Yes, if you want to utilize 5G.
Not for T-Mobile’s current 5G deployment. Only Verizon requires a new SIM card.
Since T-Mobile does not charge an activation fee like ATT and Verizon, I’d still recommend activating a new SIM card. Won’t hurt a bit…!
T-Mobile is deploying another technology than the current 5G mid-band frequency called “standalone 5G” - a poor name in my opinion! - which is not really available anywhere and has no coverage map, and that will require a new SIM card. Until it’s deployed, the iPhone 12 will work perfectly on 5G with your old SIM card.

Doesn't change the fact that you can't blanket say no it doesn't work when it worked for me.
I didn’t make any “it doesn’t work” blanket statement. The member asked if the new SIM was needed for 5G on T-Mobile. I answered correctly. I have been told the same the same thing by several T-Mobile reps, as have several other members of the forum. I didn’t make anything up. I provided the proper information. I am not going to debate this specific T-Mobile aspect any more.

Question for all: If you did Next up and have an existing phone on Next to give back, and did the order on Apple - where/how do you give the old phone back to AT&T?

I can’t answer that aspect. You will need to contact T-Mobile directly via the app or Twitter, to get an answer.
Just a reminder that if you have both eSIM and physical SIM active, the iPhone 12 will NOT support 5G on any of them.

About 5G and Dual SIM

If you have iPhone 12, iPhone 12 mini, iPhone 12 Pro, or iPhone 12 Pro Max, and both phone lines are active, 5G isn't available. To use 5G on these iPhone models, disable Dual SIM mode by turning off either one of your phone lines:
  1. Open the Settings app, then tap Cellular.
  2. Select the line that you want to turn off.
  3. Turn off the switch next to Turn On This Line.

It’s weird though because the regular 12 pro model (in blue at least) went far quicker as I recall.

the old frenzy days are definitely over
Can still pick up the 12 Pro in all colors today at my local Apple store. I feel bad for people who preordered weeks ago and are still waiting for theirs.

Ordered iPhone mini 256gb in blue and 12 p
Pro Max 256gb in Graphite and 1 HomePod mini which I appear to not be getting on launch day. But iPhones appear to be coming on launch day. Exciting.

Ordered within a minute via the app! Great not having to wake up at 3am EST this year to get this one haha. Easiest pre-order yet in my scenario at least!

128GB 12 Pro Max Pacific Blue
Did you have to put your social security number when pre ordering the iPhone?

can't believe the mini finally exists. I have a feeling this size (or somewhere in this ballpark) will remain a staple in future iPhone lineups.

I ordered the iPhone 12 mini in black with 256 GB. freaking pumped.

It seems the online store didn’t process my payment for 3 hours, although it had already been taken out of my bank account. So those 3 hours pass and I got a delivery date of +5-7 days.

boo!

oh well, first world problems!
Did you receive a "confirmation email" minutes after your order was placed?

I think you’re right. History generally repeats itself, and we’ve been through one swing from big to small cell phones already, and I think people forget just how nice it is to have a device that fits in one hand, and doesn’t require cargo pants pockets to hold.

The only thing that presents an issue for what I think may be a lot of people, is that their smart phone (iPhone or Android) is often their only computer. And for some it is their only screened device (no tv), which makes going small more of an issue for how they can interact with and consume info.

Of course, here I am having just ordered the 12 Pro Max, so I’m going even bigger this year. I do keep an old 5S in my desk drawer as a reminder of just how small a device I used to be happy with.

So nothing seems to have changed in terms of the status. How long before we see "being processed?"

We are about 6 1/2 hours in and according to the apple website, the 12MP Midnight Blue is still set for delivery on Nov. 24-30, so not slipping too quickly compared to the 12 Pro.

I placed my order soon after it opened and still nothing has changed.
Hmmmm.

*yet.

It’s supposed to be coming later this year as a software update.

Ordered the 12 pro max 256 in gold right as the pre order opened. Expected delivery is Friday the 13th. Hoping for no bad luck

Does new phone from apple comes with sim card? Last time I ordered from T-Mobile and it came with new sim card.

I did not realize this. Thank you for replying here.

depending on how you ordered it. You can get sim-free iPhone or a pre-loaded version.

I just went to am AT&T store, and they took it. The customer service person on the phone said it would be easiest instead of shipping it back. At the store, the dude said I won't see the credit for 3 pay periods though.
