So I'm a little confused by the final lineup photo. My understanding from the apple site is that the 12 Pro is bigger than the 11 Pro. You're saying that it's actually smaller than the 11?

And since everyone is adding their personal picks, I think I've decided on the Pro. I am bummed about missing out on camera features with the Max, but I rarely encounter blurry/shaky photos with my 11 Pro so that's not a huge problem for me that the special sensor (and only on one of three lenses) would solve. Really it's that enhanced low light that I'd love to get, but the SIZE of the thing is so dang big. I didn't even like the iPhone 8 Plus because of the size. I definitely wouldn't want to text with the Max :/

Oh, and blue!

I don’t think we will be able to really know until there are some comparisons. It kinda sucks that you either have to wait until the Pro Max comes out and then decide, or you buy the 12 Pro now and return if the Max is that much better. I would say that while percentages look great on a slide, it does not always reflect reality lol.

With only a 14 day return window, there’s no way to buy a Pro on launch day and wait for the Max to be released.

This image is out of proportion!
The difference in size from 5.4" to 6.1" (+0.7") is actually bigger than that from 6.1" to 6.7" (+0.6").

If you want to compare two different iPhone models side by side, including older models like the SE 1st generation, go to:

Hmm you be right the physical sizes are not accurate due different dpi across devices, though I have to look into it. But the amount of the website you can see should be accurate.

The iPhone 11 Pro is smaller than the iPhone 11 if that helps.

In the image the 11 Pro is to left of the 12 Pro. And the 11 is to the right of it.

Edit: mixed it up, fixed

Not sure who first coined the term “phablet” but they are not for me. The 12 Pro tiny bump in size was enough to not make it any more annoying, so I pulled the trigger, upgrading from my X. If there was a way to pack all the cool features of the Pro in the mini AND still have decent battery life/performance/controlled temp - that would be amazing. We’re not there yet, but perhaps in a year or so. :)

Coming from a Plus sized iphone the Pro Max is the choice because of:

1. Battery life
2. Wider display (meaning wider keyboard).

I was really hoping with earlier leaks that there might be a smart connector that would allow Apple to introduce a mini keyboard cover for the Pro Max (turned out to be for mmWave). Maybe a third party can make this happen? Give me a Magic keyboard accessory as I use my iPhone like a mini tablet.

Here's a better / more accurate version. thanks.

I think I need to actually see them in-store to compare, which means I need to wait until November to order.

I really wish they’d just kept the camera features the same across the board. It’s dumb to reserve the best components for the biggest phone.

I’d pay top dollar for a 12 Mini Pro with the lidar features. Just make it a bit thicker and slap a big battery in there, and I’d throw money at it.

same for me.

And yes, might just go blue for the first time.

Would get this case in blue:

Or apple blue leather if they ship that.

I ordered this navy case as well. 😜

Regarding the camera, what is the optical zoom range? For example, I have the XS Max with telephoto which goes up to 2X. Is this the same thing or different? I thought the iPhone 12 Pro can go up close to 4X. Can someone help me understand what this means?

  • 2x optical zoom in, 2x optical zoom out; 4x optical zoom range

I’m undecided so I ordered a 12 Pro today. I’ve used the Plus/Max since the 6S but I’m thinking the new 6.1 Pro might be easier to use and closer to the 11 size which I think is a good size.

I do love the big screen and I use my iPhone more than any other device. I think the extra camera features will be better on the Pro Max. So we will see!

Just within today;

  • I had to check the shopping list multiple times while pushing a heavy shopping cart
  • While putting groceries to the car, I checked and replied to a text with my other hand
  • While holding a mug on one hand, I had to turn on "flashlight" on the iPhone using control center with my other hand for something
  • While feeding son with one hand, I had to take my iPhone out of my pocket and send a quick business email
  • Even now as I type this post with my right hand, I am checking some news notification on my iPhone with my left hand
So, just a few example and many more not listed of my daily stuff where I will have extreme difficulties doing these simple tasks with the Pro Max, but I had no problem with any of these on my iPhone X. I tried 6s Plus back in the days and I had to get rid of it less in than a month. Camera feats of Pro Max is sweet but I have to use it for other stuff as well every day.

Comparing the size of my current iPhone 7 Plus against the 12 Max Pro
  • Screen: 5.5" Retina HD vs 6.7" Super Retina XHD
  • Height: 6.23 inches (158.2 mm) vs 6.33 inches (160.8 mm)
  • Width: Same at 3.07 inches (77.9 mm)
  • Depth: Same at 0.29 inch (7.3 mm)

The 12 Max Pro is every so slightly bigger in height but definitely way more screen real estate. A touch heavier too.

I know from having had a Note 10+ that the size of the 12 Pro Max would doom it to being left on my nightstand a lot instead of with me. I already have a DSLR, but as anyone whose main subjects are pets and kids knows, the cute moments won’t wait while you run to fetch your best gear from some safe space. So the 12 Pro Max was never a temptation. And besides, my husband is getting that model, so if I really need to borrow it for some specific reason, he will let me.

Does anyone know how the iPhone 11 Pro night time photos compares to the iPhone 12 Pro? I am wondering if there is an improvement this year, and the article only compares the 12 Pro Max as 87% in low light vs the 12 Pro.

Or, just use your Watch! No need to hold or haul around an iPhone if you don’t want to. And you can have a larger iPhone and better camera

It's been six years since the iPhone 7 came out and the iPhone 12 is only marginally better. At this rate, (of diminishing returns) the iPhone 19 looks like the next iPhone to wait for.. Seven more years

I’ll wait one more year:

2021:
- smaller notch
- The return of the Touch ID
- better future proof 5G chip
- pencil support
- 120 hertz display

and when the 12 pro MAX comes out in November, it’s only 10 months till iphone 13 ...
