What I want to know is, what is Apple’s strategy for the model names... will they keep the numbers until iPhone 20?

I was under the impression the new iPad Air's power button was larger, to accomodate the Touch ID sensor. Would this even fit on an iPhone?

If it does, I'd rather Apple just moved back to Touch ID, and dropped Face ID altogether. Touch ID has always been more reliable for me, and that was before Covid mask wearing. Plus, it would let them get rid of the notch.

Obviously it's all speculation but it seems likely this would be the line up. I've been waiting a long time for a high refresh rate iPhone, I'm sure Apple will make it great as some of the high refresh rate Android devices seem half baked or compromised in some respect, like trading resolution for refresh rate or just killing the battery life.

A VRR + HFR would be the perfect combination, throttle it down when not in use then immediately go to 120Hz.

I wonder how long it will be until we see Apple integrating their own modems into these devices. I'm tempted to hang onto my 6S for another year until these things arrive, it's been one hell of a device and is still going strong to this day.

I still wish Apple would move to an under the screen TouchID sensor, I'm still not sold on FaceID especially with all the mask wearing. Can't wait until we have nothing but screen on the front.

If this is true, Apple has truly lost their vision and seriously isn't innovating anymore.

If the iPhone 13 has the same design, then the iPhone design will basically not have changed since X, which means 4 years of the same old design for flagship products (iPhone 6-8 had same design, but iPhone 8 was not a flagship). WTF. Why can't Apple go back to 2-year design cycles?!?!?!?

And if a 2022 new iPhone has Touch ID, that will mean that Apple is using the same biometric tech for 9 YEARS. 9 YEARS. I'm sure if Steve Jobs was still here, Touch ID would have been vintage and the entire lineup would have long moved on to Face ID. For Face ID critics and naysayers, Steve Jobs would have fixed all the current Face ID flaws (like doesn't work flat on tables, doesn't work with masks etc) and made it leaps better.

Apple is just stagnating so badly now. But the sad truth is that Steve Jobs made Apple so far ahead that there's simply no competition and no alternatives now.

Touch ID may have been around for 9 years, but it’s an effective and reliable form of authentication, and this is basically Touch ID 3.0, so at least it’s an updated version. There is a sizeable minority of people who actually prefer it over Face ID, especially in the current pandemic. Also it allows Apple to sell iPhones at a lower cost like the SE models, as not everyone can afford or even want a £700+ Iphone let alone a £1000+ model.

What could you possible expect for a design change? Once a device goes full screen the only possible changes are either round or flat corners. Unless you have some kind of in-between where the are slightly rounded but with a little bit of a flat edge.
And what's wrong if Touch ID is still around after 9 years. It's a perfectly good alternative (or in addition to) to Face ID and in a world where people are wearing a mask its perfect.

4 - 5 year (or more) designs work for $45000 vehicles and nobody bats an eyelash. Phones are at a maturation point where they do not need radical redesigns every year.

If this is true, and it likely is, IMO the thing to do is avoid the pros this year, and sell your iPhone 12 or 12 mini for a 13 or even 13 Pro finally.

Jobs was far from perfect. He released an iPhone with a flawed antenna then tried to tell everyone that they were holding it wrong!

Touch ID is useless if you are wearing gloves. There are pros and cons to both technologies.Neither is perfect.

From the article...
Young says that the "most important development" on the iPhone 13 Pro models will be the adoption of 120Hz-capable ProMotion displays with variable refresh rates, accommodated by the adoption of LTPO display technology. After a range of mixed reports, rumors now seem to be largely in agreement that 120Hz displays will not come to the iPhone until 2021.

Hmm. Given that we're discussing rumours about the phone to be released around about October 2021 I'll be a bit disappointed if at least the Pro models don't have micro-LED screens which, if other rumours are true, will have already debuted on the 12.9" iPad in early 2021. As I understand it the "LTPO display technology" mentioned is not micro-LED and that the micro-LED technology Apple is rumoured to be adopting for the 12.9" iPad next year offers thinner display panels and even lower power consumption than an equivalent OLED screen.

I don't actually want my iPhone any thinner, it's the battery life that I care about, but a thinner display means more space left over for a fatter battery without needing to increase case thickness so as long as Apple don't go on another chase to get the iPhone as thin as possible then adopting micro-LED screen technology could deliver a nice double boost to battery life by reducing power consumption and allowing a bigger battery.
