I just upgraded to the iPhone 12 Pro. I used to have the iPhone 11 XS Max. I have Verizon and use wifi calling at home. For the past year of living in my current place, everything was fine. Phone calls and SMS messages came in with no issue.

I no longer get phone calls or text messages easily. If someone calls, they get sent straight to voicemail, and eventually I see the voicemail. SMS messages don't come in, or are very delayed. I had a work group message that went on for over ten minutes, but all of the messages came in at once with the same time stamp.

When a website has 2 factor authentication via text message, I don't get it messaged. My work around when I know a 2 factor authentication was sent is is to toggle cellular data (or airplane mode). As soon as it re-connects to the network, the message comes through.

Given that my phone calls are also affected, I wonder if this is a different issue for me. But my SMS messages for sure. It has made working from home where I need to use my personal number, a lot more difficult. Thinking about getting a dumb phone that'll just work for the phone and SMS part.

Been missing notifications on my 11PM since 14.2. Thought I was going crazy. I’m on Verizon for what it’s worth.

Could this be related to iPad and iCloud being dumb? I’ve lost count of the number of times I get SMS or iMessages go directly to iPad and the notification completely eludes my Apple Watch and iPhone. Not unique to my 12 Pro though. It’s been happening since forever on my devices. It was even worse when I was using Messages app on Mac so had to sign out of that.

Wish I saw this an hour ago. Trying to verify my account with my bank for the app and not getting the messages. Verizon iPhone 12 Pro Max.

+1 on this one. iPhone 12...group chat...mix of iOS and Android in group...every once in while I see someone reacting to a text I’d never seen. While we’re talking messages, doesn’t recognize when I have MMS enabled. Had to the old; turn off/turn on.

I have had this same issue after upgrading to my iPhone 12 from an iPhone 8 Plus. My wife is also experiencing it on her iPhone 12 Pro. Sometimes on group messages with Android users we are both on I would get a message and she wouldn’t and sometimes she would get a message and I wouldn’t. This is happening even when we are sitting right next to each other. We have Verizon as our carrier. I have reported the issue to Apple per the link posted in an earlier post.

This exact problem occurred today. I have 12Pro and my wife an 11Pro. Our friend with an android phone sent us a joint message today. My wife received it and I didn’t.

All my friends with 12s are having this issue. To test it yourself get in a group chat with at least one Android and have them rapidly send messages counting. I had my brother count from 1-6 and I didn’t get a single one.

I’m surprised it took this long to make it on MacRumors. Multiple threads on Apple Discussion Board and Reddit. Took four days getting mine running. Apple was perplexed I could not get a 2FA and dialed into my phone and verified settings. Eventually went to Apple engineers and was told in some cases they need to address it and others it’s the carrier. Mine was a carrier issue and after swapping SIM cards out of all three new phones (2 iPhone 12 and 1 Pro). I had to argue with ATA&T to get a SIM swapped as they did not believe they had an issue. A lot of verifications codes can be missed and a lot of people feel it killed the release experience. I agree that it did. Who wants a $1000 and you have to spend 4 days to get it to receive SMS? Epic fail somewhere. Remember this was in the threads the day it was released so this is basically gone on for a month and now there is enough traction to be reported. I’m actually surprised Reddit was way ahead of the curve on this (actually I am not surprised to be honest). Hope everyone gets their phones operating correctly.

I sent a message to a group of iPhones and included an android phone. Messages either were received much later or not at all. When I sent a message only to android the message was received right away, similarly a message to just an iPhone group was immediate. So, I don’t mix iOS and android. Very inconvenient. I first noticed this with iOS 13 in March 2020.

Since the release of the new iPhone 12 models, many new iPhone owners have been running into problems with the Messages app. There are complaints from users who aren't seeing SMS messages from friends, are missing text messages in group chats, and who aren't getting notifications when text messages are incoming.

It's not clear if this is a problem that's related specifically to the iPhone 12 models or if it's a wider issue with iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2, but the majority of complaints appear to be from iPhone 12 owners.

Those who are experiencing missed SMS messages are simply not seeing some text messages that are sent from Android devices, as MacRumors reader FraXis describes:Most of the people who are missing SMS messages are not seeing them in group chats, but there are reports of some standalone messages not getting delivered. From MacRumors reader TheElmnt:There are also separate complaints of Messages being received, but no notification showing up. This is a problem that even pre-dates the iPhone 12 and iOS 14, as we've had earlier issues with it too. From MacRumors reader bmac4:
Some Verizon users have been able to solve their SMS messages by downloading the Verizon Message+ app, but it's not a complete fix for everyone and it doesn't work for all non-Verizon users. One reader also had success resetting network settings (Settings > General > Reset > Reset Network Settings), but that has not worked for others. Toggling off 5G also does not seem to be a solution.

This is likely a problem that carriers need to address with updated firmware or that Apple needs to fix in an upcoming software update. It appears to be a problem in both iOS 14.1 and iOS 14.2, and it's too soon yet to tell if iOS 14.3 is affected.

This exact thing is happening to me on iPhone 12 pro. SMS just don’t show up in group chats.

Me too! Talking to a buddy of mine right now and I’m not getting any alerts from his sms

Same problems here.

iPhone 12 Pro on T-Mobile— missing tons of group texts from Android users.

On my watch non-iMessage notifications don’t always give an alert/vibration ever since iOS 13/Watch OS 6.

Edit: Also since iOS 12: off and on I would miss many android texts in group chats, only for all of them to come at once hours later.

I guess you now know it was not a T-Mobile issue!
