And yet there could be 2 very thin “bands” at the top and bottom instead.

proximity and ALS can be in the bottom band. Speaker can come out the top of frame as can mic pickup.
Good idea - but I wonder if/how often parts of the hand would cover parts of the bottom band?

They don’t need to. The speakers they have are attuned such that, holding the phone horizontally, the L/R audio is balanced as if they were the same size and shape.
You really think so? The bottom speaker is WAY louder than the earpiece speaker for me when viewing stereo content horizontally. So much so that I wish they wouldn't even try making it stereo, because half of the audio is half the volume and it's obnoxious.

Whole punch not expected till 2023 that’s 3 models away from now. Samsung already has it
Seems like Apple is not paying enough attention to its iPhone business Majority of People not going to upgrade for a smaller notch or
120 hz or a small camera improvement

Yea, it’s balanced. Of course, you could certainly have set your phone so that it’s no longer balanced.

I think the majority of people don’t have last year’s phone. Or the year before that. Or, very likely, the year before that.

There are a LOT of older iPhones out there. :)

Notches and lack of 120 displays are not a thing for me and I would estimate the same goes for 99% of consumers.
But glad to see improvements non the less.

I think Apple knows what they are doing. The majority of customers most likely still use an iPhone with a home button. I don’t think that notches and 120hz are with the majority of customers care about. If it was, iPhones wouldn’t be selling very well, now would they?
Samsung, and other phone manufacturers, implement hundreds and hundreds of features, not all of which are perfect.
Apple does a lot of waiting.
They’re going to wait until LTPO screens are widely available before implementing 120 Hz, that way it doesn’t take a hit to battery life or phone performance.
They’re going to wait to get rid of the notch until they can do it without any compromises, while maintaining the full security of face ID.
So to reiterate, Apple knows what they are doing.

As ppl have pointed out, it has to do w/ the commitment to FaceID, which takes more than one hole. I'd imagine Apple decided a notch looks better than either multiple punch-holes, or a thicker bezel that goes all the way across the top that doesn't match the other sides. Not sure what the other alternatives are??
The outrage is fake. Fools on the internet who are looking to stir up controversy so they can gain attention. Ignore them.

I'm glad to see continuing rumors for the mini!

Good to see the mini likely continuing on.

The poor sales of the mini couldn't affect this year's iPhone, because Apple plans their iPhones with several years of anticipation. The poor sales of 5.4" iPhones will affect 2022 or maybe 2023 designs, because they are now planning and designing those iPhones.

So seeing an upcoming iPhone 13 mini doesn't necessarily mean Apple is committed to the small form factor, but rather they had this one planned previously and it is a bit late to cancel it. We'll see what happens in the future. I would be happy with a 5.6" or even 5.8" iPhone. Bigger than that is unusable, at least for me.
