Got my iPhone 12 roughly 2 weeks ago and did notice the overly warm display in comparison to previous iPhone’s. Which wasn’t very appealing.

In regards to raised blacks, they’re definitely there on low brightness. I compared my 12 to my brothers iPhone 12 who recieved his a couple days ago, and there is a clear difference...his has no raised blacks at any brightness whatsoever. Which is very bizarre. I was certain after reading almost every post in this forum that every iPhone is affected by this, but maybe not.

I did the test using the video posted here and the plain black iPhone wallpaper, the results were the same.

This lead me to contact Apple support, who remain oblivious to the issue till this day, and declined reading any forums when I told them. They advised it could be a ‘bug’ and to factory reset my phone and try, which I have and the issue persists. It’s past my 14 days to return however, seen as though I have an identical iPhone to mine which doesn’t have raised blacks im hoping to atleast get a replacement.

I will keep you all updated, will contact Apple support again today.

Check this post out from another thread. Seems like there are different type of screens installed on our phones depending on the supplier. Some are better than others. It's weird though that it seems that the majority of the phones come with the worse quality ones.

Meantime, I finally got my replacement phone and will be testing tonight for raised blacks.

Just checked the part numbers for the panels on mine & my brothers phones.

His has part code prefix #GVC whereas mine has #G9P. From the post that’s shared above, the LG panel on my brothers phone is outperforming the Samsung panel on mine. which again is surprising as Samsung supposedly are meant to have the superior panels.

Looking forward to seeing if your replacement has the same issue. By the looks of it I’m guessing it’s coming down to panel lottery with some clearly being affected and some are not.

Haven’t checked the serial of my display yet but this sample here has a warmer tone on the right edge of the screen from top to bottom. Does show a bit of flicker at high brightness levels.
I’m not going to return it, I have had 4 phones replaced in a month, I got tired of it lol. I don’t really care, obviously I wish I got another perfect screen (got one but the back glass came scratched and had to replace), but it’s too hard to get lucky.

Ya mines an LG panel and has no raised black or green tint issue. Seems like all the bad ones are Samsung.

I thought the bad ones were a mix of LG + Samsung, that neither manufacturer was free of the problem?

My bad I must be wrong, as I only have the one Samsung & LG to compare. Woudnt be surprised if it’s a mix of them both which are affected.

Yeah I guess once you’ve returned 4, it would get pretty annoying.

I spoke to Apple support today who have issued me a replacement which will arrive in the coming week. Hopefully the screen is perfect, doesn’t look promising but I sure hope so.

This is acctually my second replacement, the first I didn’t even know of the ‘raised black’ issue. That was replaced due to a faulty battery. Really is frustrating that Apple’s QC has been awful this year, just a ton of problems on all devices. Pretty frustrating when you’re spending £800+

Some people on another thread argued that I am exaggerating when I complained about receiving two iPhones that were scratched out of the box. Apparently paying a premium for a phone does not allow you to expect good quality control LMAO

Though I totally agree with you (obviously) but this is another case of the yearly "gate" that we get with iPhones. Starting from the iPhone 4, every year the iPhones had some stupid issue that Apple wouldn't even admit and then when the next model comes out, everyone forgets about it.
I kinda couldn't unsee the warmer portion of the screen of the phone while browsing reddit last night in my bed, I am unsure about what to do to be honest. I'll probably get AppleCare+ and ask for a replacement in a few months. **** Apple when they do this.

Exactly, if I buy a brand new iPhone, or anything for that matter, I expect no defects or issues whatsoever, anyone who says otherwise might as well flush their money down the toilet.

If my replacement is also unbearable I may just sell it and go for an 11 Pro, but hopefully it’s not that bad.

Tbh if I were to return my 12 Pro right now, I'd buy a 2nd hand old iPhone and then wait till September for the iPhone 13 at this point.

Not really accurate. I have the Samsung “good” display. It’s has raised blacks, green glow and as a bonus uneven tint.

I bet yours is Max? I think that list is more accurate for 6.1".
Every 6.1" G9P's I have seen I have not been happy with but G9N I've seen is perfect. Also based on several I have ordered and checked local store they seem to be G9P's on 6.1" so rarity of G9N's IMHO also proves that.

If this is affecting LG and Samsung panels and all versions of the 12 series phones, I can't see how it can be a hardware issue.

Apple has said it's not a hardware issue, they are working on a software fix, people are stressing out over nothing, they had the same problem with the 11 pro models, that was fixed with a software update. 😊

Comparing newer older build numbers, lg or samsung panels isn't going to solve anything, wait for Tim Cook to hit that software update button. 👉📱

Fun fact. The 11 Pro green tint issue was fixed at the end of August 2020. 🤣 it was the last or one of the last versions of iOS 13. Lol

With the 12 it’s a different behaviour.

Have a look what happened with the 11 last year. It didn’t have raised blacks at all.
Still doesn’t mean it won’t take Apple a whole year to fix it. But you’re right, the symptoms do appear to be different.

Raised blacks are a function of too much voltage across the OLED pixels essentially making them light up when there should be no voltage. The green tint could likely be a calibration issue however I suspect it’s the green sub pixels that are getting the incorrect voltage. Which results in both, green raised blacks.

Ive observed the issue in all states on my 12 Pro. Even during the start up splash screen with the Apple logo. It will flash on and off.

I suppose it could be called a thermal management (increased voltage) issue or something else. it just depends on whatever Apple wants to label it as if they acknowledge it at all.

Either way I fully expect it to be fixed by software. It’s funny, when ever there is a problem with a device everyone cries hardware. It almost always ends up being software. By a long shot.
