I thought the idea if the mini was being small, just ditch the cases and use a gsp for the front till Apple sort it.

This thread should have a poll something like..

Is your iPhone 12 mini experiencing lock screen sensitivity issue:

1. Only with case
2. Only with screen protector
3. Both with screen protector & case
4. No screen protector & no case but with issues
5. No issues at all

or at least a requirement for anybody posting saying they do or don’t have the issue 🙂

Are there any YT videos on this issue?

Video 1: without case and with glass the error appears when I put phone e.g. on the table (the Iphone back has to be completely covered by something)

Video 2: with case and with glass the error appears all the time

Video 3: with case and with glass the error DOES NOT APPEAR when the phone is charging

iPhone 12 mini here and same issues. But I think it will be fix by software update. Why?
- Doesn't appear when unlock
- Only appear when I use my thumb

I think the Lock Screen is not optimized for 5.4 inches by software bug. Try my little finger, everything work fine in Lock Screen. With my big thumb -> not responding.
I think there is an issue why big fingers when iOS don't know if he need to swipe up or respond to an action (torch, respond to call...)
Try little fingers, you will see how it works.
And I think protective screens make harder to iOS to recognize.

So I think don't worry, just software not hardware. I'm sure we'll see next week iOS 14.2.1 resolving this issue :).

Just got my second set of screen protectors (iCarez and Floveme) and the issue remains. It works when the Apple leather case is not on or when it’s on and charging. Otherwise I cannot swipe up. This indicates it’s a software issue to me.

If my screen gets ruined I expect Apple to replace my device. I have AppleCare anyway.

Do you have small fingers or touch your screen delicately? When I use my pinky or barely touch the screen with my index finger it seems fine, but when I use my thumb to mash the screen it just won’t work
Nope - I’m 6’ tall and have hands fitting for someone my height, and I haven’t changed how I unlock my phone: basically just jab my finger at the bottom of the screen and swipe.

Have just spent the best part of an hour on a chat session with Apple. it ended on the note of ‘you have 14 days to return it’. Not good...

Like everyone else have tried a number of protectors, hard reset the phone, different case combinations and none work as they should.

I'm going to wait a week, and see how apple responds.

* If no response within 13 days (return window), just going to return it on the 14th day.
* If they patch it with a software update, will keep the phone.
* If they say it's a hardware issue and to RMA, will keep the phone and replace it.

Hi all

when I take it out of the case, it responds fine

Lol well that gives me hope that it’s only isolated to a small portion of devices

This is getting weirder by the minute. It is true that if use the tip of my fingers it works fine, so as somebody pointed out in a prior post, it might be that the screen in lock mode is not optimized for 5.4 inches. A bug that could be resolved with an update.

In any case, I have the right for a refund until the 8th January, so I am going to wait a little bit and see how this unveils. If it does not look good towards the end of next week I‘ll take the refund and happy days.

Definitely seems to be a grounding issue. My Lock Screen works fine when I’m plugged in. Hopefully they can get a fix out ASAP. I’m also going to try a non-glass screen protector to see if that’ll help too

How can Apple fix a grounding issue through an iOS update? Makes no sense.

Either it’s a software issue or a grounding issue. Can’t be both.

IMO this might be a software issue. The charging thing will be incidental, and not grounding related.

For what it's worth I'm using a ESR case and screen protector and haven't seen this issue at all. Note that I'm running the latest 14.3 dev seed, so whatever issue everyone here is dealing with may be fixed in that build.
On 14.1 with a case and also don’t have an issue

It could be a software issue in response to the grounding. I.E. the grounding is working as expected, but the software is not responding properly.

iOS 14.2 issue I'm sure.
My iPhone 12 mini was shipped with iOS 14.1. But I update as soon as I set up it.
Curious to know if same issues with both screen protector & case BUT on iOS 14.1. Anybody?

Can‘t comment on that. I have no idea if any such checkers are built into smartphones.

Such issues with iPad Pros never got corrected. But it seems every single Mini owner has thiS issue, so hopefully software based.

iPad Pros had similar issues that were never fixed?

No issues with a case and no screen protector. Running 14.1 software. Tried laying the phone flat on a table with no case, still works fine. Tried with my whole thumb pressed flat on the screen, still works fine. Haven’t seen a single touch issue on the lock screen
