Sure. And nobody should ever have to make a choice about things like health insurance, that's why Medicare For All is a great idea, you just choose your doctor, there's no such thing as "out of network" any more.

That… analogy is quite out there.

(But, yes, the current US health system is not only terrible for citizens, but also unnecessarily expensive. Lose-lose.)

But when it comes to a phone? I like the big screens. Some people really love the small screens. For me the phone camera is just a handy way to take a quick snapshot of something I need to remember, I've got a DSLR for taking good pictures, for others a great phone camera is important. I want a LOT of storage on my phone, 128GB is kind of a minimum, I know people who won't ever fill 32GB.

Choice is important for some things. I see phones as one of those. I want to see more choice, not less. (Perfect phone for me would be a 6.5" LCD screen with 512GB storage, home button, headphone jack, hot-swappable battery, the 5 megapixel camera from an iPhone 4, no screen-side camera because I'm not going to FaceTime anybody ever, and about half an inch thick so it can have days of battery life.)

Four phones and some color choices is hardly any choice at all.

You're barking up the wrong tree, though.

I'm not sure four iPhones 12 is too many. I was merely responding to the person saying shoe stores offer even more choice. Yes, they do, and there's a point where too much choice is bad for your business. Is the iPhone 12 that point? That's much harder to say.

Still can’t get over “Pro Max”.

Why isn’t it just:

12
12 +
12 Pro
12 Pro +
Already done

Through sheer volume.

They'd probably love to be in Apple's market segment instead: lower volume, yet higher revenues.

My point was... Samsung has over 30 smartphone models listed for sale on their US website.

Apple has five.

If you want paralysis of choice... shop for a Samsung! :p

This is the naming scheme i've been telling since I have been hearing that iphone 6.1 max and iphone 6.1 pro ****** names.

OLD NEWS !

Been using this naming structure for many months now !

Have posted this table a number of times on this website over the past months !

NEW NEWS would be how much DRAM in each model, & whether ALL or just some are getting the Sony IMX686 64 Mpx image sensor !

Better jump on the iPhone 12 mini early because unfortunately the “mini” tag will likely mean product stagnation and years between updates...

Still can’t get over “Pro Max”.

Why isn’t it just:

12
12 +
12 Pro
12 Pro +

Because this wouldn't make sense at all from the business point of view. Just like the 11 has been the default iPhone for the last year, the same will happen with the 6.1 inch 12. The mini is not the default iPhone, it's a model for those, who don't like big smartphones. It's simple as that.

Then, the 6.1 inch 12 Pro will have 'pro' features over the regular 12 and the Pro Max is just bigger than the 12 Pro, but shouldn't differ in any other way (additional features and size is what the Plus stood for back in the day, if I remember correctly). To me this naming makes perfect sense (although funny enough I'll possibly switch from iPhone this year).

I dont even want a Word behind it.

Why cant it just be

iPhone 12
iPhone 12 Pro

Each with two screen size option. You dont call the iPad Pro max or MacBook Pro Max. Even average Consumer aren't that stupid.

If the iPhone mini is 650 I will get it as I'm not wasting my money on the pro over 1k with 60hz but mini with camera upgrades minus the telephoto for 650 is reasonable

I never understood that either. They made clear and acceptable branding with the plus line of phones, and I thought the whole point was to be able to differentiate size separate from normal/pro models. Then they just threw that out the window for no apparent reason and went with an even cheesier Max.

Plus was for the additional features apart from the size, if you look at the 11 Pro Max, the only difference between it and the regular Pro is the size. We will see if this holds true also this year.

From MacRumors recap:
In April 2020, leaker L0vetodream claimed that a new iPad Air was in development with an all-screen, notch-less design.
In April 2020, leaker L0vetodream claimed that the eighth-generation iPad would be powered by an A12 chip.
In June 2020, leaker L0vetodream suggested that Magic Keyboard compatibility would expand beyond the iPad Pro. This proved accurate with the announcement of the new iPad Air with Magic Keyboard support.
