12 Mini adoption always was going to be a bit of a slow burn, between the late introduction and the new place in the lineup. Sure, it would be an easier sell if it was $100 less, but there are a lot of people who want a pocket-sized phone with advanced features. I got my gf one for Xmas, and pretty much all of her friends want one now (they didn’t even know that such a thing existed before seeing hers).

Personally, the mini isn't for me, since I watch a lot of YouTube videos on my device. Even if the battery life was on par with the Max, I still wouldn't get the Mini due to the smaller screen.

But you can expect them to pack in the same tech as in the larger iPhones and sell it for much less?
SE came out last year with the same chip as the 11's and 11 Pro's and the camera was decent for $399 - compared to 11 at $699.
I think $499 or even $549 is more reasonable. This should of been the new SE rather than that 8 bastard child of a phone lol

I went from an iPhone 11 Pro Max to an iPhone 12 Mini. I love the size and can't see ever going back to a larger device.

I haven't had an issue with battery life, but I've also made a conscious effort to drastically reduce the amount of time I waste staring at my phone. The only thing I miss from the Pro is the camera.

I knew it! It used to be so fashionable to go around tirelessly complaining that Apple needs to make smaller phones, but this proves it — nobody actually wants that.
That’s not true. At all.
I very much want a smaller phone and my wife loves her mini. I ended up going with the pro for the camera features but if the mini had these camera features I wouldn’t have hesitated.
mans im sure I’m not alone. Plenty of people want a smaller phone, but prioritize camera quality.

If the mini was at a realistic price point (SE or a little more) it would sell like hotcakes. You can't make a smaller phone with bad battery life and expect to pay last year's standard iPhone price.
I think it has a very realistic price point. In the end, it’s a high end phone, with smaller screen and meh battery life (not that terrible, better than the SE in fact). We could argue that the rest have more unrealistic price points. Assume that the reason why it doesn’t sell is simple: screen size.

This doesn't really prove anything. With the mini being released after the initial offering from Apple, it makes sense that sales would be down, especially over the holidays. Apple hasn't really promoted the mini in any meaningful way. A lot of people probably don't even know a new mini exist (outside of forums like this). Over a longer time frame, I think sales for the mini will pick up.
There's giant billboards all over my city showcasing both the Max and the Mini.

Looking at this wrong. The Mini served it's purpose honestly, and that's what Apple wanted. Remember the Mini actually replaced the iPhone 11 in terms of pricing tiers. This put the iPhone 12 100$ more, meaning more profit for Apple, thus justifying the price hike by the Mini's existence. Now if you look at this as the absolute numbers, 6% of 1,000,000 is still 60,000. Percentages are misleading, and to say that no one wants the mini, when there might be at least 60,000 people out there who want it (just used 1,000,000 as an arbitrary numerical example, because I'm sure Apple sold at least 1,000,000 iPhone models in that time period).

$700 for a mini
$400 for an SE that’s only .25” bigger

While the mini is more feature packed, many people will be put off by the pricing.
Don’t forget the screen, camera, fresher look. More than just a quarter inch in size.

I totally agree. Complaining about HomePod Mini's not being battery powered and having a permanent power cord was almost as fashionable. And gave the "Apple needs smaller phones" a good competitive run.

Dammit people, buy more minis! I love mine and hope it sticks around for generations to come.

Indeed. Unless you have freakishly small hands this form factor makes zero sense.
I'm a 6' tall male with average to above average hand size for my height. I came from an iPhone Xs and couldn't be happier. I don't have to bother with reachability for one hand use and it fits cofortably in pants pockets.

Personally I would have paid the same price as an iPhone 12 for it. I was just happy it had all the same features rather than a budget model with things cut out.

I must be the only person that doesn't have battery life issues with the 12 mini. Lasts me all day everyday (and I am an absolute interwebs fiend). Do people want more than that?
Same here, I used it the other day for tethered internet on my work laptop for about 2-3 hours plus a normal full day of use and made it on a single charge.

Be careful about comparisons and hasty conclusions. If it were a phone from almost any other manufacturer, the mini would be a hit. And it is likely still very profitable for Apple--probably more profitable than many other non-iPhone products that are considered successful. Not everything has to be a best-seller...especially not at the scale of the most successful product...um...ever?

At around 200 million iPhones a year sold, about 90% current year models, that would be about 10 million Minis ultimately. Probably a bit less because there will always be a lower priced older model.

iPhone X was introduced late in November and it sold just fine. Ya'll love coming up with excuses.

But i got a mini for every person in my family of 4 for $700. Spent ~ $175 each for iPhone 8 to trade in. Yes, I’m stuck with my carrier for 2 years but they are the cheapest by far and I’ve been with them for 10 years. Don’t see moving anytime soon.

Not if you want to make some money for your shareholders.
But yeah personally I like your socialist approach to production.
Unfortunately, capitalism is still on top :/

Forums and reddit love small phones, but the actual world doesnt.
Tech geeks have a really tough time understanding that their needs are generally never representative of the general public's needs. They can't see that people who frequent these websites are a small subset of the population.

People complained about not having a 12 inch MacBook after the machine developed by IBM Japan went away but the 12 inch MacBook hasn't sold so well. If it had better processors, maybe it could have but it seems that people just like to complain.
