As long as part of your hand is making contact with the frame or metal of the phone
Lol, someone should do a parody on YouTube on how to unlock an iPhone mini that you must rest a finger on the camera.
It’s pretty ridiculous that this slipped through. You would have thought they test their phones with screen protectors on?

I'm sure the Pikata cases work because they have cutouts for all the ports, so more likely part of your hand would be touching the case.

I was thinking the exact same thing...like literally none of the testers were using a case and a screen protector? Not very good QA from Apple. Unless of course this is a 14.2 issue and it's not happening on 14.1.

I have a case and screen protector on my 12 mini and it opens up fine on the lock screen with all fingers except my thumb. Anyone else find this?
No you must have a fat thumb lol
Jk. My sister doesn’t have any problems with her phone because she has tiny fingers. Her phone only screws up when I try to use it

lol 😂 it’s only a problem on the Lock Screen, once I’m in to the phone everything works fine

I started noticing that it seems a tad bit slower to react during regular use also.

I am going to try a Pitaka case and see if it works. Will be here tomorrow. If someone has already tried the Pitaka and it didn’t work, please let me know so I can cancel my order.
I am using a Pitaka Air case, there are cut outs for all buttons, and I also am user a 0.25mm Panzer glass protector. I have the issue as well. Hope this helps.

Indeed, I observe that:
  • Touching the metal frame (easy because my case allows that) makes it work fine
  • Plugged to power, it also works fine
This only happen on the lock screen and notification center. Makes me believe the hardware is fine.

I don't think it has anything to do with the power button. I have a case that has cutouts for all the buttons, no part of the case is touching my power button, but I'm still having issues. I think it's you touching the body to relieve the pressure from the power button that's fixing the issue for you.You need to

You need to go watch the videos of people already posted in this thread if you don’t think the case and power button is not a thing

Laying the phone flat on table without car, the issue is the same. Holding it in the hand without case issue is gone.

if you put it in a case, and put a finger on the camera linse, while clicking the camera button, it works.
So if you touch somewhere on the back at the same time as the camera button, it works. So it must be some kind of static electricity connection.

I can assure you it's not the power button. Again, my case has a cutout for the power button...it is in no way touching the power button and I'm having the issue. I'm sure the people in the videos are pulling the case away from the power button and thereby touching the phone and that's what's fixing it for them - by touching the side of the phone they're fixing the grounding issue.

For what it's worth I'm using a ESR case and screen protector and haven't seen this issue at all. Note that I'm running the latest 14.3 dev seed, so whatever issue everyone here is dealing with may be fixed in that build.

Yes I agree. It’s if your touching the phone. Conductivity issue

Happened on 14.1

This article is missing the main suspect of the lock screen problem..screen protector & case. 🤦🏻‍

My mini functions fine without a screen protector but with a case.

Do you have small fingers or touch your screen delicately? When I use my pinky or barely touch the screen with my index finger it seems fine, but when I use my thumb to mash the screen it just won’t work

Using a Torras glass screen protector with a Diaclara liq. silicone case with my mini (ios 14.2)...

...coming from an 8, so a new experience (no knowing of how things are supposed to function/react).

[edit]

After a long sleep to wake, I now understand:

Rght after wake, but before the swipe-up bar identifies itself is when lower display controls are not immediately responsive.

Waiting half a second, the following is still true:]

I can easily swipe-up from the lock screen. Torch and Cam buttons need a definite “push” to open.

I use an alph/num passcode, and can easily navigate the keyboard to a successful unlock/swipe-up.

All with just touching sil case, and not plugged in.

Same issue here. The worst part, is clicking on a notification on the Lock Screen and literally nothing happens. Seems to be plenty of issues for me with this phone.

Ive paired my Apple Watch to the new phone no problem, but I can’t add my debit card to the watch for Apple Pay. If I remove my card from my phone, I can then add it to the watch. It’s either on one device or the other, and won’t let me have the card on both devices. Any ideas?

This is the same issue for me. If I use my thumb it won’t work at all. If I use my index finger to input the code or press the flashlight button it works fine.
It also works if I use the tip of my thumb. Very strange.
I have an ESR screen protector and a Peel case that has cutouts for the volume and power buttons.

This thread should have a poll something like..

Is your iPhone 12 mini experiencing lock screen sensitivity issue:

1. Only with case
2. Only with screen protector
3. Both with screen protector & case
4. No screen protector & no case but with issues
5. No issues at all
