I got a Saddle Brown case for my 12 Pro, and a red leather case for my wife’s incoming 12 mini. Both were available for store pickup today at my local Apple Store.
I had my previous iPhone (an iPhone 6) for 6 years; during that time, I had two Apple leather cases. Each lasted 3 years, till the bottom edge started to flake at the corners of the bottom cutout.
So far, the new 12 Pro leather case is really nice. Good quality, leather all around, and metal buttons that feel as good as those on the phone itself. My old iPhone case just had bumps in the leather for buttons—this is much better.
I like how the case completely covers the bottom. It feels good, and softens up the edge (which is good if you use your pinky finger as a shelf). There’s a nice lip that should protect the screen. It feels fine to swipe up from the bottom edge to go home, though it’s not as easy a gesture as it was without a case. Shouldn’t be an issue though.
I used the phone without a case for the last 2 weeks. It was nice, and the body of the phone is easy to grip—but with that said, I am relieved to have my $1000 glass slab in a case.
Oh—and I didn’t notice any difference putting the case on, in terms of MagSafe. It felt like putting any other case on—it didn’t snap or anything. I don’t have any MagSafe accessories (though I am eyeing the wallet).
Even if I get the MagSafe charger, I have no concerns about the circles. These cases develop a patina and darken significantly. The ring might be visible initially, but as the rest of the case darkens over time, it eventually would be less and less visible.
Edit: if anyone is curious about the darkening, here is my 3-year old Saddle Brown case next to my new Saddle Brown case. You probably won’t see the ring in a year or two.
