Yeah indoors. No reason for the ambient light sensor to jack up the brightness. It's so weird. Def defective because that didn't happen on my other iPhones.

Confirmed, no change in brightness when AB is on/off. Brightness set to around 30%.

Sorry, was a little bit busy. I just ran a quick test and you're right, the brightness seems to be the same regardless AB is on off.

I have a Pro Max, but I need to wait until tonight so I have second Pro Max to compare the brightness to be sure. I'll run another test tonight.

In my experience, anything below 100 stays the same indoor or outdoor. When you push it to 100, it goes super bright whether indoor or outdoor. So if you like it really bright all the time, this is the way to go.

Yes, when setting my brightness to MAX and then turning off auto-brightness. My screen does get brighter. However, this only happens when the brightness slider is at MAX. If its in any other position and I turn off auto-brightness, nothing changes.

My first one was like this. The device failed the diagnostics. I got a replacement from Apple.

My second one looks the same with or without auto brightness.

Hey, so I just tried this with my 11 Pro Max and there is no difference, except for max brightness. My screen has never appeared dull. With auto brightness disabled the screen gets insanely bright at max, compared to auto brightness enabled.

Hey.I have also tried turning autobrightness on/off around 50% on 11 Pro and there was no change in brightness, this was at night and home.And i tested it way back and even tried it today.Got the same result tbh.Akshay you are correct as per me

I'm not impressed by this OLED, I would agree most OLED's are typically more dim but this is ridiculous. I got my daughter the SE and her screen fly's with brightness at barely 50%. I shouldn't have to crank up the brightness to 90% for it to look like 50% on my old X display. At 90% that's just going to wear out the battery faster. I just got the phone yesterday, I'm taking back and if they issue me another phone like this I'm getting the SE. I don't need to spend this much for email & web reading.

1. OLEDs are actually brighter at same measured nits.

2. Your iPhone is defective if it is much dimmer than her SE.

3. Using at 90% won’t drain battery because the measured nits is same as your X at 50%. So it will use battery equivalent to 50. This is due to the defect.

4. You might need to replace a few times because it seems about half the iPhone 12 units selling right now are defective.

After reading through this thread and having a dim iPhone 12 Mini display I swapped mine out for a new iPhone 12 Mini.

So far so good, this one seems to be working fine.

dunno what it is, mine is same. even xs max is same. the problem is my X has the brighest screen/white of all. i even compared them in apple shop. i currently have x/xs max/12/12 mini, and x is on top. don t know if u can't tell from pic done with my 7 but in reality the x blows ur eyes. X-12-12mini
