I'm hopeful ProMotion will be in both the Pro and Pro Max as the article says. It would be very annoying if it ended up just in the Max.

sod the iPhone 12 buyers....... how about coming up with a higher capacity battery that can be fitted into existing iPhone 12 devices via a paid swap out appointment - am sure a lot would appreciate that. I'm not dropping another £1k+ for a new phone for the sake of an hour extra battery life.
That's basically impossible unless you're talking about external battery packs which already exist.

While IP12 is an absolute fantastic phone, which looks and performs amazing. It still looks like Apple is playing the good old tik-tok strategi with brand new design one year( which always sells like crazy) and then the real star of the show the next year as we have seen with the S-models 4s, 5s, and 6s.

Also kind of the same in iPad Pros, with the M1 being so amazing that everyone is upgrading to it for good reason. But I bet Apple have something absolutely awesome in store for new year that Will make everyone realise that the 2022 iPad Pro was always meant as the star of the show.

iPhone 13 buyers will feel the same way in September of 2022 perhaps. £1k+ is definitely huge. I just found my Japan receipt for iPhone 6 Plus and that was equivalent of £295. It’s gone crazy. I’m getting the battery replaced in my XS!

Why doesn't Apple try to make (sell) a thicker phone with thicker battery? Can't you see how many people are purchasing battery cases? We all understand that the marketing people at Apple insist on pollination, but they are pushing it too hard. I do not want to buy dongles in order to insert an SD card or a simple USB on a laptop. I do not want to depend on a socket for my phone as if I was an addict to plugs. And then again, where is the iNTELLIGENCE about battery maintenance and duration?
The marketing people at Apple should be more innovating and daring and try to sell a model (not necessarily the biggest iPhones) which battery would last two or three days in average circumstances (when new). They must perfectly know what "average" means in this case. If the new Mac Mini is now going to have a double processor, one for heavy tasks and another one low demanding tasks (in processing terms), why wouldn't the iPhone have a double processor, one for just calls and standby (not much processor needs, in this case) , and another for the computing tasks. Meaning, I could have the battery lasting more than two weeks when used only as a phone and not as a smartphone.

Or, you know, make them all have the same average battery life so customers only have less variables to consider.

Ah, I see you're new to the world of Apple. Welcome.

"The ‌iPhone 12 mini‌, which is the smallest ‌iPhone‌ Apple has made to date, has performed poorly in sales compared to the other models." - it might be because of the fact that the iPhone mini (despite it is called mini) is still too big and too heavy compared to the original iPhone SE (20% heavier than SE). If it were smaller and lighter, the sales figures would be certainly much, much higher.
And thank you Apple, because of the larger battery capacity the new iPhone 13 will be even heavier.
“Certainly” huh?

So because the mini is too big, according to you, people are instead buying what?

Or if it had flagship features.

The whole point of the story is that Apple is making a thicker phone with a bigger battery. Your whole wall of text is based on a false premise derived from not reading the story?

Yes that would be nice, if only laws of physics would cooperate.

How would that work? Battery capacity is mostly a function of volume. What fits in the case is what fits in the case. If you want more capacity, get a battery case or external battery.

I'm little bit confused about this each year. If we ignore the promotion for a second.
A chip will be more efficient, 5G will be more efficient so then by default, if we get the same battery as last year than the battery life will be longer, no?
So, is the ProMotion such a battery drain hog that it needs bigger battery on top of all those savings?

More efficient parts on its own does not equal to a longer battery life for the whole package.

For an example, more efficient cores does not mean they didn't bump the clock speed, add more cores and so on. More efficient 5G radio does not mean it uses less wattage, they may have offset it by adding more radios; like going from 2x2, up and down to 3x3 for faster download/upload perf.

If you replaced only just the battery in the iPhone 12 Max Pro, then yes, you get a longer battery life because the overall usage remains the same.

If you replace the SoC on iPhone 12 Max Pro with more efficient SoC, then no, it does not get a longer battery life by default because the overall usage may have changed, you may gained a much faster performance and it ends up using more or equal the same amount of usage, meaning less or equal battery life.

It all depends on what changes went into it or in other words, what is the balance they took with every efficiency improvement they've gained.

The only green technology coming from Apple these days is in the form of cash in their bank accounts. If Apple cares so much about the environment, they would stop their yearly iPhone updates and move to updates every 2-3 years. Why couldn’t the 12s be 5G and have the bigger batteries? Why, because they need a feature to sell each year. I’m sure I’ll get a lot of dislikes from those who love getting a new Max each year thinking it’s so great and Apple is being so innovating, but in reality Apple is making calculated decisions on what new feature they release each so that they can milk the dead smartphone business until their car is ready. Change my mind.

"However, Apple seems to be set to address those concerns if this rumor proves to be true."

Brilliant, MR team, brilliant.
