I went from iPhone 11 Pro to 13 pro and I can tell a slight difference in weight but not much. The two things that I am finding I need to get use to are the flat sides and the camera bump. I prefer the rounded sides of the 11 pro. The camera bump is just giant. I am trying to learn to put my hands in different places because I find myself touching the bottom part of the camera a lot.

100% this^

Any difference in weight is not noticeable, but "blind pick up" of the phone and knowing the orientation is going to take some getting used to.

My pinky finger is programed(while not looking) to find the open bottom of the Apple Leather case and then knowing how to hold or pickup the phone so top is up and bottom is down. I noticed yesterday picking the 13 Pro up off the passenger seat while at a drive-through, the 100% edge coverage of the Apple Leather case made me pick it up completely upside-down.

No more PinkyProTouch TM

It will have to be that MASSIVE camera bump that helps identify the orientation that will then of course be covered in finger prints. All minor problems.

I used the same iPhone for six years (ha) so it’s weight was ingrained in my muscle memory.
I just got a newer model that’s the exact same dimensions but 1oz heavier.
5 US quarters (coins) weigh 1 oz and that doesn’t seem like much, but every time I pick up my new phone or carry it in my pocket, I immediately notice the heavier weight. It’s very obvious (but not what I’d describe as being heavy).

So a 1oz increase in weight will always be noticeable - but maybe not bothersome

A vote on the heavy side of 13 Pro. I have yet to send in my 12 Pro and when holding 12 P in left hand and 13 P in right hand, I feel like my right wrist is going to break!

I had no plan on upgrading this year since my iphone 11 is perfectly fine. However I realized today with Verizon that if I traded in my 11 they would give me an iphone 13 for free. This was pretty much a no brainer so both my wife and I did this deal.

With that said I could have gotten the 13 Pro for only $200. However I chose the regular 13 because of the weight. Although I love the new blue color the 13 Pro has along with a few other features such as the telephoto lens and higher refresh rate display, I already felt that my 11 was way too heavy as it is and the 13 Pro is even heavier. I am so happy the 13 I am getting is significantly lighter than my 11.

Are people that weak that they can’t hold onto a smart phone? Or do they hold it continuously? I find the phone just fine and solid. 💪 I to live in Florida and wear shorts and having the phone in my pocket doesn’t weigh me down.
I use my phone 40 to 45 hours per week according to the the Screen time feature so it seems like I have my phone in my hand a lot, and often for several hours straight. Having a light phone is a big plus, and a heavy phone a big burden for me.

If the weight of the Pro models was the same as the non pro models I would always buy the Pro model, but sadly that isn't the case. To me a significantly lighter weight phone is a bigger "feature" to me than other tech features.

Anyone else finding this iPhone extraordinarily heavy? Not sure if I should get used to it or return.

thought they’d be a thread on the weight! Reminds me of a brick!
Coming from the 8+ it does feel a bit like a brick and takes a bit to get used to. That’s why I got a magnetic wallet with a sleeve for fingers to make it a bit more comfortable to hold.

Why are all the choices just no? I love the phone heavier I’ve wanted it since the 6 era when phones were too thin and battery life was the worst, I love the 13 pro maxs battery life

I don’t know guys… two days into this and I’m actually considering returning the 13 Pro and going back to my iPhone X. The weight is really affecting my use case of the phone. I’m often in loose shorts at home and the phone is actually dragging them down to the point where it’s uncomfortable. The added weight also makes it less enjoyable to hold in general like in bed or on the couch. Additionally, the square edges and increased screen size from 5.8” to 6.1” just makes it less comfortable to use one handed. Picking up my iPhone X compared the the 13 Pro makes me really miss the nimbleness and lightweight of the X. The 120hz is nice but you get used to it so fast… the extra cameras are cool but I don’t know if it’s worth the bulk… I’ll give it another day or two but I’m leaning towards returning to my perfectly functioning X.

btw this is coming from a 28 year old who lifts 4 times a week…

I can live with it, but I preferred how the 12 Pro felt in my hand. Not willing to give up the new features though.

I think this encapsulates the argument. It's not about being unable lift the phone, but about having the right "feel" in the hand.

btw this is coming from a...older than 28 year old male who lifts himself off the couch a few times a day.

I'm strongly considering returning the iPhone 13 Pro as well. It actually feels heavier in my hand than the 12 Pro Max it was supposed to replace.

I can't help but think it has something to do with the distribution of weight inside the phone. Maybe the weight inside the phone isn't balanced or it's simply more concentrated.

Despite the weight, I thought the 120hz screen would be enough for me to keep it, but I don't even notice it any more after just a day. Probably because I don't play games or paint/draw, where that feature would excel.

Ok, so, experiment time! I have a large coin that is within a gram of the difference in weight between my SE 2020 and an iPhone 13 Pro. I’ve taped it to the back of my phone’s case. It’s not perfect: the weight would be more distributed on the larger phone. But hopefully I’ll get a good feel for handling and walking around with it.
If it’s any help at all, I've just weighed my SE2020 in its battery case and that weighs 249g. If you're familiar with that weight, the pro doesn't seem to bad, the former being heavier than the latter. That said, I'm in the same boat as you, the mini to me is the perfect size, but I'd like some of the photography options with the pro, but not sure if the over all size will bug me long term.

This is funny. For years people complained battery was not good for the sake of thinness. They hated it! Wanted a bigger battery and didn’t care about a little extra thickness.

Well, you got it! Now your complaining it’s heavier. Lol More battery and a thicker body doesn’t mean it stays light.

Pick your poison

That's the thing - people generally do not like to pick their poison. Whining about battery when the phone is lightweight and small (12/13 mini), whining about weight and ergonomics when they are given a larger device (Pro/ Pro Max).

If you want a light phone for jogging in pyjama shorts, get the mini. Big screen ‘PRO’ phone with big features and battery life isn’t as light as a feather? Shocker.

And you’d probably be complaining about why Apple doesn’t make their pro phones thicker & heavier for battery endurance if it was the other way round. Donkeys

Only valid argument is that they should use Aluminium on the Pro’s. Since most ppl prefer the aesthetics and it is extra weight that serves no function.

ps: Someone try balancing their 13 pro with their index finger on the rear Apple logo. Got a sneaking suspicion that these phones could be top heavy, which may explain some of the complaints.

Ok you people are retarded. Just realised my xs max is heavier than the 13 pro you are complaining about and I thought the xs max was a pretty light phone. If you want a light phone for jogging in pyjama shorts, get the mini ffs. Big screen ‘PRO’ phone with big features and battery life isn’t as light as a feather? Shocker.

What a nice and balanced post. Thank you for this sir.

Multi quote didn’t work. Wasn’t directed at thread generally, read my last paragraph which you didn’t quote lol. I’ll call you ‘donkeys’ instead alright

Balanced it on my thumb/finger like a basketball. Even. Doesn’t lean either way. Stays perfectly flat.

Coming from an 11 Pro Max. To me the 13 pro max feels clunky. The added weight, width and straight edges compared to the 11 make it feel awkward in my hand. It’s a very wide device compared to all other android phones as well. I am considering going back to my 11 pro max and hoping apple will do better next year.

When people were asking for a thicker phone with bigger battery, they were talking about the standard 4.7” iPhones at the time, so I don’t know why that point is being glossed over. I also don’t know why people are so offended and downright condescending by others saying get rid of the stainless steel. Nobody is checking for your phone like that. Nobody. If the SS is what’s making the phone unnecessarily heavy, then find an alternative. People already mentioned alternatives.

And just an FYI to the gym bros out there. Many of the buyers of the big phones have been women. We carry a lot of stuff with us, that’s not even including the small kids if you’re a mom, and many of us don’t own cars. Trust me we don’t need to go to the gym to lift.
