Over 4300 mAh for the new max would be great. People who don’t need 120 Hz will enjoy great battery life.

It's not false expectations, it's different priorities.

First, it's not that I'm incapable of charging my phone during the day, it's just that it's yet another thing to remember or risk being without music or other entertainment on the train home from work. My phone gets me through most days and usually I'll remember to top up, but I want my phone to have enough reserves for the days when I forget, or when I travel or when I'm otherwise active. I really do t want a phone that has its battery capacity modelled around my desk job.

Second, phones such as the Pixel 5 have shown that you can have amazing battery life in a reasonably compact and not too heavy form factor. I honestly don't care about a couple of millimetres more thickness for a few more hours of battery.
If you are a person who may forget to check your phone and top off, make a shortcut that will alert you (via alarm or audile voice) that you need to charge your phone. That is what I did, not that I have to reply on such but, it is a good failsafe (so to speak).

I like em' thic 🙃
ROFLMAO … my boy and my son both had this joke with me either he es act same line 10yrs apart! Neither of them knew what either sad and completely different personalities experiences and walks of life lol just made me howl in laughter!
Main reason I skipped the 12. Didn’t like the idea of skimping on the battery to offset the cost of the modem which is also power hungry.

Bring it on! Skipped the 12 since the batt capacity stayed the same and you just knew the 5G modem was going to be more power hungry than the refined old 4G one. Guessing the updated modem in the 12s / 13 will be a little more efficient, but still a power hog and more capacity is a good thing. IMHO of course.

Neither of you had any idea what the battery life would be on the 13 when the 12 was released nor the battery efficiency of the CPUs or full system. Also the 5G modem use is conditional per person or needs or use case ~ so it’s a conditional metric by any comparison.

Sure, but that's in the end a mitigation, not a solution. I want a phone that gets me through a day of normal to slightly heavier usage without without having to think about it. If that means my phone is slightly thicker or the processor is not the absolute fastest I'm okay with that.

I am fine with a slightly thicker phone as well but, we have to focus on and deal with the tech we have.

Our conversation is still centered around expectations. If people buy iPhones and find that the phone battery doesn't measure up to their expectation, said people need to make sure their expectations are in line with the stated testing and expectancy of the battery, or adjust their expectations and personal phone habits to be more aligned with the phone, or try Android.

Your post is corroborating my initial point.

I haven’t upgraded for years and don’t plan to until my phone breaks. I’m saying from a marketing standpoint making mirror updates every year just to sale more phones isn’t green.
You're saying that people who happen to need a phone right now, because, say, their phone broke into a hundred pieces, should be forced to buy two year old technology, because that's just where Apple happens to be in their three year release cycle (or they could try to get by with no phone for another year until the new ones come out).

But where's the fun in that? In all seriousness, whether or not a phone performs as well as can be expected and being realistic about what to expect when buying a phone is one thing. That doesn't mean we can't criticise what is the result of conscious design choices by Apple. Isn't this the whole point of a discussion forum?

You are right. This forum is about praise and criticism, and I have no problem with valid criticism.

still no solid news about Touch ID
I doubt it’s coming. It seems like a fairly straightforward addition to the power button, but I think iPhones will all be FaceID, probably even the SE3, or perhaps the SE3 gets TouchID in the power button like the iPad Air and FaceID stays on the more premium iPhones.

While IP12 is an absolute fantastic phone, which looks and performs amazing. It still looks like Apple is playing the good old tik-tok strategi with brand new design one year( which always sells like crazy) and then the real star of the show the next year as we have seen with the S-models 4s, 5s, and 6s.

Also kind of the same in iPad Pros, with the M1 being so amazing that everyone is upgrading to it for good reason. But I bet Apple have something absolutely awesome in store for new year that Will make everyone realise that the 2022 iPad Pro was always meant as the star of the show.
I’m holding on to my 2018 iPad Pro until the next one comes out, which should have an updated design, though I am a big fan of the current design.

I get that some people struggle to be near an outlet at some point during the work day. I think those people are the exception. There are far more people that seem to have an aversion to plugging their phone into a power source during the day (for some reason). If more people would practice some common sense, I think there would be far less complaints about battery life. False expectations produce poor results.
100% agree. I feel like there are a whole lot of people who complain about battery life and I always think “why can’t these people just plug in at some point during the day…” I am seriously thinking about the 13 Mini and have no issues about battery as my phone is plugged in multiple times per day. I’ve done that for years and never had excess battery wear by doing that, and never run out of battery during the day.

Unless the new mini only comes in purple with white polka dots, I will be upgrading as well. :D

There has only been a few times I have needed to charge during the day. I do travel with a spark Qi charger as well as the standard 5w brick and cord just in case I need to get some juice.

Battery on my 8 is starting to go, so this sounds awesome, but if there’s no touchID there’s a good chance I’ll just replace the battery on the 8 and hold onto it for another year :(

The thing is you could be doing that for several years with no Touch ID planned. Lol.

What I find really odd is if Apple wants to abandon Touch ID why didn’t they put in on the power button on the iPad Air? That could easily work just as well on the iPhone using your index finger.

Yes. Why not? That’s better than not being able to replace your phone at all when we’ve run out of nature resources to make them.

If the iPhone is a tax write off for you then this news really matters little. You'll still replace it once contract is done within 24 months.

I think there's too many models.

Pro Max, Pro, regular, Mini.

Just make an iPhone 13 point final merci bonsoir.

Please stop. Every single iPhone from 6s onwards has gotten thicker, heavier, and bulkier. So much so that the iPhone 12 already feels like an uncomfortable brick to hold
”Whatcha talkin ‘bout Willis?“

iPhone 5 dimensions:
L123.8 x W58.6 x Thickness 7.6 mm (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 in)
iPhone 6s dimensions:
L138.3 x W67.1 x Thickness 7.1 mm (5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 in)
iPhone 7 dimensions:
L138.3 x W67.1 x Thickness 7.1 mm (5.44 x 2.64 x 0.28 in)

iPhone SE dimensions:
123.8 x 58.6 x 7.6 mm (4.87 x 2.31 x 0.30 in)
iPhone SE 2020 dimensions:
138.4 x 67.3 x 7.3 mm (5.45 x 2.65 x 0.29 in)
iPhone 12 Mini dimensions:
131.5 x 64.2 x 7.4 mm (5.18 x 2.53 x 0.29 in)

Thickness negligible, yet STILL thinner than the OG SE.

iPhone 6S dimensions:

iPhone 12 dimensions:
146.7 x 71.5 x 7.4 mm (5.78 x 2.81 x 0.29 in)

Height sure …
Width under 4mm,
thickness … .3mm

bruh in millimeters! Try holding each blindfolded at random, beyond the edges and flat screen of the 12 I’d doubt you’d be able to tell.

I got the battery replaced just before battery gate, and Apple telling me my battery is fine. I’m on my 4th non-Apple battery.
Apple refused to do my phone as they said it was bent. It’s not, I think they just did not want to do it for me.

I even compared it to my Mitutoyo steel rule and couldn’t see a bend.

I’m ready to consider an upgrade to my XS Max, and the 13 Pro Max looks pretty damn good at this point. I’m currently enjoying three year cycles.
