I’m in the same boat as everyone here. Launch day 12 pro max and battery health is at 90%. Don’t know if anyone else remembers but I read back before the iPhone 12 release that apple was rumored to use cheaper batteries. This was to offset the 5g modem and also then removing the power brick. Does anyone else think this might be true???
I remember that! Here's the article you mentioned;

Just noticed that mine dropped again just recently. It’s now at 93%. I have a feeling I’ll be at 90% at the one year old point

Since the battery is crapping already, I just decided to go ahead and install iOS 15 Public Beta. Maybe it’ll just hasten my battery replacement.

Since I last posted it's gone down 3%. According to Apple the battery is designed to retain up to 80% of its original capacity at 500 cycles. At the current rate i'm estimating the battery will be at or below 80% around 200 cycles.

iOS Battery Settings - Capacity 93%
coconutBattery - Capacity 91% - 73 Cycles.

Current
iOS Battery Settings - Capacity 90%
coconutBattery - Capacity 90% - 89 Cycles.

Our two phones:

iPhone 12 Pro (Nov2020) - 87% - 221 cycles
iPhone XS Max (Oct 2018) - 88% - 812 cycles

I have AC+ so I'm not too worried for now. But the 12 is so good that I was really hoping to make it a long term phone...

Clearly, too many people are having the same issue so it's not an isolated problem. Apple needs to address this before some lawyer does.

Did you charge with 20W or 5W? I think this is why you end up have less battery health in the 12 Pro

Which one damages batteries? 5w or 20w?

On both XS Max and 12 Pro I always used 10w at home and a lighter adapter in the car. I only recently started using MagSafe but even that is on a 10w adapter.

Eighty-eight percent after 812 cycles is great. I thought my X was faring well at ~85% after 746 cycles.

Looks like iOS 14.7 is giving me better battery life than 14.6 and 14.5 this time around on the span of 10 days. Eeking out 9h SOT and some YT plus Spotify streams

I recall reading this. Was hoping at the time ''oh, how bad could it be?"
 (Clearly I, and many others now know how bad it is.)

The drain I had yesterday, 100% - 56% in just 2 hours of extremely minimal use is just beyond pathetic.

This morning I listened to a Podcast for just about an hour and my battery dropped from 97 to 56. Come on, what the heck?
Same exact drain for me yesterday, but in 2 hours. I took a few photos, no more than 2, 3 min of video. It was in my pocket the rest of the time. *For me, taking videos just drains the phone down so insanely fast.

This whole thing makes a lot more sense now.
Looks like they *may* have done this on Apple Watch series 6 as well. Check out the Apple Watch threads on battery issues.

Hi all,

iphone 12 pro max - purchased in october 2020.
Battery cycle count - 167.
92% today.

i've started using backbone one game controller and play a lot for the last 2 months. Charging sometimes 2 times per day.

the battery dropped in those months for about 3-4%.

using wireless Nomad station and leave over night always.

usually i get 6+ Screen on time. Sometimes with double charge - 12-14 hours a day. I am a heavy user.

my two year iphone 11 pro max has 88% now.
You mean you purcahsed in November? 12 Pro max wasn’t released on October.

iPhone 12 Pro max received on launch day. 95% capacity 137 cycles. Medium user.

I guess now it don’t matter what iOS 14 version you are on. My 12 Pro Max is still in the version it was shipped with 14.1, and I’m now down to 94% capacity. I’m not sure of the charge cycles. I’ll get a battery change once I start to notice a drastic degradation in everyday battery life. For right now I’m fine.

SMH. I believe it. My Series 4 has a better battery health compared to my 12 PM

I use an iPhone SE 2 but after some fresh ipsw install my battery drops down to health 93% in combination with ios 14.6 now ios 15 its a horrible experience how fast my battery is draining. I am wondering because before i made the fresh install everything seems to be fine. 179 cycles 93%
20 minutes of iphone use it cost me between 4-8 % battery :(

Got my phone back from apple. They had it for more than a week. All they did was diagnostics on it. They said they couldn’t replicate the problem. I asked them to replace the battery and wanted to pay for it but they didn’t do it. Guess Ill wait until my battery is at 79% and then get it replaced under warranty.

I’m not understanding why Apple won’t let people replace their battery if the are willing to pay for the service. WTH!
