iPhone 12 Mini Missing From Top 5 Best Selling Smartphone List of January 2021

Two positive takes on this. First, it’s still in the top 10. Second, it outperformed the SE. Methinks that while sales expectations weren’t what Apple thought they’d be, it’s still moving in decent numbers. And in the end Apple is probably not exactly disappointed by the fact that more folks are buying the pricier, larger models than they expected.

I love the fact that the 12 mini is not selling well. Back in the iPhone X days there were so many goobers stating that an iPhone X design in an SE package was an automatic buy. Where are these goobers now?
We’re enjoying our 12 minis..

Wow, that Palm Shutter (delayed trigger) is really cool !

Just stumbled across it on the Mi website.

Does Apple have anything similar ?

Anybody ? ... thanks in advance.

I'm very happy with my 12 mini.
I was coming from a 2016 SE; so this was a substantial upgrade.
But I like a smaller, lighter, back pocketable phone.
So for me, the alternative wouldn't have been the 12.
It would have been the 2020 SE.

The screen + battery life are excellent, for me at least.
The camera is obviously the best I've ever had.

Alternate headlines:

6 OF THE TOP 10 SELLING PHONES ARE IPHONES!

IPHONE SE APPLE'S LEAST SELLING PHONE

IPHONE SALES MAKING BANK IN AGE OF COVID

IPHONE SALES LEADERSHIP: WHAT'S APPLE DOING RIGHT?

Nope, you go for click bait.... Weren't you guys on the "No women will buy an Apple Tablet" bandwagon because the name sounding like a hygiene product?

This is such nonsense. The top four models are all iPhones. So basically they are complaining that Apple has only the four top sellers, and not the five top sellers.
Alternative title: iPhones make up 4 of the 5 best-selling smartphones in January...
Not just four of the top five, but actually the top four.

Isn't the whole point of having a smaller phone is so that it's easier to use on the go, especially for men who don't have a purse for phablets?

I know I want to upgrade to the 13 Mini as soon as the pandemic is over and I can go out again. I hate the size of my XR.

I have a 12 Pro Max and mini, both from the free bill credit deals, and really like the mini. It's a lot more practical to carry around, and I find the screen size acceptable.
Same here except I have the 12 Pro and mini. The mini has a great screen and is lightweight. Mini has larger screen and slightly smaller footprint than the iPhone 8.

What an absolutely terrible title for this article. How about: “iPhones hold top 4 spots in sales, 6 of the top 10.” Or if you really feel the need to make it about the mini, “iPhone mini outsells all but 3 Android phones, is 8th most popular phone in the world.”
If MR had titled the article correctly, it wouldn't have generated the revenue this title will.

I agree with you and Gnasher; poor clickbait title.

With the 12 mini only being $100 less than the regular 12 and the regular 12 having much better battery life it is a hard sell for anyone other than people who really love the size (like me).

When the original SE came out it was a hit because it was an update to the size people liked, it was far less expensive than the 6s, and it even had a bit better battery life than the 6s.
In regards to battery, one of the biggest problems is from people who choose to live on their phones (not for work purposes mind you) and can't be bothered to charge their phone once during the day, even though they are surrounded by charging outlets. I think many of these same people have convinced themselves that getting anything less than the most expensive phone is some kind of personal status mark against them.

MacRumors attempts to paint the 12 mini as a failure are both obvious and pathetic and I do not understand why. So it’s not the #1 most popular phone in the world. It’s primarily being beat by its siblings. It’s outselling all three Android models. 1% of ALL Smartphones sold in the world for January is still in the millions of phones. Drop the hate already it’s making you look bad.
It does seem like this site is weirdly focused on painting the Mini as a failure. It's literally on the list in their graphic as the 8th best selling phone in January. The headline should have said "iPhones make up five out of the top ten best-selling smartphones"

it’s seriously weird. How many widely discussed and praised android phones aren’t in the top 10? It outsold every pixel phone and all Samsung models except one, and I don’t hear anyone calling those phones failures.

We bought them and are using them?

And yet it's still selling better than the 2020 SE.
Because people have been wanting and waiting for a better smaller phone. If they had included the telephoto lens, it would’ve sold a lot better.

The SE is the budget model. 12 mini buyers want the 12 feature set (5G, Face ID, OLED, and the good cameras), but in a reasonable, usable size.
