My wife got one the other day and I have to say, I love it. Much prefer it in size to my 12 Pro but I wanted the lidar sensor and proRAW for work

Imagine they had introduced the 5.4" as the iPhone 12, and the 6.1" as the iPhone 12 max. Most people would have bought the 5.4" because they just want the "regular" iphone.
And most people are buying the regular 6.1” 12 because they are being told by everyone that the smaller one has terrible battery life..... On the contrary, my 12 mini battery life routinely exceeds that of the pixel 5 I had before this....

Your empathy is quite low.

I wear slim/skinny jeans because I'm fashionable. This makes putting my XR In my pocket very uncomfortable.

I'm not going to use my Macbook while laying on the couch or bed. LOL.
Get an iPad already. I don't have much empathy for nonsensical arguments. Just accept the phone sold terribly.

I love my 12 mini but the move was not without some reservations.

From the moment I unboxed it, turned it on and set it up, I just loved it as much as I could love an inanimate object. But then I had to compare it to my iPhone XS Max side by side, then the feeling of compromises started setting in and I flipped back to using my XS Max. I even called Apple and arranged a return.

I forced myself to flip back one more time before returning the phone and all the thoughts that went into WHY I made the decision when I pulled the trigger to initially order it came flooding in and it was done.

I love my 12 mini and every time I go away from my house and have to use it, I couldn't be more happy that I resisted the urge to keep the Max.

The timing of the mini release was really bad also, just a couple of months after the SE2 and coming after the 6,1. Probably it wouldn’t change too much the things but I think that it did not help on the numbers
You might be right on that. I wondered why they would advertise a new iPhone lineup but then release only two models first and then wait over a month to release the others. I suspect that if the mini had been in the first wave, it would have sold a bit more. Yes, it's a niche product these days. But I'm really glad Apple made it and I still love mine. I don't understand all the battery complaints; mine can easily go two days on a charge with moderate use.

The SE is killing the Mini sales. It's nearly half the price and not much larger. People in general don't care about 5G or OLED screens. And Touch ID right now is better during a pandemic that requires us to wear masks.
They should never have bothered with OLED on the mini. If people buying the mini aren't watching much content, then it doesn't make sense to invest in such an expensive premium screen tech. They should of stuck an LCD on the mini and cut the price.

So this guy thinks I should get an iPad because I want a bigger screen while I'm at home. Then he thinks the Mini should sell better in a pandemic because people want a smaller screen while they're at home.

Never go into business because your common sense is nonexistent.

Once people start moving again and not staying indoors all day I think more people will more appreciate the size of a smaller phone.

My mini iPhone is on my wrist. Could use a bit more battery, but otherwise it keeps me in contact with my peeps

I love my iPhone12 mini. I guess I'm in the minority. I think if they had put a telephoto lens on it (instead of wide angle), it might have appealed to more people.
People who say they want a smaller phone generally mean they want a phone that cost $299 for not much compromise as the Pro version. They don’t care as much it’s actually going to be smaller, their primary concern is to have a smaller price tag. The mini didn’t have a smaller price tag.

The point is that when people are at home and have access to iPads, laptops and big screen TVS, they aren't going to be watching movies on 6 inch phones. Why would I invest over 1000 on a pro max to watch movies at home when an Ipad is 400 and has a much larger display? The advantage of a big screen always has been a big display in your pocket. Its time to stop blaming the pandemic and accept you hold a minority position and that your phone just isn't doing very well.

I'd do a lot better in business than you, that's for sure. Half of macrumours, yourself included probably, were clamoring on months ago that the mini would be the best selling device and showing arrogance to anyone who disagreed. I always knew it would be a poor seller.

That's not true. People who say they want a smaller phone want a smaller phone. Be it a flagship or an entry level phone, people cross all categories when it comes to a preference like that.

iPhone mini was primarily released as a new product, but also served a secondary purpose: to justify boosting the price of all other iPhone models above it, as it is now the “base” model. I hope Apple sees the value in continuing to offer a smaller model — not everyone wants a jumbo phone — but if not, I hope they will save the design for a future iPhone SE. Many of us felt the 12 mini was what the SE2 should have been.

Completely unsupported personal theory based solely on my small sample of friends who also cling to their small phones and thus a totally useless theory in any real way 😂 : The same people who are interested in small phones also want headphone jacks and other useful features such as touch ID and are less willing to compromise on this than other persons might be. I know several persons who, like me, simply don't want to compromise regarding the features we want until we are absolutely forced to do so. I would have snatched up an iPhone Mini right away to replace my SE, but it only matches one of my three desired criteria; size. So it would be a downgrade for me. (On the other hand, aging eyes will, like many others, eventually force me to a larger phone I'm sure, but hopefully not for at least another decade.)

The iPhone 12 mini is the size iPhone I want but I've come to realize I need an iPhone with a bigger battery. Sorry iPhone mini :-(

I'm sorry. You're unbelievably bad at logic and common sense.

Phone usage has increased by 70% since the pandemic. People are not using their cell phones less because they have access to bigger devices. They're using their cell phones far more.

Go ahead. Make up more dumb theories on why people want a smaller phone while locked at home.

If I knew what I know today, I'd have bought the Mini instead of the 12 Pro back in October.
Smartphones today are just too big.

I jumped from the 11 Pro to the 12 mini, size is a huge factor for myself and for most people I know who aren't into tech. I have screens around me all day, all the time, everywhere. There is no point in having a large screen on a phone if I don't have to - I look at my watch more than that screen anyway. Going back to not even knowing for sure if my phone is in my pocket was a huge plus. If someone offered a phone with literally no screen but had all of the same functions as a hotspot and carplay and whatnot but was even smaller than this, I'd probably even buy that instead of the mini. All of this may seem like the words of a luddite but it's quite the opposite.

This goes back a couple of decades, to the early mockups of a Bluetooth PAN, but the end goal for a wearables market is that the phone almost never comes out of your pocket....and if we eventually have AR glasses, shrinking all of the functions down to just the watch would make sense. This is still at least a decade away.

I hope they don’t cancel it. I will be upgrading from my X to the mini this September. Guaranteed.
