It'd be a shame for the iPhone to loose the original notch, it's the most prominent visual feature. Almost every other phone looks the same.
At the end of the day, the notch is a compromise between maximizing screen real estate and the inclusion of FaceID hardware. I doubt most people are sad to see that compromise mitigated with smaller hardware. I think most people anticipate the day when all of the needed hardware can go under the screen and/or into the bezel.

It gives you the most amount of screen space for the experience the device offers.

I would like to see Apple remove the notch altogether as it’s the only thing preventing me from upgrading to the latest model.

The most important thing the iPhone 13 needs to have is Touch ID. It would be nice if Apple would pay attention to its customers. It seems like Apple is becoming Samsung, taking features off of phones that were useful and ignoring what customers want. Face ID does not always work even without a mask.

I hope the clarity / audio volume of calls don't suffer by moving the earpiece.
I have an iPhone 11 pro max and a Xiaomi Poco X3 NFC. The Poco has the earpiece at the top bezel, but the sound quality is horrendous, making phone calls even at max volume very hard to hear.

Do they finally work with wet fingers?
what about Face ID ,does it work with face masks, all sunglasses and hats? what about using it in tilted position?
what are the chances of needing to unlock phone with wet hands vs above scenarios?

I rather feel that, by the fact that their customers continue to buy very large numbers of devices is evidence that they DO pay attention to their customers. It could be that some folks that used to be their targeted customers aren’t targeted anymore, maybe?

No, people buy iPhones in record numbers because of abusive practices like locking people into ecosystems. If you bought an iPhone once in your life, then you are mostly stuck. It has nothing to do with what customers want.

I think Apple knows that a large amount of people are still holding on to their iPhone 5,6,7,8 that still have touch ID.

Apple needs those customers to let go of their older phones and the way to accomplish this is to implement touch ID on iPhone 13.

I have a doubt: how does the FaceID work? There is only a hole for camera, but no fo r other sensors!
FaceID doesn’t use light in the visible spectrum; therefore, much like IR remotes have coverings/lenses in front of their IR LEDs that appear to be black but are in fact a translucent dark red, so does the FaceID part of the notch, as it’s tinted behind the opaque black mask.

If you look at an iPhone X/XR/XS/11/12 under indoor lighting the notch will appear quite similar, but if you look at it under direct sunlight or shine a powerful LED flashlight at it – or stare at it long enough – you can clearly see the difference in colour under the three additional holes for the sensors.

I hate the notch. We need a shakeup at Apple. A radically different design. I'm not talking rounded v squared corners. Something new. A flat glass panel. I can't believe we debate over notch widths.

Never use my phone in landscape mode or watch movies or play games , so tbh the notch isn’t much of a big deal IMO . Battery life however is
