You shouldn’t expect that on your Mini. Her Pro is rated 800 nits, your Mini is rated 625 nits.hers is brighter. Her's is the brightness I would expect.

I looked at the Minis in store today. The first one I held was surprisingly dim. Even next to the regular 12, which should be rated the same.
Went to the next store and it was way, way better. Maybe it was the settings (both were set to 100 % brightness though) or there are some QC issues.
So I did some more comparisons against the 2020 SE. it seems the mini can get just as bright when in strong light. I can max out the brightness and still watch the screen get even brighter by moving into a brighter room.
I imagine Apple is limiting the auto-brightness until it’s actually needed in order to improve battery life. It’s definitely not a technical limitation of the display.. at least on my unit.
The more threads I read about the 12 mini, the more grateful I am to have a decently working unit.
Mine was dim at first when it was syncing all my data and charging, I believe it has to do with it overheating so it dims the display until that is complete. Seems nice and bright to me now.
Okay, that makes sense; however, it still just seems so dim. When I turn off auto brightness and turn brightness all the way up, this is about what I was used to on a normal basis with my X (with auto brightness on).You shouldn’t expect that on your Mini. Her Pro is rated 800 nits, your Mini is rated 625 nits.
With AB on/off Mini should be similar to X. If it is much dimmer, ask for a replacement.Okay, that makes sense; however, it still just seems so dim. When I turn off auto brightness and turn brightness all the way up, this is about what I was used to on a normal basis with my X (with auto brightness on).
Maybe I just need to get used to it but I don't know if I can live with it on auto brightness. On my X at night when the brightness is turned all the way down, sometimes it felt almost too bright. On the mini with the brightness turned almost all the way down, I can't really read the screen.
What does this even mean?Your ALS is out of whack. That’s the issue. I’m not sure you understand the cause or what that is.
What does this even mean?
My friends iPhone mini flickers below 40% brightness. I think there are some issues going on with this panel.
Seriously, what are you referring to by ALS?Exactly. Do me a favour. Please visit an Apple Store and check out out 5-10 OLED iPhones.
Ambient Light Sensor.Seriously, what are you referring to by ALS?
Thank you kindly.Ambient Light Sensor.
I don’t know if you have heard about this pandemic going on, but your constant suggestion of this tells me you have no clue about the current state of Apple Store service. But I also offered a simple solution, go to an Apple store. There are so many iPhones there. Just compare.
Thank you kindly.
Anyway, as I was trying to explain. I believe my mini is working just as designed and I’m glad it can reach the same ~ 600 nits my SE2 can in bright light 😁

Just confirmed with my X. Same exact settings, auto brightness on both, my mini is WAY dimmer. When I move the slider to full brightness (auto-brightness still on) then they look about the same. How unfortunate. I don't really want to go into a store.Okay, that makes sense; however, it still just seems so dim.
