I love my iPhone12 mini. I guess I'm in the minority. I think if they had put a telephoto lens on it (instead of wide angle), it might have appealed to more people.
Ooof of course not. The iPhone mini is a failure because of its tiny, small screen size. Most rational people hate small screens because content appear so cramped and it is not immersive for movies, games etc. at all.

Haven’t seen anyone with one — of course I’m not out much. But there’s been little to no Apple promotion of the phone since its release.

Assuming the negative reviews of the battery life probably deterred some buyers.
Well, I had the SE 2016, terrible battery, needed a battery sleve to get thru the day.
Followed by the SE 2020. Bigger screen but MUCH bigger phone but did the job. Battery still terrible.
Now the mini. Ok, missing touch ID, thats........not so good. But the screen is great, the phone is smaller then the SE (with significant bigger screen) and the battery easily gets you thru the day, in dark mode (thanks to the OLED display) thru 2 days if it has to.
I habe no idea where bad battery reports come from. Its just not the case.
The mini is without competition, there is no phone, from any company, making a phone that fast, that small and that good, full flagship tech in a, for today at least, small package.
And 5% are still millions of phones.
The mini is going to get at least 5 years support. A lot can happen in 5 years.

"iPhone 12 Mini Reportedly Accounted for Only 5% of Sales in First Half of January" - it might be because of the fact that the iPhone mini (despite it is called mini) is still too big and too heavy compared to the original iPhone SE (20% heavier than SE). If it was smaller and lighter, the sales figures would be certainly much, much higher.

not if apple wants to save money! it wouldn't be.
Apple is not going to cancel it after one year. That would be idiotic, Apple’s always played the long-term game and it’s what they’ve always one and are the best at. Maybe not a lot of people need to upgrade their phones right now, so yes it was a great year for many, but not for 100% of the population. So maybe after another year or two the mini all of a sudden will be the big buyer because those people are in need of an upgrade.

My two reservations with buying an iPhone 12 mini.

1. I want more battery life. Give me a thicker phone with a bigger battery.

2. I don't want to spend that much. I'm a cheapskate. I am still using the original SE that I got for $250.

It will still be my next phone though probably. I love the form factor of it.

Common sense would dictate that the mini is not designed for heavy media consumption or gaming. Its primary use is as an extremely portable yet high-powered smartphone.

It's a no-brainer for anyone consuming media or spending their days scrolling social media or just using is at their primary digital device to go for the max. I went from a max to mini and could not be happier. I use my iPad, iMac, macbook etc for those things.

The mini reminds me of what it was like to be able to fit a tiny GSM handset in my pocket and not be glued to the screen. It's extremely liberating actually.

For me it's the slightly underwhelming battery that's holding me back.

Last week purchased: iPhone Xr instead of 11

Why not 11 ?
The stock color yellow, no tq.

Why not SE ?
Scare of low battery like iphone 7

Why not 12?
There's no 5G coverage and kinda waste money and most internet from fibre optic 100mbps

Work at home instead travel make me thinking it worth to buy latest while using XR seem pretty smooth and i don't take picture at home :( ..
** Travel ban limited area 10 km ahead only here.

For iPhone 13 I guess they'll combine SE and Mini back into one phone rather than have two (a lower spec and higher spec one). Market just isn't there outside these forums.

Genius way to make the most popular model more expensive. You can be 100% sure that they're going to keep making this phone to fill this price slot.

The iPhone 12 mini, the smallest variant in the iPhone 12 lineup, reportedly accounted for only 5% of sales for the entire 2020 iPhone series in the first half of January in the United States, according to Counterpoint Research cited by Reuters.

Counterpoint Research indicates that handsets over 6 inches such as the iPhone 12, 12 Pro, and 12 Pro Max outperformed smaller models such as the 5.4-inch iPhone 12 mini for the start of this year. The relatively low sales for the 12 mini is expected to be due to a trend in the overall market where consumers are veering away from smaller displays and opting for larger, more immersive smartphone sizes.

Reports of lackluster iPhone 12 mini sales began emerging in early January, and last week JP Morgan analyst William Yang stated in a note seen by AppleInsider that weak demand for the model could result in Apple cutting production entirely in the second quarter of 2021 to allow it to sell through its existing supplies.

Last month Apple reported its quarterly earnings for the first time following the launch of the iPhone 12 in October. While Apple did not disclose specific sales figures for each of the models in the lineup, the company did report $65.60 billion in revenue for its iPhone business alone, a new quarterly record.

Love my Mini. If Apple stops making small ones then might buy another from the last remaining stocks in a year or two so as to see me through to when small phones become popular again.
Would love a lower cost version with a single lens. Have no need for a camera too much, but love well-built phones.

Apple is absolutely playing the long game with the mini. They didn't spend millions on designing and tooling production to kill it in a year. Who do you think they are, Samsung?

The mini will eventually become the SE-price level phone in 3 years, the same way the 6.1" screen size on the XR eventually became the default size going forward. Product development is about short and long-term planning, not lurching based on random analyst reports.

Anyone dealing with tons of overheating issues with the iPhone mini? My phone tends to get the overheat notifications over heavy use of the gps running. I’m fixing to try to get this phone warranted because it’s starting to annoy me

I think in addition to the much higher price over the SE, the incorrect “poor battery life” narrative and the inability to try the phone live have contributed most to the relatively low sales of the mini. To me, my iPhone 12 Mini has been the best phone ever, it’s faster than my 2016 core i7 MacBook Pro when web browsing and never lasts less than a full day (6 am - 11 pm) on a full battery, sometimes up to 2 days, and it takes amazing pictures. It sounds counterintuitive, but should Apple include a telephoto lens or additional Touch ID, I might be compelled to upgrade to the 13 mini, rather than keep it for 7 years like my 5s. Just because the 12 mini makes me want even more, crammed into the awesomely small package with a bigger screen even than the SE. It’s that good.

the price is a problem on the mini, why? the difference between a mini to a normal 12 is $100, I bet a lot people say "for just $100 I get a bigger one".

I love the mini, beside the 4 and original SE is the best phone ever.

I hope they don't cancel the mini and they more affordable.

I love my iPhone 12 mini. It would really suck if they stopped making small phones again for a few years or even just never again. I went up to the X for a year after my SE got a little too long in the tooth and it was definitely a little too big. The mini is a great size for me and I'd like to keep buying them.

I tried the mini and wanted to like it but my eyes aren't the best and I just couldn't see well enough to enjoy it. loved the size just didn't work for me.

Why would you need "high-power" if you are not going to do heavy media consumption or gaming - i.e. if you are only going to use it to make phone calls and quick, lightweight tasks?
You can just use an older, smaller iPhone and you wouldnt need the A14 at all.

Some people are being idiots by criticizing the MINI. It's a proof that there are still many people prefer a 5.4’ display and without forcing everyone to wear an XXL outfit.

"Most rational people" don't play games or watch movies on a phone. The mini is not intended as a primary device. You clearly look at your phone as a primary device.
