I literally can’t even remember the last time I plugged my iPhone into a computer to transfer files. People still do that??
If anyone uses the 13 Pro to shoot videos in 4K 60fps and expect to edit a serious video out of the clips, then he/she/it may find both the USB 2.0 lightning connector (480Mbps) and AirDrop (~80Mbps) inadequate for large file transfers.

So...the faster the merrier.

Fair point, I didn't actually consider that. I personally don’t know many people who professionally edit iPhone videos on a daily for “serious” work, but I can see how it would be frustrating if you are in that minority:)

If they haven't fixed the flare on the cameras with this iteration then it's going to be another wait until they do. It will be another fail.
I know this is about 13 vs 14 and I am using a 12PM but the 12 also have this issue.
I was out last night and tried to record a movie over the harbor and the lights.
The flares was doing a really good job to ruin the video...
I don't know how common this issue are on other phones, but I hope it will soon be gone.

They destroy everyones videos. It's absolutely horrid. It's on every phone since the iPhone X and nothing has changed. they need to sort it ASAP or they will be slated again.

€1400 and this is not fixed

I have the 6S. A bit torn on whether to upgrade if there is no USB-C or to keep using my current iPhone another year.

For 99% of owners of the iPhone 13 Pro, the answer of whether or not they should upgrade to an iPhone 14 Pro based on the feature set is a resounding no. Perhaps a more interesting and useful article IMO would have been comparisons to older models.

However, if you have money to burn (or can write off the purchase cost) or have some other reason to upgrade from a 13 Pro, then knock yourself out.
I agree. I’m lucky enough to, within reason, be in the “have money to burn” category. Despite being totally disinterested in camera quality, 5G and processor performance I have upgraded almost every year since the iPhone X. Every year I’ve logged onto the launch event live broadcast thinking “nothing much of interest to me this year” but when they get to the battery life bit of the presentation and announce pretty significant year-on-year increases, about a 35% increase one year (from the Xs Max to the 11 Pro Max I think), I end up upgrading.

This year’s rumours suggest more efficient modem, 30% more efficient LPDDR 5 memory, presumably some efficiency improvements from the A16 SoC, a display that can refresh down to 1Hz for static content which I hope many apps e.g. ebook and news readers can take advantage of, and just maybe increased battery capacity although some rumours have contradicted that. Put all of that together and, even if the battery capacity stays about the same in the 14 Pro Max vs the 13 Pro Max, I am quite hopeful that this will be another year when Apple announces a year-on-year increase in battery life that is sufficiently enticing for me to upgrade again this year based solely on that improvement.

Headphone jacks don’t need to carry huge Pro Res video files through them

Good point.

I’d like to know What’s the data transfer speed of

1. lightning vs
2. usb-c vs
3. wifi 6E

I’ve had several lightning cables get “black terminals” caused by dirt or moisture. Usb-c might be bulky plausibly?

I’m kind of agreeing that it’s time for usb-c. Or maybe one more year? Already we have cable confusion around the house with 2 iPads using usb-c. I’ve spent prolly $800 on lightning and various charging crap in the last 5 years.

I feel like people who upgrade every year are just chasing the dragon at this point. The leaps were significant from model to model in the early years and upgrading was exciting. But now? Seriously? The upgrades are incremental and 99% of phone users don't even take advantage of the full computational power of the device. Not even close.

Upgrading every year is just an addiction at this point, which is fine if you're a techie. I get it. But articles like this are silly and a total waste of words. There's absolutely no compelling case for upgrading from the previous model year other than "I love tech and I just want the latest and greatest". That sums it up.

Yes of course. Latest and greatest is the hobby for me. I always look forward to trying the new model. Pass the old one down and enjoy the latest.

No thinking required for me - the new one is always better!

This promo was a product launch promo that lasted only few first months. What I vaguely remember is that in addition to Apple's limited time trade in credit, T-Mobile offered additional $500 via 30-month statement credit, bringing the iPhone 13 Pro 128GB price from $999 + tax to about $80 + tax. If you have Magenta Max plan, T-Mobile will offer up to $800 credit for trading in iPhones toward the new one every 24 months.
That's the catch...You'll have to pay off your iPhone 13 before you can trade it in. Still a pretty good deal, but most other people (like me) on AT&T got a great deal too, but the trade-in monthly credits are much larger which means we have to pay a lot more up-front to pay off the phone.

No interest in upgrading until they do their next mini. If they don't do a mini in the next 5-6 years, then I'll probably just get the smallest iPhone that they make.

Yea if you do 2Y, you have it all paid by then, so you can just trade it without paying off the installments. Since not too bad 1Y, since with VZW, they gave 800 instant and some installment credit to trade a 12PM for a 13PM. Only catch like you said is you need to pay the whole rest of the term instead of the discounted amount since you forfeit credits by upgrading early. Most likely will skip 14, so will have it all paid off when 15 comes.

I'd be perfectly content with usb 3.1 / 3.2 speeds through lightning. I have an iPad 10.5 and I believe that model has 3.0 speeds (I’ve noticed the transfer speeds are much faster than other lightning devices I’ve owned). But with the European mandating that devices require usb-c, it’s gonna happen eventually. Typically, if I do a video, it’s around 70 to 100 GB. Offloading that at usb 2.0 speeds is just a huge slog. To answer your question:
Lightning 480 Mbps
USB C 5 Gbps / 10 Gbps (depending on generation)
WiFi 6 600/1200 Mbps (depending on channel)

If you have a 13 Pro or 13 Pro Max, it doesn’t make sense to upgrade to the 14 Pro/14 Pro Max unless you’re one of those people who want others to see that you have the latest iPhone with the new pill and hole in the display. For an iPhone 12 Pro owner (like me) or 12 Pro Max owner, it begins to make more sense to upgrade with the ProMotion display and rear/front camera improvements. With satellite capabilities and possibly USB-C or at least faster lightning, it becomes almost essential to upgrade for 12/11 Pro users.

Look. If you're going to buy one asap, you love these articles. If not, of course they're annoying. To you.

I do wish they brought back the pacific blue. The hardest to get color, but I managed.

I didn’t get my order in for 10 minutes once it went live for the 12 Pro Max. I for sure thought I wouldn’t get a launch day delivery, but I made it through and still love my device as the same day I unboxed it. It’s sad to think about, but it’s time to move on to the 14 Pro Max and save my 12 Pro Max for a backup phone.

I think Samsung had it like this at some point before moving on to the single circle in the corner? I wonder if the awkward ! pill shape is Apples way to distinguish themselves from the competitors, just like the TouchID and Notch was / is.

Majority of the time I think they do want to distinguish themselves from the competition. As soon as someone see the notch or forehead they would know it’s an iPhone.

Were there an iPhone 14 Mini, I'd be there day one to upgrade my iPhone 12 Mini.

As it is now...nah. I've been spoiled by the smaller size.

Depending on the price drop for the 13 Mini and what T-Mobile is offering is trade-in though, I may upgrade to the iPhone 13 Mini.

Lots of us order the new one the minute they release it. I’ve done that every year I could do so. Prior to that I’d line up at the local “wireless age” dealer as if it was an Apple Store at 4am in my small city.

It’s not for any bling factor or bragging rights. It amounts to a sort of hobby

Yah. I’ll be content with whatever they offer. Sometimes there have been some decisions to make but I’ve never gone wrong going with the priciest model for myself. Even though I really liked the smaller size form factor iPhones too.

One thing - these 1TB iPhones mean you lose more money on resale. Whatever.

Most regular people seem to buy a pro max with the smallest storage! You can see that in the used market. I find that strange but it’s money related obviously.

It’s like if you go to United States shopping around for Mercedes S class I found out there’s a lot of Mercedes S class in United States that have been stripped down for features - I’m guessing it’s just so people can say they are driving an S class. In Canada they come loaded - A lot more loaded! Maybe it’s a different mentality for real. Materialism as a religion.

Not only do I agree, but my understanding is that even the 13 pro has the satellite capability hardware built in. And a change in notch isn’t something for 13 or even 12 owners to really concern over.
I actually don’t like the idea of the screen gap between the pin hole and pill being blacked out… feels reactive.
