Nah I’m good for now. ProMotion is what I really wanted. It was a good upgrade from the 11 Pro Max but iPhone 14 is just too experimental. I’ll give it another year to see how this eSIM thing plays out. They don’t do “S” years anymore but I think it’s clear this is a “tick” year and I’ll wait for the next “tock” like the 13 was.
I’m not impressed with Dynamic Island. In fact I’m kind of angry about it because they’ve essentially forked development and now rumors say they intend to fork it further.
i agree that this one seems like a 'tick' year in old money.

the iPhone X was originally planned for the following year but they pulled the release in: https://www.theverge.com/2017/11/1/...nal-plan-moved-up-schedule-fingerprint-sensor
the fact the 6/6S/7/8 all shared practically an identical chassis probably contributed to the above.
in that context, we still are following the tick/tock cycle: despite the fact we (again) didn't see any change to the chassis, dynamic island (which i won't argue is a daft name for it, but i think it's a really cool concept) is likely too big a change for a 'tock' year, especially when coupled with a 4 x hike to the main camera's megapixel count. the people coming from a 12 pro will likely be delighted not only by that but perhaps just as much by promotion.
personally, i'll also hold onto my 13 pro for (at least) another year (if not more: i got 4 years out of my iPhone X & it's streets ahead of that). i think what they've done with the notch is really interesting, but i can't justify the cost of an upgrade for it. my girlfriend, though, will be blown away coming from a 12 mini (which she loved aside from its battery life).
