Hmmm, adding Mini to the lineup seems reasonable... or even in line with the rest of the products. I dunno if that's a sure bet though. Personally I'm not opposed to the idea so *shrug* overall I guess it'll work.

Wake me up when they have iPhone 12 Pro^2 ....or even the more powerful iPhone 12! Pro Developers‘ Courage.

It does kind of make sense. It standardizes 6.1" as the "normal" screen size for both the 12 and 12 Pro, with models above and below having special Mini and Max names.

Yeah but for the current Series... 11 Pro was actually smaller than the regular 11. Smaller but packed more of a punch. Too bad Apple don't seem to be doing that again?

steve jobs is rolling in his grave right now with the SKU lineup of apple products
This is a pretty tired and misunderstood reflection on what jobs did to the Mac lineup when he came back. Things were in shambles and he cleaned them up, it’s that simple. I would hardly call the sku lineup here shambles. Apple knows what it’s doing, it knows how to sell a lot of iPhones, and I doubt jobs would have a problem with that one bit.

Now the big question is whether or not the iPhone line-up also switches to USB-C this year (as the iPad Air 2020 does).

I wish they would just go all the way with this naming scheme.
iPhone SE becomes just iPhone
iPhone mini: 5.4
iPhone Air: 6.1
iPhone Pro: 6.1 and 6.7
Not only will it match up with the iPad lineup, but it would also simplify things a lot.
Also, the name iPhone mini really reminds me of this from back in the day...

Under Jobs, we had the iPod classic, the iPod shuffle, the iPod nano, the iPod mini, and the iPod touch.
We also had a MacBook, a MacBook Pro, a MacBook Air that was more expensive than the pro, a Mac mini, an iMac, and Mac Pro.
He knew how to make different devices for different markets. Just because the first five iPhones that he worked on didn’t have different screen size options, did not mean that that wasn’t a possibility for the future. The MacBook Pro came in three screen sizes, I wouldn’t be surprised to see the iPhone come in three screen sizes under jobs if he were still alive today.

Coming soon...

Samsung Galaxy S21 mini

:)
Samsung had mini versions of the Galaxy S3, S4, and S5 (2012-2014)
Here's the 2011 original courtesy of the internet wayback machine: https://www.samsung.com/galaxyace/mini_overview.html ← fun fact, the links still somewhat work.

So if they recycle and old product name to capitalize on Apple's rumored use of mini... nah. Their S and N series are just big ass phones. They could bring mini back on one of their mid/lower tier A or M series though.

Still can’t get over “Pro Max”.

Why isn’t it just:

12
12 +
12 Pro
12 Pro +

I think it's mostly to distinguish between the plus models 6+, 6S+, 7+, and 8+. The Max has a bigger screen that the plus models. I don't think to many people would be confused, as a lot phone manufactures make different size screens without having to have new names to indicate each screen size.

I never understood that either. They made clear and acceptable branding with the plus line of phones, and I thought the whole point was to be able to differentiate size separate from normal/pro models. Then they just threw that out the window for no apparent reason and went with an even cheesier Max.

I assumed because plus could be related to size or just being better, whereas Max is more distinctly just about size. Also, using Max allows for the small one to be called Min or Mini. With the Plus convention, the small one would be called minus, which is a bad name. I also feel like combining the words Pro and Plus could be confusing together for some people. Using Pro and Max together is more distinguishable.

Then imo they messed up, because the plus model had the same PPI screen, and the only discernible feature difference I think was image stabilization. However max comes across in my head as being more aligned with maximum features, similar to how the word ultra is used.

The 7 and 8 also had a second camera on plus models only.

So yeah, I think the formula, probably completely made up and stupid, but nonetheless it refers to:

1) Plus model has a larger screen and some camera differences
2) Max model has larger screen and no other differences

(battery size and resolution are different with both, since the additional size demands a larger battery and screen resolution to keep up with the scale of it)

Honestly it does seem like Max is just there as a name for the "new" iPhone style (XS, and 11, never had a X Max though) using FaceID and no home button, while Plus stays in the past with the old original iPhone style.

Makes me wonder if they originally wanted to leave the idea of larger phones behind with the X launch, but they of course saw the demand for a larger phone by the XS. By then they felt like rebooting the name with Max.

Apple please do not used the “Mini” for the 5.4” iPhone 12! The “Mini” in the iPad stands for a budget, cheap, economical smaller iPad. It is now focus selling to children too! It is ridiculous how the Mini, which when came out was expensive and many business and professional brought it is now sort of a joke! Apple has not really updated the iPad Mini to equal either the iPad Air or iPad Pro. Just call it by it size - “iPhone 12 Minimum”! People who buy the 5.4” need to have some respect, not look down on, even by children!

How about a 5.4” iPhone Pro model?

what are you talking about? The latest iPad mini was updated 18 months ago. It has the A12 chip. It’s plenty powerful.
The only thing that is slightly outdated about the iPad mini is the design, but that’s rumored to be updated in early 2021 anyway.

Leaker known as "L0vetodream" has today shared the alleged naming for the upcoming iPhone 12 lineup on Twitter. The tweet proposes that the upcoming iPhone 12 models will be titled "iPhone 12 mini," "iPhone 12," "iPhone 12 Pro," and "iPhone 12 Pro Max."

iPhone-12-Mini-Article.jpg

The names likely correspond to the three expected sizes of iPhone 12, with the 5.4-inch model being the iPhone 12 mini, the 6.7-inch model being the iPhone 12 Pro Max, and the two 6.1-inch models being the iPhone 12 and iPhone 12 Pro.

The naming of the "Pro" models follows the precedent established in previous years, and the speculated titles would be a logical naming system for the iPhone 12 lineup. With there being four new iPhones in this year's lineup, the use of four different names would help to differentiate the models significantly.

The iPhone 12 mini would be the first iPhone with the "mini" moniker, which has otherwise been seen on the iPad mini, Mac mini, and iPod mini. At 5.4-inches, the iPhone 12 mini would earn its name being smaller than 2019's smallest iPhone, the iPhone 11 Pro, which stands at 5.8-inches.

Love the naming scheme. Still wish it was slightly smaller but I’m starting to feel encouraged by this new (long overdue) direction. I’ve been hanging on to my OG SE for a long time, patiently waiting for a suitable successor...I hope this is the one.
