This is legit annoying me. I have tried everything and no apple tech or Verizon tech knows. And it’s not news. Apparently no one other than us few has this issue!?

I really wish a publication would pick up on this for better visibility. A lot of us have tried talking to many support specialists and it feels like we are running in circles.
Yup. Agreed. I called Apple again. They want me to hard reset my phone to factory by attaching it to my computer. Has anyone done this? Has it worked?

Hi, just adding my issues. I set up a new iPhone 12 today that's running iOS 14.1
I'm on Verizon in Boston, MA. I'm getting 1 or 2 bars, and has dropped to none a couple times. I haven't left the house with the phone yet. My XS on iOS 13.5.1 gets 4 bars and no connection issues.

I want to thank all of you for working out all the bugs of a new phone before I buy one. Again, thank you...

Curious, what is your modem firmware listed as?
My modem firmware is 1.14.04. I submitted sysdiagnose and cellular logs along with timestamps through the Feedback app earlier today. I may also open up a case through our AppleCare Alliance support contract as well but they won't generally assist with betas.

Returning my 12 Pro until they get the signal issues worked out. On Verizon, getting intermittent service at best on the 12 in my basement office versus my Pixel that almost always has signal down there. Missed a couple calls and texts already.

+1 Same issue. I was on beta. Reverted to 14.1. Reset network settings and set up phone as new. All same thing. Brutal!

UPDATE: I’m in the Boston suburbs with average to excellent signal. I turned off “Data Roaming” but left “5G On”. I’m at home now and at least I haven’t lost signal completely. Worth a try to see how others fair.
+1 same issue for days and it’s been driving me insane. I notice it mostly when I’m in the car. Also in Boston suburbs

Wife and I with 12pro on AT&T in Central Ohio. Both having issues of signal dropping and having to go into Airplane Mode and back on to regain signal.

I am also disappointed there hasn’t been any news on the issue... then again we’re a week away from an election. Is it me or do a lot of posts seem to be in the New England area and central ohio area? Could it be something with the towers in those areas?

SIM isn’t the issue, currently using the new one that came preinstalled with the phone. The issue arises when driving/moving quickly and going between areas with weak LTE. At least that’s how I can replicate it.
Same here. We need to ALL continue to contact Apple and Verizon regarding this sad launch!!!

I did. Didn’t change anything for me. Setup phone as new without installing any apps and same issue.

Post it everywhere! This is really annoying; especially days before Nov 3!!

Speaking to Apple: What leads Apple Support to believe that “suddenly” everyone that had perfectly fine cellular coverage are needing to be inconvenienced by setting up their iPhone as new, when they never had issues like this previously ?!!

I forwarded to Macrumors and asked them to pick it up. Receiving my 12P tomorrow (SIM free which will get a Verizon 5G SIM later). We’ll see if I have the same issues. I have an XS that had the same problems weeks into launch until it got resolved via iOS / Carrier updates. Super annoying.

Just to clarify: We’re talking about when you’re driving from location to location and the phone has difficulty jumping onto the new /next tower, right?

Primarily yes but this has happened to me (and others) while still, could be related to tower switching in some regard.

Our experience has been, while driving the same routes that have always worked fine., to suddenly having the iPhone 12 begin “searching...” and then “no service...” only to be able to commence “hand/shake” to next tower (i.e., regaining service) by toggling airplane mode...

So, at least i have airplane mode to toggle , “...is there a Shortcut for that?”

What would a publication do? At least in this thread it seems to be the same 20 or so people talking about this issue, that's not an overwhelming majority to have something written about, no?

No driving here at all. Just at home sitting at my desk. Suddenly goes to "no internet connection", just dead. Required reboot. Airplane mode off/on wouldn't do anything. Haven't had the problem since AT&T switched the SIM card to "4G/LTE" only.

There's quite a few reddit threads (including the one I linked in the original post) that have at least a couple hundred users reporting the issue. Also, who knows how many other people are having this issue that don't know about MacRumors or Reddit etc. Even if it was a few hundred people, sure that isn't an overwhelming majority but there is something to be said about the severity of the issue. Where exactly do you draw that line?

Think about this: you're driving home/waiting for an important call/text and you don't even realize that your phone has lost service (in an area with perfectly good service) for completely no reason. You only notice by the time you get home and it's too late... The only solution so far is to restart the phone or toggle airplane mode, which isn't great. Those calls are still going to be missed. I've missed a handful already from friends.

Then you go to Apple/Verizon/AT&T etc (and many of us have done this/let them know). They are deflecting on one another, the support agents have no knowledge of the issue. Apple (at least to me) claimed engineering knows about it, but that's all I got. Nothing about what the issue actually is or at the very least when we can expect it to be fixed? Is it an iOS update, carrier update etc.

A lot of people rely on phones as their sole form of communication & for one of its most basic features to stop working for no rhyme or reason is not great. Having a publication actually write about this issue would at least bring this issue to the top of the pile and possibly have it be publicly acknowledged by the parties involved.

I'm not being facetious but what other steps would you take? The only option at this point is return the phone, and frankly that's a terrible one.

These are typical launch week issues paired with Verizon opening their 5G network and getting overwhelmed.

I am receiving my SIM free 12 Pro next week. I ordered a 5G SIM from Verizon to place in the 12 as they said the old SIM may not support all new features going forward.

i will activate the 12 with the old SIM from my XS and then later, when this chaos has passed, I will switch to the new SIM.

I went to the Apple store on Monday to get a sim free 12. The salesman put my old sim into the phone, and also gave me a Verizon 5G SIM card to activate later with Verizon. I think I’ll wait also to see how this 5G works out. For now I’ll keep my old sim in it. I didn’t buy the phone for the 5G anyway.

Apple software quality has gone downhill quick. I’m now wondering whether to even open and try my 12 when I get it in a couple days. My 11 Pro Max, while being too large and having crappy cell service at times, is still a usable device. Ordered a 12 pro T Mobile from Apple about 10 minutes after pre sale was live in California. Paid the $8 for expedited shipping. Only to maybe get it on Oct 28 if UPS can decide where to send it (another issue). So if I return it I’m guessing they expect customers to eat the shipping fees? Never returned an iPhone since the 8 that kept crashing to the springboard randomly.

These issues arise and their response is always “reset settings, or restore as new phone” which has NEVER worked for any issues besides storage being sucked up by “other”. This Qualcomm modem is NOT new hardware. After the iPhone 4 fiasco you would think the Apple engineers would have tested this phone and realized this problem before allowing shipments to go out.
If it wasn’t for Apple’s privacy policies I’d switch to windows and android. Never had a reception problem on Samsung Note 8,9, or 10. Those things had Qualcomm modems that were much better than all the intel crap from comparable iPhone generations.

The “iPhone”... what’s it good at? “I....don’t know!” Rant over.
