I couldn’t receive a message with a code from my bank and ended up not being able to settle on my first home loan because of this.. and I was blaming the banks system too 🤦‍♂️ Super stressful!
Glad I know it’s an issue now, resolved by getting them to send it to my partners phone (iPhone 11) in the end but we were a day late and had to pay a penalty..
I would send the penalty bill to Apple.

-Every cellular Apple Watch owner

I'm still so upset about this, and I know this article is about the phone but I wonder if it's related. I bought a cellular capable Series 6 with the sole intention of being able to leave my phone at home 90% of the time, and still receive calls and texts. I received calls and iMessages no problem, but never any SMS messages from those not using iPhones. I'd spend a whole day out with just the watch, then once home in range of the phone, the watch would blow up with SMS from friends with Android phones. Neither Apple, nor Verizon could make heads or tails of it, but this article makes me wonder if it's on Apple's end. I had to return it after all.

Oh, and the email app on the watch NEVER worked - in, or out of range of the phone - on neither WiFi or LTE.

Okay, rant over - happy Friday!

I experienced two similar issues. One where my text wasn't sent to an Android user and another where I thought my buddy intentionally did not answer my question while in reality he didn't even see it. We were both shocked and confused as this never ever happens. He recently upgraded his phone, it could be the transition to a new device, however, it was weird, this never happens with WhatsApp.

Myself and a friend in the same group chat using SMS with android users have both been having this problem.

I've been having all kinds of problems with messages lately in that I sometimes don't receive the banner notification. When I do receive it, the text link is plain text. And lately I've noticed that if I get a message from someone in my contacts, Messages will try to flag it as junk and insist that the sender isn't in my contacts.

It's a real mess, and I've been on the phone with apple about it multiple times. So, I don't think it's specifically an iPhone 12 thing, but I do wonder if it's Verizon thing and an iOS 14 thing.

I feel like this issue has been around in some form for a while.

I’ve experienced this with my iPhone 11, iOS 14.2, AT&T. At first it was just my Apple Watch not alerting me for messages. I unpaired that and set it up as new but now the issue is happening on my phone. Not very frequently, maybe 1 out of 100 messages. Still annoying though.

I've definitely been having this problem - Verizon/iPhone 12 - primarily group chats. rebooting often seems to help, but not always. Last week issue was I got initial message from Android phone in group chat, but only iPhone messages after that. Yesterday had issue where 3 of us in group chat, 2 of us iPhone, 1 Android. Android message received to both my phone and iPhone 11. I responded, the iPhone 11 didn't receive messages, but Android did. But then no messages seemed to be coming or going. rebooted my iphone 12, and all messages seemed to come in one big burst then seemed to work again after that for rest of conversation. Sure hope between carriers and Apple they don't just point fingers and just get it solved.

I simultaneously lost all push notifications on both my iPhone 11 Pro and 2018 12.9” iPad Pro on the final day before iOS 14.2 released. Toggled settings and restarted both devices to no avail, but the 14.2 update restored them the next day on both deceives.

I was wondering if it was just me! iPhone 12 Pro on T-Mobile. I've absolutely been missing messages. Mostly in group chats from what I can tell.

I saw it happen today on my iPhone 12 Pro Max. I went into Messages in Settings, and re-enabled my phone number for "can receive messages at". Now it works.

I solved the issue on my 12 Pro by downloading the Verizon Message+ app and then deleting all the text off their server. Since then, no missed texts for the last 6 days.

Not sure if this is related or just my own stupidity, but when I texted a friend from my new phone it didn’t revert to their usual phone number — the one I’d labeled as “mobile” — instead it sent to one of their old phone numbers which I’d custom labeled as “old phone.” Needless to say that was awkward! But also annoyingly preventable if iOS had just bothered to remember what their most recent number was, rather than choosing a random one from the Contacts card.

Personally....I've been on Verizon's community board and Verizon reddit griping at them.....didn't know my ire should have been directed at Apple. 😆
Yeah it started right after 14.2 B2. Happens with both SMS and iMessages but only on my iPhone. My iPad (on 13.5) and Mac (10.14.6) are unaffected UNLESS the last device I used was my iPhone. For some reason, I guess my iPhone keeps thinking I'm reading them because the badge will show for, like, a second before disappearing like I 'read' the message when I never even got a notification.

Same situation here - done all the resetting and troubleshooting and restoring defaults and nothing has helped. Not receiving huge chunks of SMS/MMS messages within group threads, as well as texts for 2 Step verification. This is an f'in mess.

Affecting my iPhone 12 on AT&T - I am unable to log into some two factor accounts since I do not get SMS! I am, however, getting SMS messages from AT&T.

I'd be curious if this problem was fixed if they turned off iMessage. I had this problem last year (I still had an iPhone6 running maybe iOS12), and found that permanently turning off iMessage fixed it.

I’m on T-Mobile and I only have the glitch with certain contacts. I reset my phone twice, turned off iMessage and FT and then back on. Still issues. I’m on 14.1 and was about to upgrade to 14.2.

Actually had this issue on my iphone 11 before. Co worker with an android phone I never get notications from. Same thing is happing on my Iphone 12 pro max today as well.
I had this problem with my iPhone 6 last year running iOS 12 or 13. I permanently turned off iMessage and it fixed it.

I've been reading about that this is happening to lots of people in the US. As WhatsApp is more popular in Germany I didn't worry too much about it. Until last week, when I was chatting via iMessage and I received all of the messages, but didn't get any notifications. Phone was definitely on ring, also my Apple Watch didn't give me the usual vibration when receiving new messages via iMessage - pretty annoying.

BTW: Anyone else experiencing problems with Outlook on the new iPhone 12? Usually I get push notification as soon as I receive an email. Now I have to check manually for outlook to update my inbox. Deleted the app, reinstalled and configured all of my accounts newly...didn't help. Now the push notifications just pop up randomly.

I had that issue, go to settings, the alerts, tones and vibrations have been turned off.
Notifications for the alerts
Sounds and haptics for the noise and vibration
