The Mini 12/13 will definitely be my next iPhone, even it is still a little too big for me. iPhone 4/4s was the just perfect size.
But as long my SE 1 works I have no hurry to update.
I do not think Apple will cancel the Mini, there will be a 13 Mini and logically it would make sense if the Mini will be the new SE 3 in 3-4 Years....I certainly hope so...

I'm sure the iPad mini is not in the

It's funny how the one's who have no interest in the mini, think that their opinion matters more than those who have no interest in a phablet.
And, yes...it was implied.
It’s not that people who like bigger phones opinion matter more just that it’s a way larger percentage of the market then those who want a small phone

I love the fact that the 12 mini is not selling well. Back in the iPhone X days there were so many goobers stating that an iPhone X design in an SE package was an automatic buy. Where are these goobers now?
Literally millions of them are buying the iPhone 12 mini. It’s beating out all but 3 Android models. It’s one of the top 10 out of ALL smartphones in the world. Not being #1 doesn’t mean no one wants it.
Also, how sad is it that you get joy out of a phone not selling well? Seriously?

Oh, it’s in the top 10. Cool. I hope they keep making them, it’s the only iPhone I’d want if I had to buy a new one right now.

Listed above the cheaper 2020 SE too, but not so many negative articles about that model. Interesting.

I don’t think the form factor is why the mini isn’t selling, it’s the price. Apple should have waited and made the mini the new $399 iPhone SE, they could have used an LCD and single camera to keep the cost low.
You aren’t getting an lcd in the same form factor at such a compact size. If people really prefer the fork factor you would think they be happy with a phone that doesn’t compromise much from the standard model

It's a disappointment. Supply chain info suggests that Apple has had to decrease mini production by 70% (!) because it didn't even come close to meeting expectations.
Disappointment to who though? If they were expecting to sell any more minis, as the reporting suggests, but people instead chose a different phone, likely a higher price phone, I don't think Apple would be disappointed that they made more money than they expected. Surprised maybe, but I'm not so sure disappointed.

I think the "mini" name had an effect on sales too. They should have called it iphone 12. Called the 12 the plus, and so on. I think it would have been a much better sell. People equate mini with LESS than normal. Therefore why would I buy less of a phone when I can get a real iphone 12 for only 100 bucks more. More people would have said, I don't need to spend the extra 100 bucks on the larger size.
If the form factor is the appeal then the name wouldn’t matter. It’s better then getting consumers who aren’t educated on the exact size differences to buy it instead of the regular sized 12

I would have gotten the iPhone 12 mini a few years back, but my aging eyes keep me from owning super small phones anymore. Regular size iPhone/Pixel is minimum now. It's a shame, because I LOVE that small form factor.

That’s too bad. I love the 12 mini. Maybe it becomes the next gen SE?

Seems pretty clear I’m in the minority of customers, but I’ve never been tempted by the +/max sizes. Back when the XR was the lowest priced option for a new phone, I got one through work and hated the size.

But hey...if it helps Apple keep production going, I’ll recommit to buying a new phone every year 😉.

Yes the point is that the mini hasn’t met Apple’s own sales expectations.

Sure some of the people who didn’t buy it would have bought the 12 instead or even maybe a 12 Pro, which is a higher margin product. Not all but some. And then some of the others bought nothing.

However, if there is enough of this happening - either buying nothing at all or else buying a different model - then there is a point where having the mini in the line makes no sense for Apple anymore. At that certain threshold Apple will just stop making it completely.

We don’t know where that threshold lies but I believe we are getting awfully close to Apple killing this product line. Or at best, making it a once every three years kind of thing.

May plan is to get the iPhone 14 mini when it comes out to upgrade from my 12 Pro. I want the smaller form factor. I didn’t get the 13 because it wasn’t enough of a change from my 12 plus my local store was closed for a very long time. I won’t buy a phone unless I have a chance to play around with it for a bit before to see how it looks/feels. Perhaps sales will improve once the actual device improves in capability as well.

The lack of Touch ID isn’t effecting other iPhone sales most consumers don’t care
The only other "mini" size phone is the 2016 SE, which does have TouchID. I had to return the 12 mini because it was hurting my eyes, but one of the benefits of going back to the SE is TouchID. There's no way around it, excluding immediately after washing my hands, I've had about as many TouchID misses since November as I usually did in a day using FaceID on the iPhone X.

Do you live in the future?

Sold my mini. Found it too big. Back on my tidy little SE1. Apple should make four sizes 0.6” apart

5.1”, 5.7”, 6.3” and 6.9”.

Or if really they are hell-bent on only three sizes give them more obvious diversity and clarity:

5”, 6”, 7”.

Though personally I think four sizes as above is the better option. Bottom line, the mini is a smell-er phone, not a small phone. If you want to target it as a small phone then commit to that 100%. And if concerned about battery life then just make it 1 mm thicker depth wise. Frankly as a last resort if Apple brought back SE1 as is and just updated the chip and camera I’d be happy.

I have a mini. I love it. I do not ever want a bigger phone. I am glad Apple makes a phone I can buy.

Now we have a better idea of how big the market is for smaller premium phones. One thing I do wonder is if more people would have bought the Mini if the new SE hadn’t come up before it. I needed to replace my old SE and I was tempted to buy the current one. The current one isn’t really appealing to me but it was more appealing than the giant phones Apple was selling.
