Pfft. Why not make it work with a balaclava? Or even the ex-presidents masks from Point Break? Alternatively just act like normal humans and breathe fresh air.

Lately my iPhone XS has begun to *sometimes* open when I have a mask on, even to authorize Apple Pay. Intuitively I think it only happens when i unlocked it without the mask in the past few minutes, then put the mask on and entered a store to get something quickly. If more time passes it asks for the pin.

Can't say anything about foggy glasses, it's still summer here.

  1. People were also asked to wear masks during SARS.
  2. The virus is small, yes. But it is carried within water droplets.
  3. A proper mask stops the water droplets from passing through. A good cloth mask reduces the distance of travel of droplets. A bad cloth mask breaks down the droplet further and actually makes things worse.
  4. A surgical mask doesn’t affect your breathing as it doesn’t properly seal against your face.
  5. Therefore, the advice is to wear a surgical mask and another cloth mask on top of it. The former is to stop you from spreading, the latter is to reduce your inhalation of droplets from others.
It may reduce slightly the risk but where is the study that shows by how much? That is like saying, if you stay in home you reduce the risk of being run over by a car when you are outside. Or if you stop driving, you reduce the risk of running over somebody. This is a never ending argument and we already derailed the subject (sorry admins) but I personally refuse to be a part of bio-security world where I trade in my freedom for some illness i have already faced without a vaccine and without even paracetamol, and I am over 50 yo. Immune system is the most sophisticated thing in our bodies, after the brain.

Apple has had nearly two years of covid to add what some would argue is a must have feature in this new covid world we live in. Even if they haven’t perfected the under screen touch ID to their standards… they could have added an ID sensor on one of the side buttons like on the iPad air or upcoming ipad mini.

Power button ID is useless for those of us who wear gloves. When the pandemic is gone, winters will still happen.
You’d still have FaceID! They are not mutually exclusive. I’m in Canada, and I use my iPhone 8 Plus Touch ID button just fine, all year round, gloves and all. Having Face ID and Touch ID would be so simple.

there isnt a single rct showing mask mandates work. and plenty of evidence showing they dont

I hope they improve Face ID with masks. I’m not one of those people that’s going to be wearing masks for the rest of my life, but if I get sick or have a cold, I don’t wanna spread that to other people just because colds suck lol
This is very considerate of you ^^

Not sure who’s supposed to “relegate” and have “intentions” here.

The only thing that needs to be relegated to the dumpster of history is the virus itself and people that stubbornly helped the virus spread along the way.

Mask-wearing and other mitigations are not something you can negotiate with the virus (it doesn’t care about people’s feelings apparently) or just end because “it’s been too long”.

Good that Apple looked into a way to adapt to a masked world. Would have been dumb not to. Let’s hope it won’t be needed for much.
Yeah well you're being lied to but you're putting your head into the sand so deep just to not have it be true

People desperately trying to avoid the obvious facts that government and media are lying to them, keeping them in fear, so they can forever control them, and actually the depopulation has already started, these toxic injections are wreaking havoc in a way that flu variant never was able to.

Oh no, it can't be, it can't possibly be all of governments are lying, oh no, all countries agree, all media heads agree, it can't be, it can't be, well except they all are paid by the same people, all media companies are owned, all politicians are owned by the same people, who also happen to print all the money in the world, so it's easy for them

the game is so dumb, it's amazing anyone's falling for it, and a little sad. Apply the carrot and stick approach, pay for each convid death but don't pay for other deaths, well guess what convid deaths are going to skyrocket while the flu, a disease with the same symptoms, has disappeared.

The test is fake, the virus is weak but overblown in the media, and meanwhile they want us to fight each other so we don't turn against them.

Apple unfortunately owned bought and sold by the same money interests. Nothing's easier than taking over a publicly traded company. Especially when you're printing cash.

I have so far not been wearing any masks, and not ever planning to - masks are a submission ritual saying "I am a slave and I will shut my mouth". Masks cannot, never have, and never will protect anyone from airborne corona viruses, these particles are so small they ride on air and get everywhere through, in, around masks, in size comparisons a mask is like chicken wire fence to keep out the mozzies - it doesn't work, never has and never will.

I’ll just say that I don’t envy people in the position of dealing with this kind of nonsense from friends and family. It’s disheartening enough seeing (otherwise seemingly reasonable) strangers on forums fall for this.

This will no doubt be what’s on the iPhone 13, and they are debugging and tweaking the iOS before the release to the public, probably happened with the original iPhone X

Frankly, I STILL want to know how will Apple make Face ID work with me wearing a face mask. Will it require using the new Face ID sensor on the iPhone 13 models only?

“You’d still have FaceID!” Well, you are free to create your own hypothetical, but that was not the hypothetical I was responding to.

Why would this require new hardware? Wouldnt this just be a software enhancement to verify different facial points without the need for eyes and mouth?

The add-on is just a way to mass-test this system on iPhone 12 devices without handing literal iPhone 13 devices to beta testers within the company.
It will be built-in in the 13.
I must have been half asleep when I looked at the article. Thank you for explaining it without making me feel like a complete moron (like every other reply to my post on this thread has done.) You have done your good deed for today. Here is a gold star! ⭐

Doesn't work for me. How did you make it work?
So far I’ve managed to get mine working with a few different angles. I just kept trying to unlock my phone with the mask on, getting to where it forced me to put in my pin, and after a few weeks/months it started working.
