I was planning on keeping my iPhone 8 for about 4+ years when I first bought it new, like I kept my 5S for 4-5 years. However, that 5.4" 12 is going to be really hard to resist, especially if it's really $649.

I sure wish the 5.4” was going to be a Pro-model. Not looking forward to going from 5.8 to 6.1”, but I’ll still get the Pro since I have a sick obsession.
Exactly how I feel. I don't care about the price, as I'm due for an upgrade from the X anyway. Especially with the X not having LTE band 12, it's really noticeable in data performance even compared to the newer Intel modems that have B12.

I want the better cameras, mmWave (it's already deployed near one of the buildings I frequented, until COVID-19), and the flat-edge design. I don't care as much about the LiDAR today, but I'll take it and see what they do with it in a few years.

And I'm willing to pay $999+ for all these features. I just want them in the 5.4" size.

Smartphone prices have ballooned out-of-control, so an OLED base price of $649 would be welcomed.

OLED has also now be in the iPhone lineup for 3 years come this Fall, so it's time for it to be "mainstream". Apple can probably generate economy of scale advantages (the slowing economy probably gives it even more leverage for cheaper components) by moving the entire new iPhone line up to OLED.

Wasn’t Prosser predicting the SE would launch every day for like 3 weeks?

Don’t worry all the features in the pros this year will be in the standard models 2021

For the UK - exchange rates are painful right now. I predict:

(currently iPhone SE is £419)
iPhone SE Max/Plus 5.5" £519 in 2021

iPhone 12 5.4" - £679
iPhone 12 6.1" - £779

iPhone 12 Pro 6.1" - £1049
iPhone 12 Pro Max 6.7" - £1149

That way you get 3 tiers. 5.4" is definitely the sweet spot for me (not that anyone should care)

Questions is if 12 will have TouchID (under display or anywhere) or not? If not, stick to iPhone 6s/7/8 Plus.

6.1 12 Pro will replace my X for sure.. Hopefully most of the rumored design changes will happen. I'll miss the 5.8 size but I most definitely don't want a smaller phone and definitely not a non Pro

Hope this isn’t true. Screen sizes are perfect the way they are. Don’t want to “downgrade” to a non-Pro just to keep a similar sized screen as the 11 Pro. It’s just barely small enough for my hands.

these 4 models + SE + previous generations = way to too many available. It should be 3 choices. Small cheap phone, middle of the line & high end. simple.

Hard to do when people like different sized phones.

The Pro models need to be starting at 128gb, in line with the recent iPad Pro storage bumps. I refuse to pay $1149 for a phone again, just to get more than 64gb.

If Apple sticks with the current capacities, I’ll downgrade to the "regular" 6.1, since it will finally have OLED (which is far more important to me than LiDAR), and pay only $749 to get 128gb.

But that's exactly the plan, you will have 3 choices. Your small, cheap phone is the SE. Your middle line gets a choice size of 5.4 or 6.1, and your high end is the Pro in 6.1 or 6.7.

There's no previous generation to be sold. When the XS came out, the X was discontinued. When the 11 Pro came out, the XS was discontinued. Based on history, when the new phones are announced, the 11, 11 Pro, and XR are leaving.

I am curious about which iPhones will have the higher refresh rate OLEDs and what the resolution of the 5.4” iPhone will be. I prefer a high refresh rate with my next phone, so I anticipate going with the $1000 iPhone on the caveat they have some good trade in offers for my XS.

Um.....

You have the "Pro"
$1099 iPhone 12 Pro Max
$999. iPhone 12 Pro

You have the Mainstream
$699. iPhone 12
$599. iPhone 12 Mini / 5.4" *AND* iPhone 11

OR

$749 iPhone 12
$649 iPhone 12 Mini 5.4"
$599. iPhone 11

You have the "Classic" / Low Cost.
$499 iPhone 9 Plus
$399 iPhone 9

I dont see any fragmentation. It may be a little messy now but I see Apple is step by step going towards this three tier model. I still thinks the Gap between $699 and $999 / $1099 is way too big. Kind of make Sense the top tier of Mid Stream to close the gap a little.

Just a note. The A13 in next / or this years's *entry level* iPhone will beat even the Qualcomm 865 is most of the test.

I wrote that on March 18th, 2020......

Now it is obvious the bottom tier will simply be iPhone SE. And we will be dropping the Max moniker as well. Which I also wrote somewhere else.

And obviously he hasn't touched the subject of mmWave. And it isn't increasing in price as he is suggesting. [1] My bet is the $749 will start with 128GB. Effectively being the same price as 128GB iPhone 11.

2020 iPhone SE is new small iPhone. 5.4" is not a small iPhone but 6.7" is definitely maxer. 6.1" in sweet spot.

Wrong.

You’re just looking at screen size, not overall body size. How will a 5.4” iPhone 11 compare in overall size to the 202 SE?

Exactly.

The 5.4" iPhone 12 is gonna be smaller than the 2020 iPhone SE.

This.

Why, why, why are smaller iphones always gimped on features?!?

5.4" Pro FTW.

Prediction: the 5.4" iPhone 12 will sell so well that the iPhone 13 will have a Pro version at that size. With a higher price of course.

I'm with you there, I do not want to spend an extra $150 to have more than 64gb. I also am not particularly interested in LiDAR. However, the Pro models are rumored to be the only ones with pro motion (120hz), and I've been spoiled by that feature on the iPad Pro, even just scrolling websites feels so smooth, so it's something I'll likely splurge for.

LCD is still mainstream in the larger screens , like the ones found in the iPads

I haven't said this in 8 years, but I'm actually thinking of getting an iPhone! I would keep my S10 and have the iPhone as a second device. The lineup looks pretty stellar this year and I would like to get my hands on the newest camrea in the Pro/Pro Max.
