Hey, looks like the iPhone 13 Pro Max I received yesterday has this issue.

When looking at the screen square-on while viewing a web page (black text against white background), it's marginally whiter in the bottom half.

The top half looks marginally like I'm viewing it off-axis – a very, very slight yellow/greenish tint. I'm sure somebody like my wife wouldn't even notice even if I pointed it out to her, but I can see it.

My question to you all: Is this something I'm likely to get fixed via a replacement?

Lol. 🤣 Did you read all the posts from this thread like the rest of us ? What was your conclusion?

I did, but the other problems appeared to be more about colour tints rather an uneven illumination. So I wanted to get people's opinions. Hence a forum post. :)

Welcome to the OLED lottery. Seems there are issues with every display out there this year. You just have to pick your poison. Is it possible to find a uniform display when displaying a white background? Absolutely. Is it possible you’ll end up with another issue? Absolutely.

Thanks. This is what I feared before I even placed the order. Apple's factories churn these out as we head to the Xmas holiday. I suspect quality control is, ahem, pushed to the limit.

What concerns me most is that I didn't notice this yesterday, but did today — after charging overnight using a wireless charger, during which the phone got hot. I wonder if the heat has something to do with it bearing in mind the coil is right where the bright patch appears to be?

Either way it might all be moot because I'm pretty certain the OLED screen is giving me headaches (I switched from an iPhone 8).

If it bothers you just return it for a refund before the 2 week window ends, good luck trying to sort this out under AppleCare because they’ll give you refurbished devices which may still have the issue or some other issue, or swap the display panel but screw up the tolerance leaving a gap between the screen and the stainless steel casing.

I doubt it has anything to do with heat because I play a lot of games and my phone gets pretty hot after awhile, to the point where games start lagging. But I couldn’t see any difference in the display getting worse or better.

I’m pretty sure my issue is a mix of color tint AND uneven brightness distribution. Like it looks brighter especially towards the bottom of the display when you hold it in portrait.

The display of my iPhone is unevenly illuminated in such a way that I can perceive it with low brightness 0-5% with white content, e.g. Safari or Apple Support App or Facebook. In the last right quarter from top to bottom it becomes darker with a slight red tint. Had all OLED iPhones, sometimes yellow, sometimes not but I've never had anything like that ...

I'm trying to take another picture tomorrow. For this photo, I think night mode was active on my wife's iPhone 12PM. It may be that this has made the effect worse. I will also call Apple Support, I still have until January 8th to return the device.
Don't feel like an "N" serial number.

Apple Support will offer to replace with a refurbished device or repair it, and there’s no guarantee that the replacement screen is better. IIRC, after device repair = no option for full replacement either. Your best bet is to play the display lottery again by returning and buying a new one.

Apple support is awful, just go return it within the window and buy a new one and pray you win the quality control lotto.

This means practically I arrange the return and then have to reorder, wait and pay the purchase price again and wait until the first amount is credited to my credit card?

Doesn't Apple just work with a sum of money?

I’m not sure how they can facilitate an exchange any other way aside from Apple Care refurb device swaps. Even if they could exchange it and give you a brand new one in its proper retail packaging, that raises the question: “what happens to the return window? Does that get extended by another 2 weeks?”

You're absolutely right, I'll have to put another amount of money into circulation.
Hope that it brings something ??‍♂️.
Doesn't have to be perfect but without stripes, please ?
Update:
I just ordered a new one in Germany, delivery date is 7-14 December. I still have a little time to arrange for the return of my current one. Maybe I'll buy iPhone 13 Mini on Black Friday, then it won't be a problem to bridge the waiting time anyway.

guys but has anyone noticed a different increase in sound when the keyboard sound is on? it seems to rise and fall by itself sometimes

So it's a bug software for all' iPhone?....

Yep.

Yep.

apparently Apple doesn't want to fix it ... or maybe nobody keeps keyboard sound on ...

Don't get hung up on the serial number for the panel because it really has to do with where the panel is cut from the sheet. The panel that come from the middle are the better panels vs the end. My panel is G9P and it is really good, uniform and has no glaring tint issues. Others that have had the G9P have reported not being a great panel. So it is always hit or miss, unless you know where the panel came on the sheet.

If you are within your return window then don't bother with Apple Support because they will probably suggest just to return the phone. And I would not suggest getting the phone repaired because then you loose the return window opportunity.

My screen is beautiful 🤣 stupid Samsung makes yellow pink View attachment 1915424View attachment 1915427View attachment 1915431
It seems that there was just as many issues with the OLED panels on the iPhone X, that pretty much covers every year that Apple has used the OLED panels.

A short 12 page read. Riveting nonetheless. 😂
