My launch day 12 PRO sat at 99% for a while and then started dropping about 1%/week for the last 7 weeks, and battery life seemed to drop. After many chats and a call with a "Senior Advisor", was told to go get the battery replaced at the Apple Store. I asked three times if they could guarantee it would be replaced if I went to the store. Was told yes, and that they would put it in the case notes.

Of course once I got to the store the "Genius" said that they could replace it... for $69. That the phone/online reps don't know how stores worked. I asked him if Apple owned the store or it was a franchise, which of course everyone knew it was an Apple Store. I told him to go ask his manager. They made me wait 20 minutes until he came back to say the manager had made a "one-time exception". The manager also passed-by the table, and in front of me told the Genius that "this is his lucky day" (referring to me), "because he had like 12 people waiting........".

Even though I got a new battery, seems like Apple Customer Service has gone down, and they are more concerned with maximizing profits!

This sounds so similar to my story and exactly my reaction. I said "Is Apple online and Apple store not one company and if so, should they not take the same position regardless of where the customer interacts"? The manager knew I set up a loaded question to really ask my other question which is, "why don't you stand behind what another Apple channel has already approved?" I dropped a bit of "is this what you call exceptional customer experience?" He changed his tone quickly, I showed him my chat and then he approved a full replacement of the device.

For those who were successful in getting a free replacement phone or battery, what did you say when chatting to finally convince them to send a new phone or replacement battery?

I would do this over the phone/chat, see reply #105 and have them mail it to you.

What if this is a calibration mistake on the battery?

Low battery health, but low cycle count? That makes no sense… of course they could be defective

But a huge part of me does not want to send in my iPhone for repair because of the risk of reducing water resistance, dirtying up the internals; and they’ll remove my screen protector, wipe it down with isopropyl alcohol ruining the oleophobic coating, and might ding my stainless steel finish. Yes, some of these things have happened to me already.

Im hoping this is a bug in the battery software

I agree I also think this could be a software issue and not a hardware issue since so many of us are reporting the same issue.

So what are the chances of this being a similar issue that was fixed by Apple using a recalibration tool for battery health on the iPhone 11 models that was released in iOS 14.5?

I don’t know about affected iPhone 11 Pro users who had a low battery health that was inaccurate. But if they did have an inaccurate battery health percentage, was coconutbattery also inaccurate for them too?

My battery health started falling around the same time I noticed optimised charging had stopped working. I’ve never managed to get optimised charging working again and my overall better health continues to decline.

AFAIK, if replacements are refurbished then they reuse parts but use a new outer shell and battery only.
Nah im convinced that my replacement is brand new ... they just plug it into their machine and change the model prefix with 'N' instead of leaving it a 'M" Also the replacement had zero charges and also the unit according to 3utool wasn't opened or have any parts replaced.

I look at this post ) https://forums.macrumors.com/threads/battery-issues-on-ios-14-6-iphone-11-pro.2297859/ ) for the 11, 11 Pros and I guess it did the recalibration for those models.

"After 14.5 the battery was recalibrated automatically, and jumped ‘magically’ from 85 to 90%, then after some cycles it is now on 94% of the original capacity."

(Not a fan ofsome of the other oddities this personis now having after 14.6. - "heating up, apps constantly running in background, etc" I did have Mail app constantly running on my 12 PM after 14.6, a hard reboot fixed that annoyance.

If...IF...that is the problem - and I'm not sure it is. Ugh, do we all have to wait a year before a fix?
I wish Apple knows of this % health drain issue...and maybe they do and just address the darn problem already. The hoops many of us having to jump through to get satisfaction of a very expensive device with no ques. a problem is a bunch of nonsense. Sorry..especially from power hungry Apple Store employees.

*One post on Apple Community, the Apple Store blamed a user of the drain, battery health iPhone 12 problems due to "heavy use during COVID lockdown" - although his screen time was normal. 😒

Plus the heavier use of devices for many - not all - happened well over a year ago in March, Apr., May 2020, months before the 12's! Insulting response I thought. My screen time, sure for many others as well, did not change that much, if at all during Covid lockdowns. We had more TV watching on an actual TV, actual streaming devices connected to out TVs.

Maybe because I just notice that coconutBattery is showing 100% design capacity and iMazing is showing 101% but the iPhone health app is showing it as 99%!?

Well, after first % drop two weeks ago (12PM from the launch day) now it's 97% by internal counter. Yep, also 1% per week now :D
Well, at this point it's not too bother for me, but I'm curious with such fast drain for this magical numbers.

First 3 months after release on Samsung wireless charger every night, after that on MagSafe + 20W original also every night.
Usual day usage around 60-70%, 1-2h of games.

I’m actually going to see how my battery performance is after I pass 80%. Hoping it’s just a bug

but Apple said for its iPhone 11 Pro that the recalibration tool will fix battery drain issues. So does Apple just make the battery drain when it passes 80%?

They don’t, but your phone will give the option to either have reduced performance and longer battery life or full performance and reduced battery life. Once you choose an option, you can switch to the other. Either way it’s time to get the battery replaced.

My launch 12 pro has dropped from 99% in January to 91%. I contacted apple support regarding the issue and they just provided me with a bunch of information regarding battery degradation and how to properly store and charge the phone. They told me not to worry about it and quickly brushed me off.

Exactly what I’ve noticed and heard from apple support, as well.
