I just checked the prices on the Apple Store. The 12 mini is only $699 for Verizon and AT&T only? WTH...

I'm running an (original) SE, which still has 91% battery capacity after nearly four years, and I've got another one sitting on the shelf waiting. So I'm not in the market now. But it's good to know that when the time comes to finally move off the SE, there'll be something worth buying with a similar form factor.

No mention of battery life. Not a good sign. They would surely have mentioned it If it was good!

I just played with the comparison tool a bit. 12 randomly gets 1 more hour of streaming video playback than 11, otherwise the same battery life. 12 mini video playback is on par with XS Max, audio with 6/6s.

The mini is a great option for those wanting to upgrade to a small phone with a modern design, although I do think $699 is too expensive. Compared to my phone (SE 2020), it’s a $300 jump! I suppose it depends on how much a modern design and top of the range specs is worth to you.

This would’ve been perfect for me, coming from the iPhone SE Old, but getting the SE New for $199 ($500 cheaper) makes me feel not so bad.

Interesting figures for the battery of iPhone 12 mini compared to iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 8

Sorry. it's in french, but the numbers should give you an idea.

The mini is priced to do poorly; hard to justify in relation to bargain basement prices for on-sale SE or the price of the 12. Either they expect big box sellers to run deep discounts, or, they don't really want people picking this one up until they've worked out all the kinks in an upgrade round or two.

Biggest differences are OLED display, 5G and the ring of magnets.

Still incremental IMO. If they can keep the Pro prices the same with these upgrades (let's agree the previous model already having OLED is offset by doubling the base storage capacity) and more, it looks like a $100 price jump on the 12 simply because they can. And again, 5G also comes with an additional $120/yr price tag on Verizon on top of this.

Once I get a chance to hold this mini in my hands I may trade in my 11 pro for it and stick with it for a few years. I care nothing for 5g but I want a physically smaller device.
