At the end of the day it matters not what an Android phone needs, even though we all know its more than iOS, but what iOS needs. Apple should supply the RAM in their phones based on what gives the best and most fluid experience to the vast majority of their customers… for most of the lifespan of the device. So if they're giving 5 years of iOS support then their devices should have sufficient RAM for say 4 years of that. The question is whether Apple is pushing RAM down to be yet another one of those not obvious things that compelled people to upgrade earlier.

Like varying storage sizes there's no reason why they cannot offer the same for RAM and/or scale up with the model.

FWIW, my Samsung Galaxy S10 with 8GB RAM starts up and idles requiring 3.2-3.5GB RAM… which is pretty high in my book. Irrespective of uptime though I don't ever see it consuming more than 5GB. For others that may be more due to different app usage and the fact that I close all my apps once a week or so. There's more than plenty of legroom moving forward especially given the fact that I highly doubt I'll be offered Android 13/14 let alone even getting Android 12 so what RAM I have today will in fact last the life of the phone. Also, being able to close all apps with the press of one button, unlike the one by one that's needed by iOS, does mean that recapturing a swathe of RAM is significantly easier.

If Apple wants to say to everyone that they give the best and longest device lifetime experience then they should offer the RAM that goes along with that whatever that may be.

Don't wanna see this notch anymore with iPhone 12.

The notch is the single most obnoxious design choice that smartphone manufacturers have made for any device, and I'm disappointed that everyone followed Apple's choice. I would really appreciate it if they'd stop interrupting the screen space.

6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max

5.4-inch iPhone 12
Probably, though it is disappointing that "Pro" means "big".

Seems like the 11 is the last mainline iPhone with LDC (along with the smaller screen 8SE / 9 that is coming out in a couple of months). Rumor is everything is going OLED otherwise, plan accordingly.
I wonder what happened with MicroLED. Apple invested a bunch of money in MicroLED patents, with nothing to show for it.

I don’t understand why we can’t have a premium 5.4 version. Why is the world in love adult toy sized phones?
Because premium hardware simply won't fit into 5.4" enclosure? Probably that is why no other android manufacturer releasing small premium phone.

App will still restart after 30 seconds when running behind the scenes. I hate that part of iOS. Why can't they just page it to a file. I have plenty of space.

Big chins, foreheads, pop-up cameras and off-center holes are just as bad if not worse.

And Samsung was awarded the RAM trophy to go along with their fire safety award.
Lol. Are you going for the “super old joke award?” That’s going on 4 years now, nearly half of the lifespan of the phone line. What’s next, car jokes from the 70s?

Because the only time since the 3GS that they've stepped away from the #, #s, #+1, #+1s... naming scheme is with the iPhone X (complete with uncharacteristic roman numeral, and note that they didn't continue that with the XI, they went back to Arabic numerals) to make a big point about it being the iPhone's tenth anniversary, and set out in a massively different direction (edge-to-edge OLED screen, FaceID, etc.). This year's changes sound solid, but not momentously different like the X.
Bezel to Bezel screen. No phone is beer free.

Up to is quite funny :p while others are now going to feature up to 16GB of RAM and are already featuring up to 12GB of RAM Apple plans to meet them half way. More RAM and a proper USB-C with proper sync speeds to sync with the MacBook Pro laptops that comes Thunderbolt 3 40Gbps shows how far behind the slow current lightning ports are. More RAM and faster sync speeds from a better port is what we really need. If it also wants to catch up with the rest of the Chinese manufacturers that make smartphones it should offer dual login options like they do. Apple only offers this now on MacBook Computers but not smartphones which it really should along with option to download two apps for each sim number. Chinese been doing Thai for quite some time now on their smartphones while Apple is many years behind in this feature.

Given that there seems to be 5 new models coming in 2020, its going to be a fun season for iPhone rumours.

I guess the most likely by the end of the year will be:

iPhone SE
iPhone 12 (5.4” and 6.1”)
iPhone 12 Pro (6.1” and 6.7”)

And I guess the iPhone 11 and 11 Pro will hang around? I wonder what will happen to the whole lineup and naming come September.
And most likely you will need to fork out over $1500 to get the highest end iPhone model to qualify for 6GB of RAM which is very cheap to manufacture now

We’re getting dangerously close to the memory capacities of the phone and the high end 13” laptop being identical.

Come on, Apple. Make us a beefier laptop already!

Samsung has a phone due out called the S20
It comes with a whopping 16GB of RAM

and 108 MP camera

This is where I would like to see the iPhone headed
16 to 32 GB of RAM
A docking station like DEX for Samsung phones so you can hook it up to a monitor and use your phone as a personal computer. the docking station should support 4k 5k HDMI video out as well as USB C Ports

Bolded:

Doesn’t Samsung increase the RAM amount almost every single year? Does that really amount to anything? Considering that androids optimization typically isn’t nearly as stable as iOS is. So my point is, how does all this additional Ram arguments translate to anything against iOS, when the platform (Android) itself doesn’t have the strongest stability.

I don’t understand why we can’t have a premium 5.4 version. Why is the world in love with adult-toy sized phones?

Has Kuo, who I believe was the first to bring up the 5.4 inch, actually corroborated this rumor of the 5.4-inch not being a Pro device?

4G of RAM for any model of iPhone 12 is ridiculously not enough and previous model stuck with 4G RAM for numerous years already. 6GB of RAM is the way to go for all iPhone 12 without forcing the customer to buy the larger model for higher RAM.

Devs have to develop for the lowest specs to ensure it can reach the largest possible audience (and make that $), so 6 gig of ram is useless if there is still a new alternative model with 4 gig of ram.
If you only use that one app, then yes. But you can use that app and switch to more apps without reloading. That’s more than enough of a benefit. Not deep into the Z-direction but a wider XY plane.

6 is playing catchup but if it wants to lead it needs more. 8gb of Ram would be nice.

I’m on the annual upgrade program so it doesn’t matter to me unless it’s going to be dramatically faster than 11 pro Max.

About friggin time! Although iOS is well optimised so imagine once it ramps up 6 gb of RAM! It’ll become a bullett train!
