If the only differences between 12 and 12 Pro are going to be cameras + LiDAR, I’m gonna sell my iPhone X and upgrade to an iPhone 12 5.4”.

I love the idea of going back to a smaller phone without compromising too much on features.

Don't forget about Pro Motion (120hz) like the iPad Pros have. Never thought it would be a must-have feature for me, but after using it so much on my iPad Pro, I want it on my phone too.

I don’t think the 5.4” will be the big seller, I think people want that new design that only the pro models will have. The dated design of the SE, 6, 6s, 7, 8, X, XS, XR, 11 and 11 pro will make people want the newest design after 6 years.

i can’t wait because I hate the current curved tubby shape and fat notch.

We're looking at:
  • 4.7-inch iPhone SE (2020): $399
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 11 $549
  • 5.4-inch iPhone 12: $649
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12: $749
  • 6.1-inch iPhone 12 Pro: $999
  • 6.7-inch iPhone 12 Pro Max: $1,099

Prediction: the 5.4" iPhone 12 will sell so well that the iPhone 13 will have a Pro version at that size. With a higher price of course.

Um... Interesting thought, although I do think Apple tends to use Screen Size as Price Segmentation. With a likely 5.4" iPhone SE coming next year. Not to mention I dont see how they could fit mmWave antenna inside a 5.4"body. So for the sake of discussion let say it can. The iPhone 13 ( 2021 ) will look like,;

$1099 iPhone Pro 6.7"
$999. iPhone Pro 6.1"
$899 iPhone Pro 5.4"

$749 iPhone 13 6.1"
$649 iPhone 13 5.4"

$499 iPhone SE 5.4"
$399. iPhone SE 4.7"

Looks plausible to me.

Edit: The good thing about an $899 is that it pushes the potential 5.4" iPhone user which wants a small phone rather than a cheap phone to the $899 price category, effectively bumping up ASP. The problem is that it may hurt the 6.1" iPhone Pro. So the Net results is up to anyone's guess. Assuming the best possible scenario where it actually pushes up ASP across the product line, it would solve the *riddle* of how is Apple going about its mmWave cost. mmWave = increase in BOM cost. And without hiking up price, Apple cant retain its margin.

I think pushing up ASP partly solves the problem.

I would love a smaller iPhone with an OLED screen. The only questions I have are what the pixel density and battery size will be.

I am curious about which iPhones will have the higher refresh rate OLEDs and what the resolution of the 5.4” iPhone will be. I prefer a high refresh rate with my next phone, so I anticipate going with the $1000 iPhone on the caveat they have some good trade in offers for my XS.
Pros only I think

They need more for the Pro model, a third camera and LiDAR doesn't seem a compelling reason to spend the extra money.
What if they finally give us ProMotion on the OLED, so the Pro models will feature 120Hz or at least 90Hz while the "base" model is the same OLED of iPhone 11 Pro?

With a future lineup like that, makes you wonder if they actually end up dropping the numbers from models, since they could be iPhone Pro, iPhone and iPhone SE, or maybe iPhone Pro, iPhone Air, iPhone SE?

The Pro's squared off design will certainly be better, but I can't justify spending $350+ for looks and a camera/LiDAR sensor.

Interesting thought! Personally I wouldn’t mind if that happened but at the end of the day it’s just a name anyway. :)

I am going to wait until they all come out and make a decision on what will be my next phone. I think the iPhone 12 5.4" phone may be what I may lean towards, however, the SE could also be a possibility.

This is only good for us as consumers. The more options the better. The fact you can get a $399 iPhone that is 90% the Pro variant is incredible.

I wish they'd put the normal camera and the zoom in the dual camera ones like the old days. the ultra wide is less necessary than zoom.

I still have my Xs and often use the 2x
My wife has a iPhone 11, I guess we took a couple of pictures with ultra wide and that's it. Can be useful for landscapes sometimes, but if you shot too close to the subject the image looks weird. Can be fun sometimes, but is not a lens you need to use too often.
They're not stupid and put the best lens in the Pro, they want to lure us into buying the more expensive model.

Well, as long as the price to upgrade (w/ trade ins or some promos) makes sense, I'll get one. If it's like $500 more to get that one feature, no chance. I would rather go for the $650 iPhone 12.

Well the extra features will likely also be

Bigger sensors
Night mode on all camera lens
Bigger battery

However at this stage not sure what else.

i went from original se to xs

i liked everything about the xs except the size and returned it after a week

hoping this 5.4” 12 will be the right size for me

LCD is still mainstream in the larger screens , like the ones found in the iPads

Well, yea, because OLED technology isn't economically feasible for a screen that big. That's why we'll see Mini-LED coming out in the iPads within the next year or so, and the iPhone line will probably follow shortly thereafter.
