Everyone keeps saying "iPhone 12", when it's almost certain to be "iPhone 11S".

That hurts my brain.
They went from 7 to 8 when they went from aluminum to aluminum and glass (and let's face it the 8 could've easily been the 7s). They are rumored to introduce new screen sizes and new designs (flat sides) so it will definitely be marketed as a new series (12) rather than an S series (11S).

6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max
6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro
6.1-inch iPhone 12 Max
5.4-inch iPhone 12

I doubt Apple will do "Max" on two different sizes, especially when there is another 6.1" phone that is not labeled as "Max". I think it's more likely that the 5.4" phone gets labeled with something like "Mini" making 6.1" phones considered the "regular" size without any modifier.

Seeing as the sizes and 5G are the main new features, I'm starting to think they'll stick with the current design.

how about 5g, 16 gig of ram and a crazy camera set up?

The camera setup might be just as ridiculous. Samsung's vaunted 108-megapixel camera would be the centerpiece, but also just he start. You'd also get a 48MP secondary camera with 10X optical zoom and a 12-megapixel ultra-wide cam. While you probably wouldn't shoot at full resolution with those first two cameras (their pixels are likely to be combined for the sake of low-light shots), image detail might be a non-issue in the right circumstances.

Only the "Ultra" version is getting that cool 108mp camera. And it sounds like 120hz won't be usable on the top resolution either. Samsung just can't get out of their own way lately

If the ram is increased, it will most likely be offered on the Pro models.

128GB as the base storage would be a better idea.
I would like to see this too but Apple would rather make us pay extra for it.

I’m so over these notches. All they care about is the camera these days.
So true and not much else.

I don't understand Apple's desire to go cheap on RAM. I give Apple credit for improving iOS/iPadOS with new features and options while making things perform fairly smoothly, but it's obvious that it all came at the cost of RAM management. App refreshing is a seriously bad issue to deal with for heavy users. A Pro device in 2020 should come with no less than 8GB.

Even if 6GB were enough for today's standard, the phone will not be futureproof. RAM is not THAT expensive, stop with these greedy practices, Apple.
Unfortunately that it is all about

I don’t understand why we can’t have a premium 5.4 version. Why is the world in love adult toy sized phones?

:D Because they literally stare at them for hours on end and I bet there's at least one person in the world who actually does use their XS Max as an 'adult toy'.

I probably will be waiting to upgrade until there's a 2nd-generation 5G iPhone released in autumn 2021 -- if not one or two generations after that. I would love a better camera/triple cam setup, but my iPhone X is still working fine. The battery is at 91% capacity, charges really fast with fast-charging, and I can always get the battery replaced to get another few years out of it, assuming I don't break the thing (yes, I use a case!)

But despite all the above -- WHY WHY WHY do we need bigger and bigger phones! Unless they can keep the 5.1-inch screen models to the overall form factor of the iPhone X (etc.), or BARELY bigger, well, I won't be thrilled. I really don't enjoy having to use my pinky finger to prop up my iPhone while holding it. Not exactly ergonomic...

Devs have to develop for the lowest specs to ensure it can reach the largest possible audience (and make that $), so 6 gig of ram is useless if there is still a new alternative model with 4 gig of ram.

Gah I want the 5.4" model to be high-end. I like having the three cameras and want a little bit smaller device.

6GB of RAM is needed, only for the three camera models. When I use them it sometimes closes out other apps in the background prematurely. This is clearly why the three camera Pro models are the only ones getting the spec bump. That and maybe they are going to do even more advanced processing between the three cameras.

Now, if they put 8GB of RAM into the new iPad Pro, that would be difficult to resist. I just got a new job and the money is already burning a hole in my pocket. That and I wonder if more RAM would help with large file transfers that still crap out for me all the time.

Apple plans to release one 5.4-inch, one 6.7-inch, and two 6.1-inch iPhone models in 2020, according to UBS analysts Timothy Arcuri and Munjal Shah. While the analysts expect all four iPhones to be equipped with OLED displays, they believe other features like camera specifications and RAM will vary by model.

In a research note shared with MacRumors, the analysts provided an overview of the four iPhones they expect in 2020:
  • 6.7-inch iPhone: triple-lens rear camera with 3D sensing and 6GB of RAM
  • 6.1-inch iPhone: triple-lens rear camera with 3D sensing and 6GB of RAM
  • 6.1-inch iPhone: dual-lens rear camera and 4GB of RAM
  • 5.4-inch iPhone: dual-lens rear camera and 4GB of RAM
The camera specifications line up with those shared by reputable analyst Ming-Chi Kuo last month, while 6GB of RAM in the two highest end models lines up with a prediction shared by Barclays analysts in November.

5G is expected to be a key feature of high-end iPhones in 2020. UBS conducted a survey of over 9,000 consumers across the United States, Germany, Japan, China, and the United Kingdom and found that 22 percent of respondents view 5G support as something that is worth upgrading smartphones for.

On other news, the Samsung Galaxy S20 Plus will be avaiaible with 16GB of RAM.

I phone 12 x max pro with 6 gig of ram this is gonna be great. Take my money Apple.

We're going to need all that RAM to compensate for the radiation hit 5G is going to take on our balls and uterus.

My 7 is still hanging on but a 5.4 inch iPhone 12 4GB RAM ($699 64GB/$749 128GB) is a day one purchase for me.

There goes my dream of a smaller high end phone. No point of going from a XS to that 5.4 inches... Worse, if I want to get all specs I’ll again have to get a bigger phone.
Well I guess this is it for me, no more high end phones. I know, I’m in the minority.

People with little hands are making all the decisions these days. Ironic isn't it?

This is a stupid and mean-spirited comment, but I'll ignore that aspect of it. A 5.8 inch phone is already big enough to where the vast majority of people will have to fumble the phone around in their hand to reach all of the screen with their thumb. The gesture to pull the screen down isn't reliable, and even if it worked perfectly every single time, that's still way slower then just being able to reach the top of a smaller-screened phone. Smaller phones just make for a faster, better user experience because you can eliminate all the little time you spend handling a big phone.

If you ask me, it's weird that a "Pro" phone would sacrifice input efficiency and ease of use for benefits related to media consumption. Totally backwards honestly. Most heavy users I know are the ones who don't rely on their phones for everything and have other devices that they prefer to watch content on.

Also look at every other post in this thread, don't act like this isn't a common complaint. Furthermore, most people on here are high-end users!

Samsung Galaxy S20 is rumored to offer up to 16GB of RAM. Apple just had to do something about RAM in iPhones. And to those claiming that iOS is more efficient, the extra RAM is not going to be used by OS. It will be used by the app(s). And the apps that use a lot of memory use it mostly for data (as opposed to code). In this situation memory usage will roughly be identical for all OSes.

Not to be "that guy", but Samsung phones had 6gb of ram like 4 years ago.
Giving you the attention you wanted to attract with this statement!

The notch doesn't bother me. Not one bit. I never even notice it.

With the exception of 5G, I don't see a compelling upgrade here. The whole camera thing is WAY over hyped. What you shooting on that thing, an IMAX production of Apollo 11 or something? It's for taking cat pictures and pictures of pretty sunsets, and selfies.

I'll be sticking with my Xr for a while. Especially since they dropped the blue colored model (which I really like the color of) and no real reason to switch up.

My wife has an iPhone 8, and it's time for her to grab a new one. Battery is kaput and it's showing it's age.

If the 5G is phenomenal at my office, I may jump on it. But if the coverage is as bad as the 4G with VZW, OR they finally put WiFi in this dump, I'll ride what I got for a while.
I don't notice the notch in every day use either, but I'll also be glad when it's gone.

People are going with the assumption that the big changes coming to the 2020 phone is likely to cause a jump in Apple's naming scheme. Just like how the iPhone 8 and iPhone X skipped the 7S moniker.

Samsung has a phone due out called the S20
It comes with a whopping 16GB of RAM
and 108 MP camera

This is where I would like to see the iPhone headed
16 to 32 GB of RAM
A docking station like DEX for Samsung phones so you can hook it up to a monitor and use your phone as a personal computer. the docking station should support 4k 5k HDMI video out as well as USB C Ports

Given that there seems to be 5 new models coming in 2020, its going to be a fun season for iPhone rumours.

I guess the most likely by the end of the year will be:

iPhone SE
iPhone 12 (5.4” and 6.1”)
iPhone 12 Pro (6.1” and 6.7”)

And I guess the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro will hang around? I wonder what will happen to the whole lineup and naming come September.

Most likely they’ll discontinue the 11 Pro, because it would be confusing to have a premium phone from last year (11 Pro) be better in some ways than a lower-end phone (12) from this year. Same thing that they did with the X and the XS

The sizes of the iPhone X, iPhone XS and iPhone 11 Pro are perfect for me. My sister has the iPhone 11 and I have the iPhone XS from last year and I notice the inconvenience when I hold her iPhone in my hand. If Apple increases the size I won't buy it just like I didn't change my MacBook Pro since 2012. Give me something really Pro and not too expensive and I will buy it.
