Interested to see what you guys think.. picked up a SB 1 TB tonight and the new one is on the left, old on the right. My current phone is dim across the left side of the display and looks orange throughout, both at 0% brightness, but the new phone has a uniform green glow throughout. It reminds me of the 12 Pro Max.

I am leaning towards just keeping my phone, but they seem very close.

Which one is better?

beside compare the screen on those apps, try on the note app (light mode) or just white background with under 15% brightness.

which one show least red corner/red tint, keep that one

I compared both screens at all brightnesses in a dark room, in dark mode apps and in about:blank in Safari. New phone has a green tint at lower brightnesses but both look pretty much equal at >10%, aside from my old one having the obvious left tint/dimness. I can deal with some green tint at low brightness in exchange for a pretty much uniform display. The new one looks marginally more red than the old one on a full white screen. Looks like my replacement saga has come to an end!

After doing my testing, I plugged the new phone in and it has the elusive G9L screen... I know that the serial number thing has been debunked, but I do know that the L is more rare than the N and P. Just an interesting tidbit.

I keep comparing the screens of 13 PMs.
All pictures were taken with auto brightness off and True Tone off in a totally dark room.
Some are taken with 0% brightness and some at about 20% brightness.
I think the screens are quite uniform, but I’m not sure if one has a yellow/green tint or if it’s the other one that has a red tint (especially when looking at the white in the color test image).
The phones did not change positions during the test.
What do you think?

The one in Graphite seems abnormal to me. I’m not sure if it’s just me, but I can’t notice the dark green tint under a pitch black room but my eyes are more sensitive to the red tint under the same lighting condition.

The Graphite 13 PM I used to own had a similar cast to yours. I wonder if this issue is tied down to a specific model of the 13 Pro series.

That alarm clock screen test you’re conducting doesn’t show much for most the lower half of the display.

Download the attached save it to photos and view as full screen.

Got another iPhone 13 Pro Max now after returning/refunding the first one I got during launch week. I bought this completely new so none of that refurbished crap.

This one still has the same screen issue and it’s even less uniform than the first.

Absolutely unacceptable for a flagship phone of this price range. I’ll be returning this one too and hopefully third time’s the charm?

Edit: this second phone’s display protrudes ever so slightly more from the casing. I strictly remember it was flush in the first.

My 13 Pro Max also has this issues (3rd one so far). I am really tired of playing this lottery. I will replace it one more time and hope it’s the one! If it’s still faulty, I’ll just use the device until January (extended Christmas return period) and hope they stabilized their QC. A red tint is unacceptable .

My thought would be why not just keep the one you just picked up the SB one. If you purchased it on nov. 1, you do have till 1/8/2021 to return it. Apple has just begun the Extended return policy effective Nov. 1 through 12/25/2021. Just saying. Probably by the time, QC may have improved, who knows.

Personally, regardless of that green tint on the SB one you got, i think that one is good. But that’s your choice lol.

Why the logic makes sense, its a long shot to believe QC is going to improve in only two months. It might be it is just how these are and nothing will change. Demand is going to be strong well into the New Year though so at that point (for me at least) that is getting too far in the product cycle to care.

@SumYoungGai IMO the one on the left looks horrible but that is just my perception. That green hue bugs the crap out of me. Your view might be different though. The more I see these displays the more I think I may have lucked out with my last one unless these are coming across differently than seeing them in person. The range of quality (or lack there of) is just crazy this time around...more than I recall in the past.

I love the 120hz, but have noticed after a few days that the screen uniformity of my 13Pro is significantly worse than my outgoing 11Pro. This is especially evident at night with low brightness (say 10% or so). For example, in Apollo the left to right, green to red tint is extremely noticeable and irritating. I am going to return this unit but may wait a few weeks (months) for the factory to improve on this. Unless this is within tolerance for OLED displays and you have to just live with it, which would really suck since I'm not looking forward to playing the panel lotto.
Change that **** my friend asap!

I totally agree that the green is not great, BUT at least it is uniform green. My old phone is darker & very orange on the left at low brightnesses and that bothers me more. It's a matter of picking your poison ??‍♂️

My current phone was purchased before the extended period, so I have until this Friday to make a decision as to whether I want to keep it. If both were after Nov 1st I'd take my sweet time :)

To my understanding, we all should create some discussion on Apple communities in order to reach to their technical team faster. Just like, iPhone 12 Pro Max Green Tint issue, most of the people try to discuss in that forum

Yup I hear ya there....I give up on playing the game of returning/repurchasing. No sense in wasting more effort and time going place to place when nothing has changed to expect a different result. At least my bank will be happy all these charges and refund activity are going to stop LOL...honestly surprised they didn't flag for fraud with the same amounts posted over and over again.

Yep can’t stand green tint. Plus personally I normally test uniformity issues based on my usage. I’m not on the clock alarm screen often but I am on a white or black background.
My own favorite setting is True Tone off but nighshift on at slightly above min level.

I feel like that would fall on deaf ears. There is no way Apple internally doesn’t know about the declining quality control standards for their own OLED displays. This is kind of getting into conspiracies territory but I think they made QC less strict on purpose in order to meet the high demands and hoping people wouldn’t notice.

It’s like how they knew way back the iPhone 6 was less durable and more prone to bend than it’s predecessor.
