All sounds good apart from 'stronger MagSafe' - on that I think they really need to have a very long hard look about whether it's appropriate with the health warnings it has incurred since launch. 120Hz sounds like it will be a 'Pro' feature at least to begin with though, surely?

That’s what makes it very interesting to look forward to, isn’t it?

I’m guessing something very tight relation to how the camera software is going to work to enhance the tiny sensor photo result.
Similar to how night mode is using long exposure but can be done on hand held. This is only possible via smartphone computational photography that even doesn’t exist on DSLR / Mirrorless cameras.

And yes I agree, astrophotography is rather difficult to do even when using professional camera with manual shooting and on tripod.
Astrophotography is something that I’ve got into recently. Even a basic setup can cost £1000’s. My daughter got a small telescope for Christmas for about £150. Since then we’ve been experimenting with sticking an iPhone 12 (non pro) up against the eyepiece. Attached is a second attempt at the Orion Nebula. Nothing fancy, no stacking etc just a 3sec exposure and from light polluted urban skys. The results of the first attempt literally had her jumping up and down. It’s addictive and so far we don‘t really know what we are doing. There’s room for much improvement. Sure it’s a niche market but one that’ll get headlines.

120hz display - Meh. Just eat battery life so, na.

Always on display - I'll just turn off. Screen doesnt need to be on while in my pocket

Portrait mode videos - Dont care. wont use.

Under display fingerprint sensor - Only feature thats worth it.

No they don't. They go with "minimal and often late updates" bacause they know iPhone's will sell anyways.
The reason they sell so well is because they work properly, have the best battery life in the business, best chipset in the business, while the completion is overloading their phones with specs and huge batteries and still getting nowhere near to being as good as a iPhone.

The notion that the iPhone is indeed a phone becomes less and less with each release. In the good old days you would differentiate between a keypad type mobile phone and the nextgen phone was the word 'smart' aka smartphone. A phone that could take decent pictures, surf the web and play music. Now the telephone ability seams to take a backseat role. Always on display is useful, but give me a break, 'astrophotography' as a unique selling point? The industry needs a new name for these devices, one that supports all of the capabilities and not sell it as a mobile phone.
I don't think even the term pocket computer ecompases it all now.

All good and nice, but I will upgrade my 12 Mini only for a 13 Mini and nothing else.

Its wrong, with newer LTO display + adaptative feature (OS optimizations) it doesnt eat battery life
On S21 Ultra, its same battery life whether you use 120 hz or not
Considering its Android, Apple might optimize even better

Need USB-C, native please! That's the only thing I'm missing currently on my iDevices...

Sounds like a recipe for OLED burn-in...
Ironically, it isn't... Usually Always On Displays show information such as notifications, time, at a low brightness over black background. That means only very few pixels are lit and those at very low power. Aditionally, AOD usually shifts content around a little to avoid the same pixels being used all the time. (That's actually common practice on many OLED devices even if they are not AOD.)
I am more concerned about the idea of carrying a strong magnet in my pocket all of the time.
I am not sure I am looking forward to that (and nor are the magnetic strips on my credit cards).
Magnetic field doesn't affect the body (unless you have a pacemaker then I would be more careful) unless we are talking ridicolously strong fields at the brain (MRT) and CCs should hopefully lose the magstripe rather sooner than later. That's technology of the last millenium that has been obsolete in most parts of the world for at least a decade.

Wow that’s a phenomenal picture! I would be so happy to be able to take pictures like that! My daughter and I have not had much luck holding up her iPhone XS to the eyepiece of our telescope. It would be awesome to get the iPhone 13 with this feature!

Except for finger print sensor. I hope they make it on the lock button, like on the iPad Air 4, for better physical contact when unlocking the phone quickly without looking at the screen.
The lock button is often protected by a case. Even on an iPad. Not a good idea.

😅 most people only keep their phones 2-3 years. So it wouldn’t matter even tho each iPhone is becoming more and more future proof people will always want the latest and greatest of a device they use hours each day. Unlike a car.

astrophotography is interesting one as surely wouldn't it need a pericope type lens to provide good results for this? which I thought was coming in 2022.

Depend on what type of astrophotography that Apple is aiming for. Landscape astrophotography use ultrawide lenses to capture 70% of sky objects such as star dots and trails, combined with 30% foreground landscape.

Issue I have with the sensor on the lock/power button is that cases will need to expose the button.

Good point.

Didn’t think of that before 😕

And still has a better operating system and user experience than the completion. 😊😎

Android has been behind since the first iPhone was released and they’re still nowhere near to being as good as iOS.

No point rushing something when it’s not ready, apple releases features when they’re ready to be released properly. 😁

I agree with you on the iOS, but to your point of 'features,' I used to believe that too. I think it has more to do with Apple marketing by keeping us hungry for the next year's model. There's no excuse why 14.4 hasn't resolved all of the screen-freezes with certain Apple apps. The whole thing about Apple's feature refinement has gone to the wayside in recent years'.

I may get canceled for my next comment, but I had a pixel 5 sitting on my kitchen counter for a week unopened. I knew upfront the pixel was inferior, but I was sick and tired of paying the premium for my Apple gear and not receiving as much in return. I never opened the pixel, but I still run Nest devices in my home alongside my eight HomePods. Google Assistant is better than Siri for me and other Nest home accessories. Sure, the fidelity of my eight HomePods is better, but iOS still has bugs when using them.
Okay, let the poison pens fly.🤓

yeah battery life on 12 pro max should be the same with ltpo and 120hz as it is now ideally.

what is the advantage of always on display on a phone?
The fact that you don't have to lift up your phone to see notifications. Apple has been always a PITA when it comes to that (not even notification LEDs) and FaceID made the issue much worse... In the past you just had to put the thumb on the screen now you have to lift the entire device up.

Bought the MOFT wallet stand for my 12 mini just to solve this 😕.
The exact thing I miss from Touch ID.

A cheap iPhone mount helps a lot. We have one like this. Then you need a lot of patience. But kids love things like this as these days so much is media driven. There’s various types of astrophotography but just trying to do this I can see obvious ways of improvement. If the iPhone 13 had some of these features I’d buy it!

And before you start, I know... OLED... low power... Yada yada. It is just a joke.

When was the last time you swiped a credit card? Serious question here. I have not seen a credit card swiped in at least 5 years.
