Well considering a standard 12 with 128GB of storage actually costs $879 I'd say you're honestly better off going with a Pro for an extra $120 or Pro Max for an extra $220. On top of the camera improvements and added RAM in the Pro models, they apparently also use better OLED displays manufactured by Samsung instead of the BOE ones supplied for the standard 12 and mini.

I am interested to know, if the display panels of the 12 pro and the regular 12 are the same - or build the same as I should say. Same pixels, color depth and so... Mhhh, so if there's no difference there's no need for me to choose the 12 pro because I don't use the camera a lot and the stainless steel isn't relevant for me. Battery should be the same if not better on the regular 12 because no LIDAR and 2 GB less memory to power.
Only spec different is brightness. Not sure if that is panel specific. Would be something Apple would normally do to cut cost.

When Apple updated the iPad Pro earlier this year with the LiDAR sensor, it simultaneously increased the RAM to 6GB for the iPad Pro. I'm willing to bet that the features driven the LiDAR sensor necessitates the need for the extra 2GB RAM.

That and the ProRAW feature that’s on the 12 Pro/Pro Max perhaps?

I think the 12 Pro will get brighter in SDR content (stated 800 nits vs. 625 nits). From what I can tell the models are the same except for the camera (Telephoto and LiDAR), RAM, SS Body, and texture matte glass back.

The LiDAR sensor has a resolution of only 0.03MP. iPad Pro (2018) with 1TB already had 6GB memory. It's unlikely the sensor has anything to do with more RAM.

Apple gives you 350 Euro for an iPhone 11 Pro, which was 1100 Euro days ago. Wow!
I can’t even get an 12 mini with selling the superior 11 pro - that’s ridiculous considering the 11 pro isn’t a year and works like charm.
You never traded in a car? You don't get much from a dealer who has to refurb and then sell at retail. so skip the middle man and sell direct.

Apples naming schemes always give me a chuckle. They really should ditch the number value associated to the phone. Just get it over with. Or do they intend to have a iPhone 24 at some point? Call the 12 Pro Max the 2020 iPhone Pro 6.7inch.

iPhone 44 Extreme Ultra Pro Max.
They should go with Note 20, or something really good like that

Existing apps like Halide can already pull the RAW image from the iPhone. ProRAW offers less image processing than the normal output, so it shouldn't need more RAM.

Apple's very stingy with RAM. So that extra 2GB on the Pro models is there for a reason.

I know, the point of my post is that I hate that they do that. I want the extra camera features of the Pro Max but I don’t like the size.

The extra camera features of the Pro Max requires the bigger size of the Pro Max. If they could fit the same features in the smaller 6.1 size they would have. Instead of having the Pro Max have the same cameras as the regular Pro they decided to make use of the extra space this year and improve it.

No!
AAPL stockholders want iPhones that can't properly replace iPads and Macs, and iPads that can't properly replace Macs, so we buy all three.
No, you buy all three because a phone is not a tablet, or a laptop or a desktop, try holding a 16 MBP to your ear. A tablet is not a laptop, despite those who want to use an expensive laptop as a tablet in the Windows world, it really doesn't make sense. For many uses a tablet can suffice as a laptop, for many others it cannot. That is why there are three and they are all thriving.

Speedwise? Battery wise? OLED screen wise? I totally agree.

Camerawise? Nope. especially when I compare my XS Max with the 12 Pro Max. Not by a long shot.

Sure, if you're in need of 1TB storage, you're probably running multiple productivity apps. Hence more RAM.
