I've been rocking my 6S for 5 1/2 years; 6 years by the time the upgrade comes. My upgrade is going to be epic!
I tried holding out on my 6s too but I ended up getting a refurb 11 pro from Apple. Best battery I’ve ever had, easily get 2 days without charging. It still has the form factor of my 6s but larger screen without being a larger phone. It was 849 plus I had 200 in apple gift cards. So great deal for me. I do miss Touch ID very very much though.

Me when Apple releases iPhone 13.... :D

View attachment 1785199

Relax, it's just not going to make it to the moon.

What? Too soon?

That Apollo mission did nothing to ease Triskaidekaphobia in people. I expected iOS 13 to sublimate our iPhones or something equally horrific. It seemed fine. It even had a cool name, High-Sierra.

But I was born on the 13th, so my mom said it was her 'lucky number'. Well, at least until the rest were hatched.:D:p:cool: (My dad said it was a Friday. Hah hah...)

Me too. Currently about to go from my 6S to the 13 Pro. Looking forward to it.

5 1/2 years of no case and the screen still hasn’t broken.

Lock button and headphone Jack have stopped working though and the battery life is abysmal.

iphone 6s user here. ive just not been too sure on if to wait or get the iphone 12.

clearly i will go for the mini. i really love better battery and camera features, but so long as lidar scanner is mainly what i lose i will be fine. i really hope i can get promotion, although that doesnt seem to be the case.

sad sad :c

i will be waiting, but still, really hope the mini gets some love

Yeah, I understand that. I just simplified it as every year there is an A chip that is "more efficient" and yet the end user doesn't really get to see that on common task.

Of course, if you use intensive app then absolutely its visible but Whatsapp, Messenger or iMessages = zero benefit pretty much.
So, where are the advancements in the efficiency then? If the chip is about 10-20% more efficient each year and yet I use the same app (lets use iMessage for example) then I would assume the app is using pretty much the same energy every year so therefore we should see more battery life.
I'm not being difficult here btw, I'm just going for the very simple level of thinking (one could say) and that is that same app each year should see longer battery life if the chip is efficient and everything else is the same, no?

Otherwise, for end user - its just marketing term as the result is the same.

Now, if we take photos then that is another level as there is tons of processing behind so that would make sense that we don't get any battery increase.

But I doubt iMessages, Whatsapp etc. consume more power year year due to efficiencies.

Anyway, I know its a bit hypothetical but in a way it would make sense. Kinda like - when you use not demanding apps then you will see battery gains each generation. :)

You don't notice the much faster internet downloading and faster website rendering between iPhone 7 and SE? How about less app refreshes when switching between apps?

There are a couple of things:

1. SE has 1GB more memory than iPhone 7 and RAM uses power constantly, so more memory, the more battery it eats up. (I lost 2h battery life in my laptop when I added 32GB more memory to it for an example)
2. You bought SE that's pretty much identical as iPhone 7 but with smaller battery, by ~140mah. The newer phone has a 1,821mAh battery, while the iPhone 7 uses a 1,960mAh.

The efficiency gains every year isn't going to magically give you hours of battery life, we're only talking mere minutes at best. The only meaningful battery life improvement you're going to see is from upgrading to a much bigger battery such as iPhone 12 Max Pro.

Honestly I think the 13 mini will be the star of the show. I’m on my 4th month in and still getting 5.5-6.5hrs screen time from full power. 200mAh would be a boost with more efficient cpu and no higher consuming screen haha
Yeah the Mini needs it the most. I know a lot of people that really like the Mini but would like more battery life on it.

"The ‌iPhone 12 mini‌, which is the smallest ‌iPhone‌ Apple has made to date, has performed poorly in sales compared to the other models." - it might be because of the fact that the iPhone mini (despite it is called mini) is still too big and too heavy compared to the original iPhone SE (20% heavier than SE). If it were smaller and lighter, the sales figures would be certainly much, much higher.
And thank you Apple, because of the larger battery capacity the new iPhone 13 will be even heavier.
As much as I like the mini, I don't think sales would be a lot more had it been smaller. There are too many iPhone addicts that are glued to their phones. They want their luggage phone so it is easier for them to live on their phone.

This looks like a really good upgrade for 11 Pro users
Really? I don’t see it as that much of an upgrade over the 11 pro. Battery life will be about the same as 11pro and will be just as heavy. Unless it gets Touch ID I don’t see it being worth the upgrade over a 11 pro.

Please stop. Every single iPhone from 6s onwards has gotten thicker, heavier, and bulkier. So much so that the iPhone 12 already feels like an uncomfortable brick to hold

Yawn. I’m not excited about this years phone. They have to come up with better ideas again to get me excited.

I got the battery replaced just before battery gate, and Apple telling me my battery is fine. I’m on my 4th non-Apple battery.

The whole point of the story is that Apple is making a thicker phone with a bigger battery. Your whole wall of text is based on a false premise derived from not reading the story?
Well, I'm sorry you did not read my text carefully enough. I mean thicker as a battery pack, for a three-days performance on normal use. That much thicker; and not slightly insignificantly thicker.

So the battery is just only getting back to the size of the 11. Amazing apple shrinks the battery (in the 12 series) only to bring it back and everyone is like "wow so amazing of apple." How about they quit shrinking the battery in the first place. Battery life in the 12 is pretty bad. Let's bring back larger batteries and get the iPhone XR/11 type of battery life for a change.

does not have to be a physically larger battery, could be new and improved chemicals that give you better capacity ... just saying

11 pro has a 3046 mAh battery
12 pro has 2815 mAh

13 pro possibly 3095 mAh

Speaking of battery, the 13 pro will probably be about the same usage as the 11 pro.

I get that some people struggle to be near an outlet at some point during the work day. I think those people are the exception. There are far more people that seem to have an aversion to plugging their phone into a power source during the day (for some reason). If more people would practice some common sense, I think there would be far less complaints about battery life. False expectations produce poor results.

A new rumor from Weibo, shared on Twitter by credible leaker l0vetodream, alleges to be the battery capacities for the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup, revealing that all of the 2021 iPhones will feature larger batteries.

iPhone-13-Battery-Life-Feature.jpg

According to the rumor, the iPhone 13 Pro Max will feature a 4352mAh battery, compared to the current iPhone 12 Pro Max's 3687mAh battery. The iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro will share a battery of 3095mAh, compared to 2815mAh. The smallest model of the lineup, the iPhone 13 mini, will feature a 2406mAh battery, compared to the iPhone 12 mini's 2227mAh.

With iPhone devices, the size of the battery only tells a portion of a device's battery story. The other half comes down to the efficiency of the A-series chip and other components. The A15 chip, expected in the iPhone 13, will improve energy efficiency on top of the larger battery. While the higher-end models of the 2021 iPhone lineup will feature larger batteries, so will the smallest iPhone 13 mini, according to this rumor.

The iPhone 12 mini, which is the smallest iPhone Apple has made to date, has performed poorly in sales compared to the other models. One reason may be the smaller battery in the device, leading to struggling all-day battery life. However, Apple seems to be set to address those concerns if this rumor proves to be true.

The larger batteries will also help accommodate the rumored inclusion of a ProMotion 120Hz display in the iPhone 13 Pro and iPhone 13 Pro Max. Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo has stated that Apple plans to include the ProMotion technology in the highest-end models of the lineup. Compared to the current peak 60Hz, a 120Hz display will use more battery.

Schematics of the upcoming iPhone 13 lineup seen by MacRumors indicated that the 2021 iPhones will be thicker in design. Thanks to this rumor, the increase in thickness seem to be due to the larger battery capacities.

Just asking, but for most people, especially for 'normal' work/commute environs, is battery life at this point really an issue? Of course want/desire ongoing tech improvements.....but just wondering?

It's not false expectations, it's different priorities.

First, it's not that I'm incapable of charging my phone during the day, it's just that it's yet another thing to remember or risk being without music or other entertainment on the train home from work. My phone gets me through most days and usually I'll remember to top up, but I want my phone to have enough reserves for the days when I forget, or when I travel or when I'm otherwise active. I really do t want a phone that has its battery capacity modelled around my desk job.

Second, phones such as the Pixel 5 have shown that you can have amazing battery life in a reasonably compact and not too heavy form factor. I honestly don't care about a couple of millimetres more thickness for a few more hours of battery.
