Makes a lot of sense. Otherwise could see a lot of people confused that their iPhone 12 is smaller than their iPhone 11 if they went with regular/Plus for 5.4”/6.1”.

Also means both 6.1” are regular size variants of both normal and Pro iPhones.

Makes total sense if you consider that the iPad mini is essentially the smaller iPad Air. If they won’t rebrand iPad mini as an iPad Air, then I’m totally for branding the new smaller iPhone as iPhone mini.

Naming consistency for the win this time Apple!:D

I really hope they offer a variation of the “mini” that isn’t missing major flagship features. Charge what you want — price is less important to me than having a full featured phone with a smaller form factor. I don’t understand why Apple is so obsessed with this “bigger = more premium” mantra in the phone market. It’s just so ridiculous.
I hope for you that the mini (assuming this “mini” rumor is even accurate) is not shortchanged, though I’m skeptical (just my opinion) about the camera configuration. As for me, I just got an 11 4 months ago and I won’t be upgrading for at least 2 years.

If it was really going to be consistent then the 12.9" iPad Pro should be the iPad Pro Max! :)

This reminds me of the jokes about male family planning apparatus sold in sizes - large, extra-large and behemoth. Personally, I would love a 5.4inch modern iPhone.

Doubt it, especially since the SE is smaller..
so trying to explain it’s the mini but not the smallest to someone would be a mess 🤣

The current iPhone SE is bigger than the 5.4" iPhone 12 dummy.

Leaker known as "L0vetodream" has today shared the alleged naming for the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup on Twitter. The tweet proposes that the upcoming iPhone 12 models will be titled "iPhone 12 mini," "iPhone 12," "iPhone 12 Pro," and "iPhone 12 Pro Max."

iPhone-12-Mini-Article.jpg

The names likely correspond to the three expected sizes of iPhone 12, with the 5.4-inch model being the iPhone 12 mini, the 6.7-inch model being the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the two 6.1-inch models being the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

The naming of the "Pro" models follows the precedent established in previous years, and the speculated titles would be a logical naming system for the iPhone 12 lineup. With there being four new iPhones in this year's lineup, the use of four different names would help to differentiate the models significantly.

The iPhone 12 mini would be the first iPhone with the "mini" moniker, which has otherwise been seen on the iPad mini, Mac mini, and iPod mini. At 5.4-inches, the iPhone 12 mini would earn its name being smaller than 2019's smallest iPhone, the iPhone 11 Pro, which stands at 5.8-inches.

I will go will iphone (whatever) mini until my eyesight cant support it.

Wish someone reliable would tell WHEN they are announcing.
Yea I don't even as much about launch date. Just give when the announcement date will occur so we have a solid date for something to count down to. Feels like waiting for an Android OS update coming "soon" Ad Infinium

what happened to the S cycles? Why has 11s never been in the mix?
Since iPhone 6, iPhones have a three-year cycle (each cycle introducing a new design). Only the middle year of each cycle gets an S. This year starts a new cycle with the flat-edge design.

Indeed you are correct! And perhaps when the 12.9” gets mini-LED next year, Apple could christen it with the new name...

Easy. That’s because the mini is literally the smallest iPhone.
