Same problem here... However, here's my temporary fix. It could be just me, but it also seems that this fix made 4G much faster, too!

A temporary work around that bypasses Lock Screen swipe

Settings > Accessibility > Back Tap > toggle on > set to home

From Lock Screen double tap the back of your case, and it will take you directly to Home Screen with no swiping involved.

If you are prompted with the passcode screen, simply double tap the back of your case and your passcode will automatically be inputted and send you to Home Screen.

With this work around, you shouldn’t need to use tin foil on the side of the case or touch the camera circles.
You my friend is a life saver.. I’ve already had this setting enabled but never thought to use it this way.

Does rest seating the phone using iTunes and a computer fix the issue as I have been advised to do this by apple Senior Adviser?

To be fair, I was trying to figure it out late last night and couldn’t seem to get it right. This morning, I looked on Reddit and found someone had beat me to the punch as it were, and that is when I posted this procedure here.

By not perfect, does that mean it still happens but not as much?

The back tap method works every time. How does the beta compare?
I was using the back tap method but found it annoying and not natural. I prefer the 14.3 update. That works for unlocking 99.9 percent of the time

This video shows the keypad not responding when on a call. Is anyone else experiencing this also?

Initially experienced the lock screen touch problem yesterday too. Fitted a Belkin Ultraglass screen Protector to my 12 Mini straight out the box (before setting up the phone) & also put the phone in my new Apple leather case. Immediately noticed the delayed response when swiping up on the Lock Screen. Thought the problem might be related to the fact that my leather case is not 'open' at the rear of the case (unlike the 'open' case I had been using on my X). I was disappointed, but a few hours later, got round to updating from iOS 14.1 to 14.2 & found that once updated to 14.2, the problem was resolved (now able to successfully swipe up, first time, each time).

Apologies, I was admittedly premature in posting my feedback yesterday; thought the problem was only about being able to swipe up on the Lock Screen. After posting 'all was OK once on 14.2', I quickly noticed that the Flashlight/Torch & Camera button were not responding to 'normal' finger press (can get to work by using the very tip of my finger, but that is not really a normal way to interact with the phone). Keen to hear from those who have updated to 14.3 Beta if 14.3 resolves 'Swipe Up' and the problem with Flashlight/Torch & Camera buttons

As annoying as it is, returning the device and going for another iPhone model seems extreme, especially when everything else is near on perfect. Just remove the screen protector for the time being?!

Just wait and see what happens in the next week, I’m sure Apple will acknowledge and fix the issue.
When it hinders things like answering the phone from the lock screen, that’s kind of a big deal and some people can’t have that happen on their phone.

Update. The issue seems to have gone away completely with iOS 14.3. Only had the lock screen stick once. But that was when the phone turned on from updating
So many others have said 14.3 didn’t help. You’ve even backed off of this now saying it’s almost perfect. I would love to know that you’re right, but I can’t help but worry there’s a little placebo effect going on.

Yes, just noticed that after answering a call the keypad is useless just like the rest of the lock screen :(
