Can we just get the hourly forecast on the lock screen? For heaven's sake, its 2021 and I have to unlock my phone just to check the temperature. I hope they acquired Dark Sky for a good reason.

Seems that a lot of this information would be more useful when consumed from an Apple Watch (where you just need to raise your wrist to your face), rather than having to take out your phone each and every time.

Always On Display - finally I can try an iPhone after like 10 years since I switched from the 3GS to Samsung Galaxy.

Apple is still inviting people to compulsively check their phones every few minutes instead of just displaying useful information which you can see even if your phone is like 2 meters away from you.

Also - the fingerprint sensor. Customers are so lucky that the pandemic forced Apple to add a fingerprint sensor back into their phones ! Yet another reason I couldn't try an iPhone in the last few years.

All in all - the iPhone 13 looks to finally mark the time when I can switch between Android and Apple without any severe limitations. I have my eyes on the iPhone 13 Mini.
They haven’t added TouchID to their phones. Although certainly welcomed and I hope that rumor does come true. Their iOS 14.5 workaround, which does require the user to have a newer Apple Watch on watchOS 7.3 has a really convenient workaround by allowing Apple Watch to unlock your phone. It works every time and has proven to be very handy already, but TouchID is an even better solution. Masks aren’t going anywhere for a couple years I imagine.

So, can we asume that al iPhone 12S (or 13) lineup will have LTPO displays and Alway-on? For some time I was afraid this was only a Pro feature but it didn’t make sense.

120hz display - 18 months behind the competition.

Always on display - 5 years behind the competition

Portrait mode videos - 2 years behind the competition

Under display finger print sensor - 3 years behind the competition

And yet Apple is selling, on the average, roughly 600,000 premium-priced iPhones per day. Few care about the above.

I am so excited about the AOD, Finally catching up to Android in another category. I have wanted this feature personally for years, I am really excited about this.
Now if only Android cared about customers enough to issue timely upgrades to their phone OS as usefully and long as iOS?

Oh, right, 'Android' is an OS used by companies that treat past customers as liabilities, not potential repeat customers.

Sounds like a recipe for OLED burn-in...
Windows Phone did this a decade ago, and they would shift the icons and click around on the screen so that it was never in the same place for more than a minute.

They also lit the pixels super dim. It was readable on a black background, but not bright, thus saving battery and also helping to preventing burn-in.

On a watch AOD, yeah logical and sensible.

On a phone, why?
To please all the people who have "Android Envy" of marginally useful features?

I plan to exchange all my Samsung 'innovation' to iPhone continuous improvement, especially in light of the continued UNNOVATION of Samsung and their attitude towards OS upgrades and continued customer support.

That comes from experience in a family with both OSs in the mix for phones, and the continued uninspiring Android tablet market, not to mention the entire Apple ecosystem.

Astrophotography...
I'm actually very intrigued by this! Maybe not the iPhone 13 because my XS Max is still going strong, but I might very well get whatever comes out in 2022.

Why does this new IPhone keep on being referred to as the “13” rather than the “12s”, which seems much more logical IMHO given the past naming convention of IPhones.

Your perspective - two decades behind a trillion dollar company.

Apple rarely cares to be first. Apple cares about quality. To do things best, or at least far better.

There was an MP3 player in 1997. iPod came out in 2001. Four years!!!! Which still has a lineage into the modern era?

When Apple does do things first (remove CD drive, remove audio jack port, remove extraneous laptop ports), people just bitch. How far behind are other companies on these things?

Honestly, not too far behind (look at Samsung ditching the power brick), because all they do is copy to ride Apple’s coattails. Apple rarely copies. If they do, at least they do it better than what they copied.

You forget that Apple plays by the best rule in growth: they compete only with themselves.

Lastly, as someone who objectively loves Apple products and criticizes their missteps at the same time (MobileMe!), I just buy what I want and need and don’t care what “the competition” is up to. So when Apple releases something, that’s when it’s available. And it’s generally a great experience. 🤷🏼‍♂️
