I'm just glad to hear Apple listening to the CUSTOMERS again, now that some Style-for-Style's-Sake, alleged Designers are gone. I REALLY like my finger unlock on the back of my Note, with settings for either hand, and couldn't really care less about the notch size.

Maybe they'll even up the battery to 'far-more-than-merely-adequate' for the projected life and average use.

Samsung has already Un-novated me into the Apple camp with their dropping so many features that used to differentiate them in a different AND BETTER way. I'd like to hear I'll be more than pleasantly surprised with my Apple replacement for a top-of-the-line Note.

each have their pros and cons but both together on the phone is welcomed news if in fact true

Absolutely. This gives consumers the option of having either or. Face ID obviously has its benefits, but it’s not convenient for every situation, therefore as a secondary alternative, we could use touch ID to unlock the phone or vice versa. If this rumor proves improve to be true, and then add 120 HZ displays, this is a stellar upgrade on many levels for consumers.

There’s something to be said about having a physical circle you can feel without looking at the phone, thats why i sent my iPhone 10 back and got an 8 as i can unlock it when I pick it up.
Maybe there’ll be some haptic jiggerpokery going on!

Android rushes Apple rumors to market. Unfortunately, the execution is almost always lacking. I'll take quality execution over first most days of the week.
rushing to be first to implement a tech is one thing, waiting years and be the last to implement a tech is another thing.

like the ridiculously slow adaptation or larger screens and OLED,widgets etc
Apple should stop this.

Yes wait for a tech to mature and be reliable but also don’t delay it too much.

Hopefully sooner than later with a bigger in-screen fingerprint sensor area plus get rid of the ugly notch.

Having Touch ID under the display seems like a pretty cool feature. But I just kinda like Face ID more than Touch ID.
Well, now everyone can be happy (assuming this comes to fruition) 👍 For me, Face ID often didn't work great (when I had an iPhone X...currently have 2020 SE with Touch ID only), but Touch ID never failed and is often more convenient depending on how you're using your phone.

Spoiler alert: you need neither Touch ID nor Face ID.

Inputting password or passcode is a terrible experience, though, since it requires taking your eyes away from what you were looking at and redirect towards your phone but longer. I'd take fingerprint and pattern as a backup since they don't require looking at phone.

That sure woulda been a nice feature this past year. I get that product lifecycle timing prevented its inclusion in the 12, but that would've gotten me over the edge to buy a 12.

Probably buying a 13 anyway as my XS is getting a bit long in the tooth but we shall see. It does what I need for the most part and the battery is showing 87% health.

I have to wear a mask all day, this would definitely cause me to upgrade to an iPhone 13. For now, the beta feature of unlocking with mask + apple watch helps a lot.

This would have big big news before they added the feature to unlock using your Apple Watch, now I'm not bothered.

The only remaining advantage the old TouchID has over FaceID for me is that with the TouchID button you can be unlocking the phones as it's moving from your pocket to your view, so it's already unlocked when you looks at it, because your thumb can find the button by feel. If new TouchID only works on a certain area of the screen (which all feels the same) this will be much harder to do.
That is, if it works 100% of the time, it doesn't, at least for me, about 50-50%

I've never been a believer in that statistic. My GF and her mom can unlock each other's phones with their faces. I've heard of other situations like this as well.

I do think they are quite good security options, but the 1:20,000,000 is just silly. There are quite a few YT videos showing just how easy it is to bypass. While the government would have a really hard time determining the passcode to get in your phone, getting in through FaceID is absolutely trival to them.

That may be the standard, but that doesn't mean that less isn't perfectly adequate.

To be honest I'd be happy with a 1:2,000 rate, maybe even less. It's still an absurdly remote chance that someone trying access to my phone would be that false positive.

When Face ID came out Apple was very quick to crap all over all finger print readers, including their own, with their 1:500,000 (Touch ID) to 1:10,000,000 (Face ID) false positive rate. They’re already done the damage themselves. They already have tried to sell Face ID as being 20x better than Touch ID.

Just curious, does this new feature on the watch just open the Iphone or can you log into sites just by unlocking the watch. For example, on bank apps that take Face ID to log in, can you do it by just opening the Watch? That's where I like Touch ID over face ID. It's more for logging into apps like Fidelity or Chase rather than just opening the phone.

I can't argue with that.. I have always felt like a beta tester using android but funny thing is I didn't buy a beta phone... Android may be fine for some people but not for me.. Face ID is great but with a mask not so much...
