14.3 did not fix it for me. I thought it helped at first, but I think I am just getting used to using the tip of my thumb.

We probably all need to go to Twitter as well. If it starts gaining traction on social media, that tends to get companies’ attention a bit quicker.

When it hinders things like answering the phone from the lock screen, that’s kind of a big deal and some people can’t have that happen on their phone.

He's only saying...don't use screen protector/case for now until a fix from :apple:

Don't use a case or screen protector. The phone works fine without it.

I know, and for some that’s probably fine. People just shouldn’t *have* to do that. What if someone works in construction for example... not having that protection immediately puts their phone at risk.

So just use the phone without a screen protector?! I wouldn’t want to sacrifice the rest of the device and settle for something I didn’t actually want for something that is clearly going to be fixed...

Once the issue is resolved, then apply a screen protector.

Definitely not worth the hassle of returning, ordering something else etc.

If someone works in construction like you gave an example of, a screen protector is going to do nothing. You should be using a more robust case anyway if it’s likely to get damaged or just take out Apple Care. That’s why it exists.

I’m saying temporarily use a different case or no screen protector, or just touch the camera lens with your finger when unlocking, then it works.

I’m not sure how a screen protector would be useless. But either way...

We can go back and forth all day with specific scenarios that fit what we want to communicate. The fact is this is a minor nuisance to some and a major issue to others, and it shouldn’t be an issue at all. I’m also not too entitled to think a phone won’t have any issues upon release. But this seems like an obvious one and a big one for some people.

Wow. I was about to exchange my 12 Mini which would have been a major pain. I’m somewhat relieved to see this is a real issue for others but disappointed that there’s no fix. I have a regular film screen protector (not glass) on my 12 mini with an otterbox defender. There’s no way I’m using it without a case or screen protector so I’ll wait for news on this. Meanwhile, I suggest others actually report this directly to Apple.

I’m not going to remove my 49€ screen protector to solve a problem that apple should have correct before release their device. The screen protector is good for trash if I do so...

Keep under one’s hard hat! There is webbing to jeer rig it to hold i! Better then a case.

Apart from I had the problem with the phone straight out the box before I'd even put a case on it and no screen protector.
I almost couldn't even get the phone set up, it took several minutes of swiping up, using different amounts of pressure and speed before it would respond so I could exit the language selection screen.
That's ridiculous.
And it didn't improve much after that.
There's no way I'm prepared to put up with that performance everytime I simply want to unlock my phone, never mind anything else.
It sounds like I'm pretty unlucky though in that it seems to be a problem with the one I got regardless of a case being on it etc, plus the accessibility features I need to use made it worse I think.
If Apple had already come out and said they're aware of the issue and a fix is coming definitely within a couple days, I might have been prepared to hang on to it. But that's not the case and its a lot of money for me to have spent on something that for me isn't currently fit for purpose.

Had this issue this morning. I use mine without a case or screen protector. My wife was calling and I couldn’t pick up straight out of pocket screen wouldn’t not respond. Had to touch and hold to get it going then I could pick up. Think it’s software related and hoping another update soon will fix it.

look i know everyone is annoyed but apple will get this fixed...probably by thurs. im sure they are gathering data over the weekend and will have their engineers work on a patch when they come into work tomorrow.

is it on everything single iPhone 12 mini with a case?
Seems that way, except people with smaller fingers may not notice it at all. My sisters phone seemed perfectly fine for her, but when I tried to use her phone it started doing the same thing for me that mine is doing. I have hotdog fingers apparently.

Edit: if you’re using both a screen protector and a case.

I am already getting used to putting my pinky in the charging hole while unlocking, that solves it for now 😆 Still hope there is a better fix soon.

not im...some have...defect screen lot factory...not software...every body look date factory maybe lot same. mine ok not problem...kaa:)
Judging by your profile pic you’re a woman, so you probably have smaller fingertips than the users that are having this problem. My sister has smaller fingers so she doesn’t have this problem. I told her to try mashing her thumb on the screen as wide as possible and it started doing the same thing for her.

And likewise if I use my pinky or barely touch the tip of my other fingers to the screen it registers touch input just fine.

You can instead touch the camera rings with your index finger while unlocking since it’s easier to access. I kind of wish someone would sticky this and the other solutions somehow so people have options to try to get by until a fix is released

Do you have more information about which factory lot have the defect and how to identify the faulty device?

My 12 mini should arrive tomorrow, ESR screen protector already waits for install, but in this situation I'm really considering to return it back.

Is there anyone who is using case+gp and has no problem with the 12 mini?

That's extremely important to know: people who don't have the issue to discern between a hardware and software issue.
For this to be a software issue everyone should be experiencing the same under the same conditions: unresponsive display when on case that is not made of metal and a screen protector.
