Every single iPad Pro & iPhone 12 Pro model has 6GB RAM, right from the 128GB model up to 1TB.

My point was, we saw 6GB RAM on iPad Pro (2018). So it's unlikely to be related to the ToF sensor.

Because 12 & 12 Pro will sell more. They couldn't produce 4 models in October, had to staggered launch.
if the all 4 were released at the same time...the mini and the max were the most sold....but this is a great marketing selling point...make the first sold the 2 models are the most un-intresting, and after 1 month the others....i bet there are users that want to buy the first and after 1-2 months buy the one who wanted in the first place

When Apple updated the iPad Pro earlier this year with the LiDAR sensor, it simultaneously increased the RAM to 6GB for the iPad Pro. I'm willing to bet that the features driven the LiDAR sensor necessitates the need for the extra 2GB RAM.
That’s a good point. My iPhone feels fine with 4GB of RAM for now, but my 2018 iPad Pro doesn’t with 4GB of RAM. I’ll upgrade next year and I’m guessing the Pro models next year will be the ones with 120Hz displays, which will further divide the Pro and non-Pro.

perhaps thats why Apple RAW only works with the Pro models
No, shooting RAW generates a lot of data, but not that much. Even if all 3 cams are shot at the same time and their RAW data is put into the RAW file.
But tbh exporting raw sensor data from an iPhone just to process it externally -when exactly that is what the iPhone is good at- doesn't really make sense to me. Already now the builtin iPhone image processing usually produces better results than many dedicated cameras with superior optics just because of the image processing algorithms in the iPhone.

That’s exactly what’s keeping me at Apple. Still I would’ve loved a 120Hz or at least 90Hz display on the new iPhone 12 Pro. I mean, Google already did it with the Pixel 4 last year. What’s so hard about it?

They were not planning to use the same type of displays as Google that can run one of tho rates. Apple want to use a special display technology that can dynamically change anywhere between 1Hz and 120Hz as needed, like on the watches. They were unable to get enough of the displays+control circuitry for this iPhone generation without delaying the phones even more.

On one hand it's good Apple isn't cheapening out on DRAM on flagships but on the other hand the upsell to pricier Pro models. In comparison the $699 Pixel 5 has 8GB DRAM compared to $879 iPhone 12 that has half the DRAM at 4GB.
They need that much Ram to function

I wish they would just drop the Pro and do price differences with screen size and storage options and clean up the line. I hate that to have the top specs and best camera you have to have the huge phablet.

I’m good with the ‘pro’ moniker if the feature set is consistent across the pro line, but it makes no sense for Apple to call the 6.1 ‘Pro’ when they stripped out key camera features that are exclusive to the max.

How do we know the mini only has 4? Looks like we only have specs and stats on the Pro AFTER a benchmark. I really want that mini, but ram is a constant issue on my 11... apps constantly closing in the background, app cleaning, etc... but I'm curious if we know for sure the mini only has 4gb.

Years ago I used to be on the otherside of the fence. Touting competitor phones and cameras as being better than Apple. But you know, once I made the transition starting with the iPad Pro, and then getting an iPhone, I have never paid attention to specs anymore. That's just because their stuff just seems to work beautifully. Why doesn't Apple just go balls out and put the most ridiculous specs? I mean, really, do they need to? They put it where the need and just use what they need. 4gb or 6 gb of ram, the main consumers will not even notice.

I much prefer the regular 12's shade of blue.
Agree. Unfortunately, the textured glass of the pro line mutes those backside colors a bit more than I’d prefer.

Prio to the keynote, I was looking forward to the idea of a navy blue option (I consider navy blue a less pretentious black). Seeing it in marketing promo photos (aka: not in person), is disappointing. Where the 12/mini blue color landed is much more what I was hoping for in the pro line. Now I’m tempted to go my standard space grey/graphite route. Womp womp. Maybe I’ll get crazy and go white/silver.

I’m enrolled in the iUP program and will be upgrading Friday. Decisions decisions - albeit, not very important decisions. 🤪

I hear this all the time but proof is never shown.

I think I read it someplace on an Android rumors web site, but I don't remember where.

I had an Android phone back before iPhone came to VZW (HTC Incredible) and it was the best non iPhone I ever had. I really liked it. I also had one of those god awful BlackBerry's with the touchscreen keyboard that I would just assume forget about about. STORM! It was called the storm. Yeah, it was a storm all right. Storm to get away from it as soon as I could.

In the end, people are free to use what they want to use. In the US, iPhone presently has 45.4% market share, which is pretty good. Worldwide numbers are drastically different.

So I don't know if Android is a ram hog or not. I remember OSX being a ram hog back when it first came out, but ram was a little more expensive then and now it simply isn't an issue.

I can remember adding an extra stick of ram to my iMac back in the day and it was like light and day....
